[AOO 3.4 Test Plan Discussion]Overview
Hi all, I think it's time for use to discuss and detail AOO 3.4 test plan now. Basically at current time I suggest: 1. Leverage OpenOffice users on General Usage test 2. Focus on establishing automation mechanism. Start from Build Verification Testing(BVT in short). 3. Focus on test infrastructure set up. Start from case management tool. For 3.4, place the test cases on wiki and volunteer can do general testing against. If volunteer couldn't write cases, may give the test scope he would do. For example, which component etc. And then report defects in Apache Bugzilla. 4. Focus on Performance Verification Testing(PVT in short) investigation, and setup benchmark PVT environment. 5. Establish QA entry in AOO wiki https://cwiki.apache.org/ 6. Build private build before official build is ready 7. Platform will be covered - Windows XP - Win7 32bit/64bit - Where we only have a 32bit windows version, it should run against 62bit windows version. - Redhat 6 32 bit/64 bit - Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit/64 bit - Mac 10.7 - Mac 10.6.x - FreeBSD 9.0/8.2 (9.0 is suppose to release at 12/07/2011?) - OS2 Welcome your comments.

Yes, I agree our focus would be Linux, Windows and Mac. 2) Volunteers, based on their interests, will determine which platforms are officially supported in releases. 3) Platforms that do not have enough volunteers to complete the test plan would not have official Apache releases. Or if we had releases, they would be called experimental or some other name to indicate that they were not fully tested. Yes. For FreeBSD, OS2 Port or Solaris, if OpenOffice users would like contribute their effort on these platforms it is appreciated. But these platforms without enough volunteers to complete the test plan would not have offical Apache release. 4) Of course, anyone is welcome to take our official source releases and make a build on another platform and distribute it. But these would not be official Apache releases. Totally agree. -Rob Welcome your comments.

Yes, it would be very nice to get Oracle to include all the TCM test cases (that were assumed to be proprietary, even though in most cases they had been translated by the native-lang communities) in the SGA, or to provide them to the community in some form. The TCM platform itself can probably be replaced, but having the test cases database available would drastically reduce the effort needed for building a QA platform. Yes, TCM platform can be replaced but it maybe another topic, we need know if Apache can host the TCM server though I am planing using open source case management tool for AOO testing. Re: Updated Release QA Plan and AOO 3.4 Test Plan
Nakata, See my comments. 2012/1/11, Maho NAKATA m...@apache.org: Hi Just a comment, can we use testtools for QA? If we can use testtools for regression testing, it will be much helpful. But the problem is not only it can't run now, I even run VCL testtools before but seems the testing reports are not easy to analyse. Now we have QA volunteer working on Java lib to automate test cases, first begin from build verification test. Re: Proposal for AOO test tool
I give 1+ for test tools usage for AOO 4.0 based on below points: 1. For community product, we don't know if same resoruce will be there for next release. 2. We sould follow the strategy that automtic more and more test cases, but for these automated test cases, as one experienced QA who have worked on this area for nearly 10 years, many automatic test cases comes from manual test cases, that is, bettter structuring the cases first and selecting some to automatic, considering that not all of cases can be automaticed. 3. Form quality view, it's better have one tool to track QA effort. But one easy and simple to maintance testing tool should be proposed. Besides, Rob's transfering bugzilla issues to test cases is one good idea. 2012/2/14 Rob Weir robw...@apache.org On Mon, Feb 13, 2012 at 6:55 AM, Ji Yan yanji...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all, Recently, I'm thinking about how testing work should be done and what the procedure should followed under Apache OO structure. Before OO goes into ASF, testing work was controlled by QUASTe and manual test cases stored in TCM but both tools were disconnected once Oracle donated OO to Apache. Now, it's time for us to think about how can we move on for testing. While within AOO 3.4, we store the manual scripts in wiki page, it's good place at this time, but should not be permanent. As it's hard to tell test status and collect testing data, also it has no connection with automation test tool. I wonder if Bugzilla would be better than the wiki? We could create a product in BZ for all test cases, with components under that for different test areas, like performance test, smoke test, detailed test, etc. One BZ issue per test case. For each test pass, we simply reset each test case/issue back to New state. We then test each issue. If the test case passes, then we mark the BZ issue as closed. If the test case fails, then we already have a BZ issue for the developers. Pro: Makes it very easy to make new test cases from existing BZ issues, or to make BZ issues from testcases. Con: Reporting not so good. Does not handle doing multiple test passes in parallel. For example, if we wanted to test AOO 4.0 in parallel with a maintenance AOO 3.4.1 release. After review some tools, I find the Test Link[1], maybe the proper tool for us to manage testing work. If anyone has any suggestion on other tools, please let me know. The target is to customize and deploy it to OO website. I'll move forward with this tool with no objection [1] http://testlink.sourceforge.net/docs/testLink.php -- I tried their demo site. It was very slow. Does anyone have experience with Test Link? The above link should be only one sample. The performance depends on the where to host it and the network speed. I care more about even TestLink is one good tool to community to use, is it possible ASF host it? -Rob Thanks Best Regards, Yan Ji

Jean, Please count me. I'd like to take the chart part, draw and impress improvement part. Thanks. Best Regards, Lily Zhao 2012/2/15 Jean Weber jeanwe...@gmail.com Is anyone interested in working on a Getting Started with Apache OpenOffice 3.4 book and/or user guides for Writer or other components? Release notes are available [1], though possibly incomplete, and the software (developers' builds) is working, so it's probably not a waste of time to start updating books now. Some screenshots will have to wait, because the program installs as ooo-dev, but most screenshots don't show the program name so that's not a big problem. I suggest using as the starting point the OOo3.3 book -- or parts of the LO book if new features are also in there and already written about. Re: [BUG]AOO in Asia Language word's counts calculate is wrong
No detail test case for AOO 3.4, all the test cases are wroten based on component, feature and give some short description. For this scenario, it is about Asian languages words count, the words count feature is one feature of Writer, so you may add test case as below: Component: Writer Feature: Word Count Test Case: This is to test the word counts in Asian langauge. Launch Writer and input some Asian languages words, select Tools-Word Count to verify if the result is correct. Sample Files Collection for AOO testing
Hi all, Recently I am working on sample files collection and category. These sample files would be used for AOO 3.4 and further AOO release testing. These sample files are major for compatibility, which covers the interoperabilty with MS office 2003, MS office 2007/2010 and previous OpenOffice release. Re: Suggest to disable Edit File button on toolbar in some cases
Li Feng, I guess your step 2 means Edit File on toolbar. Also I don't understand Disable you talked about here? Do you means Grey that button? Just like when user create one calc document? This button on toolbar is used to give user flexiability to edit or read-only the document though no password to proctect this document. Disabling it may hurt the user flexiability, considering the scenario that when one user do some modification and save and then he just want to view this document. In this case, he can disable the edit function by clicking Edit File on toolbar in case during his navigation he may give some mistype input. This is just my thoughts, this is one user experience issue and everyones's feedback. Best Regards, Lily 2012/2/22 lifeng wang phoenix.wan...@gmail.com Hi all, Recently, I try to test File Sharing Password and Edit File, that is edit control of security. But I found “Edit File” button on toolbar is enable nearly all the time, beside new document. Therefore, User may click more than one time, Then file will switch from read-only to normal frequently. And this will raise many unnecessary scenarios. I already open 2 defects about this . i118937,i118930. From the point of friendly, there will be more. I suggest to simplify. For example, Enable “Edit File” button only when open file with File Sharing Password. Disable it after input edit password. Thanks!

AOO 3.4 QA Weekly Status Report As of 2012/2/22(2012/2/15~2012/2/22)
Hello everyone! This is Lily (Xia Zhao) in Beijing. I've been working on QA for AOO 3.4. I will give a weekly report on the quality of the 3.4 Apache OpenOffice. Not everyone watches 100% of BZ notifications. A report is a good way to know the status. *AOO 3.4 Overall QA Status: *Based on the test plan: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Release-QA-Plan 55% IP clearance testing have been done. These are the tests of areas most impacted by removed/replaced modules due to IP clearance. 70% general testing have been done. These are general functional tests. *AOO 3.4 QA Weekly Status Report as of 2012/2/22 (2012/2/15 - 2012/2/22): *Test build: dev snapshot builds: Rev. 1240836,1240872,1243392 Test Platforms: Windows XP SP3, Mac 10.6.8, Ubuntu 10.04, Redhat 6.1 Test Cases Executed: 6 modules of IP clearance ooo_crystal_images-1.tar.gz ooo_oxygen_images-2009-06-17 3rd party/external library javamail 3rd party/external library gdk-pixbuf libneon removement testing berkeleydb 5 function areas of General testing: Installer (Clean/Upgrade) Security Toolbar Chart (still 60% left) Writer Envelope *Defects Summary: *So far 282 defects raised against 3.4beta, AOO dev and 3.4m0 Among them, 44 critical defects raised and 23 ones remain opening now. 21 defects raised in this week, and 4 defects closed. So far based on my observation and my testing, no much special platform problems. Though some bugs are makred with specifical platform but I need double check if it is due to reporter only has that platform build or it did only reproduced on given platform. Currently most bugs about core functions, undo/redo is one weak area, also the stability is one potential problem. Next week we plan do more interoperability testing and more stability general testing, suppose more defects may be raised. *Risk: *The high risk for AOO 3.4 is during the migration from OO to AOO, many test cases lost and no one large automation suite can be used for regression testing now. So I did appreciate everyone's contribution to QA works. If you have interesting in QA work and decide to contribute to it, please go to AOO 3.4 main page: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA. Get dev build from: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+Unofficial+Developer+Snapshots Write your case by edit this page: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/TestCases/ And place your result: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/TestResults Or you may just do general testing based on your usage without test cases or testing result and just raise defects in Bugzilla directly: https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ Any contribution is welcome and can contribute to this project's success! ThanksBest Regrads, Lily

We can contribute the original testing sample files first with legal approval and then double check with legal if we can contribute IBM files and 3rd party files for coumunity testing. Maybe start with a directory listing and send the listing to ooo-dev. It would be good to understand the scope of the documents and the directory structure. Then we could work with smaller patches, maybe at the sub-tree level, so they are no more than 200 MB for each patch. Also, where did these come from? Are these all your original files? Bugs can be proposed as showstopper by setting this flag to ? and starting a discussion on the mailing list. Based on the discussion we will decide if it becomes a real showstopper + or not -. The release manager in the end will decide it when we don't find consensus. I with the hat (currently) of the release manager will not decide anything without listening to all of you. In the future we should try to cleanup the bugtracker more and more. I would remove components to simply reduce the number and make it easier to report bugs. The versions should be cleaned up. Herbert mentioned that future versions of bugzilla will allow to deprecate versions. Sometimes I wish we could start with fresh clean bugzilla ;-) Juergen Juergen

Is there any Bugzilla admin who can help setup normal group to view public queryies
I created several queries for AOO 3.4 and hope anybody can view these queries and run the results. But when I tried to share my search result(query) to group, I only can find canconfirm, qa-users,canedit groups. People who are not in these groups can't view these queries. Can any Bugzilla admin can help setup one normal group, I means the ones who can create bug in Bugzilla, to view these public queries? Thanks a lot! Best Regards, Lily
Propose AOO 3.4 Release blockers
Hi all, As some of you may have awaren, I am Lily in Beijing and be working as QA for AOO 3.4 release. Based on the our testing against AOO 3.4 and the issues review in Bugzilla, I think it's time for us to propose AOO 3.4 release blcoker now. Till today 291 bugs reported against AOO 3.4 dev, AOO 3.4beta and AOO 3.4m0. Among of them,44 critical bugs and 21 ones remain opening. I check these 21 ones and propose below as AOO 3.4 release blockers: *Bug 118823* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118823 - Cannot start the installed OOo-Dev_OOO340m1_Win_x86_install_de.exe on Win7 Propose Reason: This bug fail the AOO 3.4 installation on Win7 and must be fixed before ship. Besides, it is AOO 3.4 regression. *Bug 118881* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118881 - Animation not rendering properly in Impress (Build OOo340m1 for Windows) Propose Reason: Animiation for text is very common senario for Impress users and this function fail will dispoint lots of Impress users. Also, this is AOO 3.4 regression issue. *Bug 118846* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118846 - ODBC connection crash AOO Propose Reason: Common scenario, stablity issue. AOO 3.4 regression. *Bug 118914* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118914 - Upgrade package missing Propose Reason: This issue will cause AOO 3.4 fail to upgrade on Linux. AOO 3.4 regression as well. Besides, I propose 118979 and 118895 as 3.4 blocker candidates. One is for on-help and one is for localization, it depends on which documentation and localization quality we agree to publish AOO 3.4. *Bug 118979* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118979 - No help for color sheet function *Bug 118895* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118895 - aoo3.4 r1240836: some contextmenu entries are not localized Welcome your comments. Besides, seems the quality on Windows is weak than that on inux. But the stability can give us much confidience, the unproduced crash is less occur against latest AOO 3.4 build though we did have some reproducable crash in bug pool. *Risk:* The high risk for AOO 3.4 is during the migration from OO to AOO, many test cases lost and no one large automation suite can be used for regression testing now. Re: [RELEASE]: Bug 118914 - Upgrade package missing
Hi Ariel, I reported that problem, yes, the upgrade package is used for old OOo to upgrade linux package. Now it is missing in AOO 3.4 linux package. My concerns are: 1. AOO 3.4 is the first release for AOO project, we can statement it, but I don't think OOo users would buy in it. As one old OOo user, I prefer upgrade to AOO 3.4 directly. 2. Even we say AOO 3.4 i the first release, the easy upgrade mechanism should be provided now for further AOO release. There is several linux packages, now I can upgrade from OOo 3.3.0 to AOO 3.4 directly by upgrade package one by one. With upgrade shell scripts offered in old OOo, I can upgrade my linux package easily. And I hope this issue can be resolved in AOO 3.4. Thanks. I wonder whether the fact that the upgrade server is down could be currently masking the issue? It regularly failed when the old OOo Upgrade server refused to make a connection, which may have been a factor. I need to stress that the problem only arose after Win7 SP1 was installed; the presence of IE9 on Win7 is sufficient to cause the problem. I'm just trying to find a plausible cause that fits the observed facts: 1) Bug reported before with Windows 7 SP1 and IE9 2) Bug goes away when you disable OOo's automatic updates 2) But bug is not observed in current testing, not in Lily's testing with Windows 7, or with Ross's use. 3) Update server was once working, but is not working now So two plausible theories that are worth testing: A) Bug actually exists in AOO today, but no one is testing with SP1 and IE 9 installed We tested AOO 3.4 latest dev snap shot build Rev 1299571 with Windows 7 SP1 with IE 9 installed, but couldn't reproduce it. Is there any plan to handle it or at least to double check the save process? Currently, not that I know. For the record: usually after a power loss, the opened file is wrecked and no data is recoverable. In very rare cases (I've seen it twice IIRC), user is able to recover the last version from the temporary files. I even remeber I lost a lof of work myself and I never complained to Microsoft, who does not care (imho). This isssue looks like a true issue, but a one extremely difficult to reproduce. There are really a lot of possible reasons to turn something readable into , like a simple 1 bit offset somewhere in the datas, or some unneeded address incrementation in some loop, including bad things with the file system (somewhere in sal or more complicated). I think you understand things are awfully complicated to track. Until we find a track, the most important is to collect as much of datas as possible. There is certainly one common denominator for a big part of those issues imho, but the area of investigations is enormous. Of course, I don't have a solution, and only common work could help. To make progress, we could define a strategy when one new issue is detected, e.g. : - create a meta-issue (I'll let other people propose a name) - propose a process to collect datas, and what do if ever such issue occurs (like not power off the computer, or provide us a previous version of the damaged document if possible .. and so on) - explain the users the difficulty to reproduce, and the analyze needs more information than other issues, so we need to collect a lot before to imagine a root and solve it - cross the issues with other OpenOffice.org derivatives could help : I'll ask on our lists, to know whether the problem occured with OOo4Kids too. - (please propose other ideas) I agree collecting datas is one good way, is there any log when recovery fail or data lost? Meanwhile, can someone do save, recovery logic analysis? Such as cold walkthrough etc? From QA view, I will add this scenario, power lost, long run etc to AOO 3.4 scope to see if something can catch. Lily NB: not sure if LibO has inherited this problem too but I guess so according to a quick Google search: http://www.mail-archive.com/** libreoffice-bugs@lists.**freedesktop.org/msg19017.htmlhttp://www.mail-archive.com/libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org/msg19017.html I think you should keep an eye on this side, but I bet this is the case too. Of course the bug is not reproducible, it happens on several OS, with different versions but has appeared clearly end of 2008. More the date is precise, more it will help : there is probably some history somewhere, and a list of cws introduced in meantime could help to isolate a good candidate for the (possible) bug or regression. Please remember that this bug is very detrimental to the product reputation, leading to a loss of confidence in the code. Yes, but we should not exagerate either. Know data loss is possible, is true. This is a serious, but very seldom issue : we can create, use files without lose something most of the time. I'd even bet people lose more often their datas on windows because of viruses, trojan, whatever than with OOo. Last but not least the code is open, what is something really good in this case. Especially for a very basic feature. Facing say a power loss is not usual but the original file should not be processed until the new file is correctly written (or its temporary version should at least be available for recovery). Propose AOO 3.4 RC Build Test Plan
Hi all, As AOO 3.4 RC build is nearly ready, I propose AOO 3.4 RC build test plan here. 1. Installer testing Focus on installation testing on below major platforms: -Windows 7 64/32 bit -Windows Vista 64/32 bit -Windows XP SP2 -RedHat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) 64 bit/32 bit -Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit/32 bit -Mac OS 10.7(Lion) -Mac OS 10.6.x -Mac 10.5 Additional Platform are suggested: -FreeBSD 9.0/8.2 -OS/2 -Solaris x86 10 2. Extension testing Volunteers can get the extension list from: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/ (??) -Directory -Extensions based on OOo (Verify they still works with IP clearance work done in AOO 3.40 -Extensions based on AOO (View by Most Recent category on extension page) 3. Basic Interoperability Testing The test scenarios cover: -Load -Save -Reopen And the interoperability cover both compatibility with MS office 2003/MS office 2010 and old OOo versions. 4. General testing Do free testing on AOO six components, Math, Base, Draw, Impress, Writer, Calc for three days. 5. Globalization and Translation testing If other languages build are offered as RC builds(seems we will only have English only RC build for AOO 3.4), quick globalization and translation testing will be done. Which include: - Check the UI - Switch locale and check some culture related functions, such as currency, date, formula etc. The above testing are supposed to be done during 1 week and during this week, if no critical issues are reported, we can say the RC build is ready to ship based on vote. I placed this plan here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+RC+Build+Test+Plan Lily

Dennis, Yes, I agree with you that still some sites offering ISO image about Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 and still many users may work on these platforms. But aware except for the two platforms, there are still some other platforms not listed in this test plan. There are many sites that offer the ISO image, though. I had a free copy that I never installed and I figure I must have discarded it in the last year while moving CD-ROMs around my office. But no, I still have it. Of course, it is the original release. It's copyright 1985-1999. Re: Layout problems revising OOo doc using OOo3.4
Jean, 2012/3/24 Jean Weber jeanwe...@gmail.com I'm encountering irritating layout problems while revising legacy OpenOffice.org documents using the latest developer build from Apache OpenOffice. Same file works in LibreOffice 3.4.6 with no problems. Here are two of the issues I'm encountering (may be others that I don't recall right now). * Random images become invisible, though still in the file; tweaking the frame size makes them visible again. This problem is known problem as I know, I encountered it very randomly. You may check below two issues to see if they simliar with the problem what you encountered. https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118725 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119037 * Resizing a frame to a smaller vertical dimension does not cause the following text to move up to fill the space, as it should. However, after I close the document and reopen it, the text has moved up. Which AOO 3.4 dev snap shot you are using? I tested your sceanrios against r1299571http://people.apache.org/%7Eydario/packages/r1299571/os2/OOo_3.4.0_os2gcci_langpack-arc_de.zipon Windows XP SP2 and Mac 10.7. Both couldn't reproduce the issue you have. From the description, it seems more like one refresh problem. Mac OS X 10.7.3. Haven't tried on other platforms. --Jean

If we count the defects from 1th Aug. of last year, it means the about date we call AOO 3.4, the total defects number is 294. Among the 383 defects, 53 critical defects raised and 18 ones remain opening now. Based on previous testing and my daily usage on AOO 3.4, so far we can say that: The stability is ok. The interoperability with MS Office seems fine. The basic functions work fine. The extension is one weak area. Besides, the accessibility, globalizaiton may have some problems. The general testing in community focus on installability, basic fucntions, interoperability, extension etc. Also some old OOs term also exist on web site, dialog etc. We need confirm when these string replacement will occurs. *Risk:* The high risk for AOO 3.4 is during the migration from OO to AOO, many test cases lost and no one large automation suite can be used for regression testing now. So again I appreciate and thakns for everyone's contribution to QA works. Besides, I created entry for project reporting on below wiki: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Project+Reporting Uner it, you can get detail AOO 3.4 QA weekly status reports from this page: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+QA+Status+Report *Now more and more QA peoples are involved in AOO projects and it gives me not only the confidence to verify the quality of AOO 3.4, but more about contributing to AOO quality.* Best Regards, Lily

I give +1 for Juergen here, this issue is critical but I don't think it is critical enough to block AOO 3.4 ship from QA view, for one software, one new release may has some difference with previous release, even for the same feature. I don't think this issue locates at changing the default setting back for 3.4 or not, the point is which encryption algorithm is more polular and buy in by users. But I agree offering user more flexibility by modifying the configuration file etc is one good idea. Lily For 3.4 we provide a mini extension that switch the default back to AES for users who prefer this encryption algorithm. Please, and asking only for myself, if you know of a linux distro using a derivative of Apache OpenOffice do name it - if you mean LibreOffice, please stop calling it a derivative - it is not a valid reflection of the facts, if you are referring to the former package OpenOffice.org then please refer to it by its legal name. [Propose RC Build Blocker]Bug 119162 - two copies of ooobasis packages after upgrade from oo3.3 to 3.4 on Suse 11 SP1 and soffice will crash after open a file
Hi all, I propose 119162 as release blocker. On Suse 11 SP1, after upgrade from OO0 3.3 to AOO 3.4, crash occurs. On Ubuntu 10.04, after upgrader, couldn't launch AOO. It means we have big upgrade problem on Linux platform. So should be taken as release blocker. *Bug 119162* https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119162 - two copies of ooobasis packages after upgrade from oo3.3 to 3.4 on Suse 11 SP1 and soffice will crash after open a file Best Regards, Lily

Is there a reason why the page should mix together copyright statements on the website as well as license statements on the releases? Especially since this link appears on every page, it is confusing. Yes, we are still distributing the legacy code. That is not a very good reason, IMHO. I think we should put the legacy license prominent on the legacy download page. But I don't see why it should be in the footer of *every* openoffice.org web page. If it were up to me I'd have the site copyright statement only here, and put the release license link on the download pages only. The download page links to the license page. Maybe we need two license pages. At least three, I think: 1) legacy LPGL for where we offer downloads of the legacy release 2) ALv2 for where we offer downloads of the new Apache releases 3) A site copyright/license page on all pages, explaining the copyright on the website contents itself. But I think it makes zero sense to have page that are not dealing with releases at all have a link that talks confusingly about the license on releases. Remember, through the magic of Google, a user could end up entering any random page on the website, to find the answer to their questions. +1. Make links in the appropriate places. (1) is linked from downloads. (2) is linked from where? (3) is linked from template/footer.html - The site license should have the current /license.html url. - Split the current page in two new pages - legacy_license.html and package_license.html - Edit license.html into the site license file. Yes, this is one good and easy way to resolve these kinds of license problems on pages. Go ahead and make it so. Regards, Dave -Rob Regards, Dave -Rob Cheers, Pedro.

I agree that the issue is not nice and also happended in earlier versions, at least the desktop integration part. The extension problem can be related to the changes we made in the extension manager... I assume it will take some time to find a good solution. Re: Bundled extensions
Felka, This should be old problem, another volunteer report the similar problem as well though I didn't catch it when I install English full package and Simple Chinese full package on Mac lion and Windows XP. For the bundle, which extension should be bundled should depend on the real usage. For example, for English package, the english related directories should be bundled. And for one specific lanauge package, the related language directory should be bundled as well. But if many directories for one language, say, English, should we bundle all of them? It should depend one user requirements and if it is handled by our extension pool. For other extension not related to directory, we may also bundle it depend on the if most user will need. Actually for one extension used by most people, I prefer driving it to become one feature of next release. Re: [BUILD][RELEASE] Dictionaries on language packs
Ariel, On Windows build, it works same way. I understand it is design. Language package only providing translated help, resource strings but nothing with directory. You have to install dictionary separately. Maybe in further release, the language packages can come with dictionaries. Best regards, Lily 2012/4/12 Ariel Constenla-Haile arie...@apache.org Hi *, IIRC language packs came with dictionaries. That way you could install a generic en-US install set and then add language packs providing translated Help, resource strings, and dictionaries. You may modify the master page of impress if you plan modify the text size from 32 to 22 for whole slides. 2)improvement / Impress /Writer: Changing of picture size by mouse is very annoying. If you have inserted a picture from file into your presentation or document, you in 96 % of the cases need to modify the size - smaller or bigger. And 99% of those cases you expect that the picture should keep the original shape - it meens to Keep ratio!!! But now in Open Office when you resize the image, it never keeps the ratio - even if the Keep ratio checkbox is checked. I suppose this feature has been five years. If I do not work properly, still the feature should be changed because nobody cannot understand. See the attachments keep_ratio.jpg,resize.jpg. I don't have this kind of problem against AOO 3.4, maybe you can try again. 3) bug: / Impress: Text area. Many times when I try to insert a new line on my list pressing Enter, the application do not add a new line, instead tries to continue writing the same line and the letters appear at the same character at the end of the line. I can fix it by selection another text area and after that coming back. The problems appears many times a day, not for every text area. See the attachment open_office_text_area.jpg. Also I haven't this kind of problem against AOO 3.4, you can try and if you still have it, report it in BugZilla. 4) development proposal: Every open office program should have on the Help menu two selections: Send a bug report, Send a development proposal which should order a link where you could send your comments with automatic information of the version you used. Well, seems one good suggestion. Also post it in BugZilla as enhancement request. Re: [RELEASE]: showstopper Bug 119215 - save operation fail and prompt continuing to save endlessly on r1309668-Chinese China (zh-CN) version
You work very late for fix...Great to see root cause has been found. I will stand by waiting for the build with fix to verify. Best regards, Lily 2012/4/12 Jürgen Schmidt jogischm...@googlemail.com On 4/12/12 11:43 AM, Jürgen Schmidt wrote: Hi, I was just short in front of starting the vote for our RC after uploading a new Windows version based on r1310206 to have the same version on all platforms. But we have found a further serious issue that is definitely a showstopper Bug 119215 - save operation fail and prompt continuing to save endlessly on r1309668-Chinese China (zh-CN) version I was able to confirm it for pt-Br on MacOS. We have to analyze this problem. It seems to be a relation with partly wrong/missing translations and the save problem that we didn't understand right now. Both pr-Br and zh-CN versions have the problem with a partly wrong translation, at least some menu items are still English and in both versions saving of a new document is not possible. Maybe other languages are effected as well... I will keep you informed! Juergen I believe that I have found the problem. I have to built now again over night to verify it. I will keep you informed... We use language id's like pt-BR, zh-CN, ... and on the pootle server they are pt_BR, zh_CN. That seems to be a problem that for all languages with a - the localize.sdf file contains _ and the conversion into xcu files doesn't understand both and generated nothing. Well I am guessing right now only because it is late in China and I still have some Jet lag but the built is running and I will see the result tomorrow morning. Hopefully that will fix the problem and we can move on with our RC ;-) Good night Juergen PS: I am not sure if it can be changed on pootle, I have to check it. Otherwise we have to convert it on fly before we check the sdf files.
AOO 3.4 QA Weekly Status Report As of 2012/4/16
Hi all, Due to I will take three days vacation from tomorrow and couldn't access internet, send report today. *AOO 3.4 Overall QA Status:* Based on the test plan: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Release-QA-Plan, I can say that the planned work are 100% done. 100% IP clearance testing have been done. These are the tests of areas most impacted by removed/replaced modules due to IP clearance. 100% general testing have been done. These are general functional tests. We are focus on RC build(may call it pre-release build) testing against r1325589http://people.apache.org/%7Ejsc/developer-snapshots/windows/r1325589/Apache_OpenOffice_incubating_3.4.0_Win_x86_install_en-US.exehttp://people.apache.org/%7Ejsc/developer-snapshots/windows/r1325589/Apache_OpenOffice_incubating_3.4.0_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe *AOO 3.4 QA Weekly Status Report as of 2012/3/26 (2012/4/9 - 2012/4/16):* Test build: dev snapshot builds: Rev. r1303653, r1310206,r1325589 Test Platforms: Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 SP1, Mac Lionn, Mac 10.6.8, Suse 11, Ubuntu 10.04, Redhat 6.1 Test Cases Executed: Test Build: r1303653, r1310206, r1325589 The testing we did this week are: 1. Installation testing, cover clean and upgrade. For English only base package, specific langauge full package and multi-langauges full packages. 2. Language package install testing and the UI language switch testing. 3. Directory Extension testing 4. Some small regressiont testing Rerun Interoperability automaiton testing against r1309668. Test on Mac 10.7. The scenario: 1. Open MS 2007 files in AOO3.4 2. Save it as MS 2003 format 3. Reopen it in AOO3.4 Two regression defects are found, one is Took too long time to open some files. The other is froze when saving files. When we tested specific language full package, one show stoper problem was found: i119215: Save operation fail and prompt continuing to save endlessly on r1309668-Chinese China (zh-CN) version. Which be fixed in r1325589. This week, QA volunteers will focus on RC build verification as RC build voting seems come soon. Here is the RC build test plan: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+RC+Build+Test+Plan *Defects Summary:* So far 432 defects raised against 3.4beta, AOO dev and 3.4m0. And 264 remaining defects opened. If we count the defects from 1th Aug. of last year, it means the about date we call AOO 3.4, the total defects number is 342. Among the 432 defects, 60 critical defects raised and 213 ones remain opening now. https://issues.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMEDbug_status=CONFIRMEDbug_status=ACCEPTEDbug_status=REOPENEDfield0-0-0=flagtypes.namefield0-0-1=flagtypes.namefield0-0-2=bug_severityquery_format=advancedtype0-0-0=equalstype0-0-1=equalstype0-0-2=equalsvalue0-0-0=3.4_release_blocker%2Bvalue0-0-1=3.4_release_blocker%3Fvalue0-0-2=blockerorder=short_desc%2Cpriority%2Cbug_severityquery_based_on=All340ReleaseBlocker 119162 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119162 cri P2 Linu ooo-issues@incubator.apache... For 119208, from accessibility view, it is show stopper. Based on previous testing and my daily usage on AOO 3.4, so far we can say that: The stability is ok. The interoperability with MS Office seems fine. The basic functions work fine. The extension is one weak area The upgrade installation on linux has some problems Besides, the accessibility, globalizaiton may have some problems. If you have interesting in QA work and decide to contribute to it, please go to AOO 3.4 main page:http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA. Get dev build from: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+Unofficial+Developer+Snapshots Write your case by edit this page: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/TestCases/ And place your result: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/TestResults Or you may just do general testing based on your usage without test cases or testing result and just raise defects in Bugzilla
Re: [Proposal] Official Google+ Page for Apache OpenOffice
please add me lilyzh...@gmail.com Lily 2012/4/19 Rob Weir robw...@apache.org Like Twitter and Facebook, Google+ is a good way to engage with users and the larger OpenOffice ecosystem. Unlike Twitter, Google+ has some enhanced capabilities, such as ease of sharing pictures and video and chat hangouts. The user base is slightly different as well. Google+ is more cutting edge at present, compared to Twitter, and has more early adopters. An important capability from the perspective of the PPMC is that Google+ has built in support for allowing multiple account managers, allowing us to put an account under PPMC control and share responsibilities for maintaining it. I'm proposing that we make this Google+ account into the official Google+ account for the project. I'd be happy to add any PPMC members who are willing to help me with it. Re: Using language pack r1303653 with program version r1325589?
Regina, It doesn't works as the revision number is different. Seems AOO 3.4 RC build will only publish English full package and specific language full package. The language package wouldn't be published. Best regards, Lily 2012/4/18 Regina Henschel rb.hensc...@t-online.de Hi all, I get crashes on the multi-language version r1303653, which makes the version not usable for me. But I need German and English UI. Is it possible to use the language pack r1303653 with the program version r1325589? Kind regards Regina

RC Build Verification Test Report
Hi all, I summary the RC build verification report got in ooo-qa list here: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+3.4+RC+Build+Test+Report In general, below issues found RC build (r1325589): 1. Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Brazilian language packages don't work on Linux platform. This may due to the same problem that using - in filed name, which occurred for full native language packages before. If we don't plan publish language package for AOO 3.4, this issue can defer. If publish, i119210 may have to be fixed. - i119210: Cannot switch UI languages to zh_CN on Linux if installed en_US then zh_CN language package. 2. Upgrade issues on Linux platform: - i119158: Cannot upgrade integrated menu from 3.3 to 3.4 on Redhat6.1/Suse11. - i119162: Two copies of ooobasis packages after upgrade from ooo3.3 to 3.4 The two ones are known issues and recored in installation guide and release note(I didn't check them so far but be supposed do this way). No ship stopper. - i119258: Languages remain in the languages list though the dictionaries cannot be used after upgrade from OOo 3.3 This issue is something related with Linux upgrade. User can remove the invalid packages manually to fix this problem. 3. Two functional regression defects: - i119238: The title and author font is too small if creating one presentation from template except for original ones. I have no choice to verify which build introduce this regression but may not RC build. - i119239: Blue background in notes view. Same as above. 4. Upgrade from OO 3.2 to AOO 3.4 - i119271: Spell checker doesn't work if upgrade from OOo 3.2 to AOO 3.4. This one should be checked. 5. Install/reinsatll round trip issue. On Windows XP SP3, Clean install AOO 3.4 English package. And the other language packages. Then uninstall AOO 3.4. Now the language packages for AOO 3.4 are still there. Try to install OOo 3.3 now. After install, I tried to new document/presentation/spreadsheet,freeze and no response. I tried the scenarios three times and got same result. Then I tried to upgrade to AOO 3.4 again, always be told that I should exit AOO 3.4 quick start first. It seems the below scenario doesn't work: OOo 3.3 plus AOO 3.4 language packages. The above scenario is seldom be used and may be record in somewhere like forum etc. No ship stopper. So only one thing need check is i119271. I will double check it against new RC2 build: r1327774. Anyway, based on above testing result, I give +1 for RC build voting. Best regards, Lily
Re: Pinterest
Nancy, I like your idea very much! Currently Pinterest is very popular in Social media and Social business in the world. More and more enterprise, community etc use it to promote their product and business. Surely we can use it to promote AOO 3.4 and further release. I am writing one paper about From Social Media to Social Business these days and is thinking how to promote AOO to the world except for the ways we used before. Except Pinterest, Youtube is one good way we can use, I suggest we record some video to doom AOO 3.4 and do something funny about the release etc. And promote it to Youtube. We may work together. And anyone else has interesting? With AOO 3.4 is released I suppose we should have some promotion activities. Best regards, Lily 2012/4/26 Nancy K nancythirt...@yahoo.com Hi! I attended an hour webinar highlighting the use of Pinterest for businesses - B2C, B2B and also personal. I learned that in less than a year, this social media format has surpassed youtube, google+, linkedin - and is now number 3 in usage under facebook and twitter (not sure which one of the latter is first). Terminology - PINS are images that you post on your BOARDS - like you would post picture cards on an office bulletin board. The thing is that pins can be linked to a landing page, folks can 'REPIN' your pin (with its image and links) to their own Boards. They can 'like', 'comment', REPIN. I can imagine ways that this could be used - for instance a separate BOARD for Writer,Draw, etc. Each board could have its own tutorial 'pin' with a link to the respective landing page. Their could be a board for the history, another for people behind the scenes, the imagination can go on - the webinar suggested using up to 32 boards, but you can have more. Each board displays 5 pins. Look at General Electrics site ( pinterest.com/generalelectric)- notice how the images on their boards entice people to look around and create a bold statement (especially the first board). Another idea would be to reward those that contribute to openoffice by placing a 'I helped too' kind of board, people could repin their award on their own boards and their friends could see what they have been up to. Because this is increasing in popularity, and a great way to spread branding, I suggest reserving the openoffice username even if no one plans to use Pinterest yet. Starbucks (pinterest.com/starbucks)has reserved their name, but does not use it yet. I have just signed up to use pinterest, and have not added anything to my boards yet. I do not know the way to get analytics yet, still reading about it, but the webinar mentioned this is available, as well as tracking keywords that are working for the competitors. So far it is by invitation from another pinterest user to set up an account. By the way, check out /microsoft - everyone is starting out, it seems.
