Re: [openthinclient-user] Can't display directory object: 0

2011-10-07 Thread Helpdesk
Thanx Dave and Jorn,

I installed a new instance of OTC now i can update and install packages. When I
connect it to the Active directory with "domainname\username" it works 1 time
when I close the management screen and reopen it it comes with the error
message. "username@domainname" works ok.

Rob

Hi,

I believe the issue you have identified is a known issue. I refer you to
http://openthinclient.org/Troubleshooting?bl#installation where the issue " The
list of the package manager is empty" is discussed.

The first time I installed openthin client on a Ubuntu based system I did not
have this problem but did on a subsequent Debian installation. I never
investigated it further because I have abandoned the use of open thin client.

Regards

Dave

Hi Rob,

keep in mind that the maschine on which you're trying to start the manager
must be able to contact the otc-server by its hostname:

e.g. If the hostname of the otc-server is "openthinclient-server" and your
local domain is "net.intern", your computer should be able to ping or dig

openthinclient-server.net.intern
and
openthinclient-server

Please try it on a commandshell.

Maybe all components of the manager will operate well without a propper
name resolution. The packet management will not work without it.

Regards,

Jörn

Hello Rob,

the DNS does not work.
If the server hasn't an internet connection, there are problems with
name resolution.
After long time with no DNS-response, the client has got a time-out
and continues its boot sequence.

Please configure a local DNS e.g. in your router or DHCP-server, this
should solve the problem.
Good luck!

Hi Martin,

Thanx for the quick reply.

The "thin client" is a HP DC7800 SFF with a intel Q35 express graphical
card.

There is an other problem with the LDAP. I get the user and group but
when I want to assign applications to the user it says that the user
name isn't correct.

I've installed OTC on a Windows XP client in a Windows 2003 AD
environment..

it seems the xorg driver does not match the graphics of your TC.
do you have configured specific graphics and assigned it to this
particular TC, or does this error show up on "auto detection"?

what are the specs of your thin client (especially of your graphics)?

I've tested a few other Thin clients with all the same result. The
tested clients are all HP machines. The first machine was a HP DC7800

[openthinclient-user] 2 problems

2010-07-19 Thread Helpdesk
Hi,

When we try to boot often it stops at "Building TCOS base config" after
a reset it works again. Is there a solution for this.

When I startup with a newer HP desktop DC7800 or DC8000 it loads the
initrd.img after that we have a black screen.

We running with OTC 0.4.5 on a Windows 2003 Virtual server

ThanX Rob

[openthinclient-user] can't load realm

2010-01-13 Thread Helpdesk
I get the message can't load realm: can't init directory. Till yesterday
it worked fine, now when i open the Thin Client manager i get this
message. There is nothing changed. The AD controller is called with his
IP number, and i did see the user and groups in the management tool.
What could be the problem?

ThanX

Rob

If you can see the users, it should be ok.

Do you use the the IP or the DNS name in the AD access configuration?
Please try using the IP, I remember that there once was (and might still
be) some race condition during boot.

[openthinclient-user] Logon with AD credentials

2010-01-12 Thread Helpdesk
We can't logon with the AD credentials, we can see the ad users and
groups in the OTC manager. When we switch back to "local" users we can
logon with the credentials from a local user. What are we doing wrong?
