yes, the more seldom the update, the more messages.

This is just what I thought, but it looked strange, as that "part 0" is
appearing over and over again.

I thought, once a part has been finished, it would not be tasked again.
Howver, maybe it HAS TO be worked over and over again.

Ok, I believe, this thread can be closed.

i think this finally explains why you're seeing a message which isn't
showing up for others.

It's highly recommended to run the feed updates daily. The longer the
time between the last feed update is the more data needs to be
processed. If you're checking the greenbone-scapdata-sync around line
1220 there is some code located in there which is splitting too large
feed .xml files into smaller parts and the "part 0 Done" is probably
just a logging of this.

Hi Christian,

I checked. It is the script "greenbone-scapdata-sync", which causes part 0.

Execute greenbone-nvt-sync, then greenbone-scapdata-sync. Doing so (after not
updating for a week or so) will appear this behaviour.

I wish you a very happy christmas.

Hi,

none of the sync scripts provided / installed with the current stable
source archives published at http://www.openvas.org/install-source.html
are showing this behavior or the "part 0" messages.

Re: [Openvas-discuss] openvas-feed-update - what is this part 0 thing?

2017-12-22 Thread Hans
Hi Christian,

if you take a look at the script, it is just calling greenbone-nvt-sync,
greenbone-scapdata-sync and greenbone-certdata-sync, which are IMO part of
openvas.

I am not sure, which one of these three commands is causing the mentioned
messages, but one of this is clearly the cause.

BTW, you can answer in German as well, if you like, or write directly to my
mail address.

Thanks for your efforts.

If you don't get an answer here at this list it is recommended to get in
contact with the author of this script to get more background info what
the script is actually doing and whats the purpose / meaning of these
"part" messages.

[Openvas-discuss] openvas-feed-update - what is this part 0 thing?

2017-12-19 Thread Hans
Dear list,

every time I am running openvas-feed-update script, I get messages like

part 0 DONE
part1 DONE
part 0 DONE
part 1 DONE
part 2 DONE
part 0 DONE
...
...
...
part 0 DONE

and so on.

And at everything this lasts longer and longer, and I have the feeling, each
time I am starting openvas-update-feed this messages is getting more and more.

What is this doing? I suppose, this is some sorting thing, maybe filtering of
keywords into the database or so.

Is there anything, that can be done, to shorten this? I have the feeling (but
no prove), that there are going things again and again. This would explain,
why "part 0 DONE" appears over and over again (as well as part 1 or part 3
whatever).

I would like to know the background of this thing, what it does and so on.

This run is running sometimes 15 to 30 minutes, this looks strange for me,
even on a slower computer.

Thanks for reading this and enlightening me.

Best regards

Hans-J. Ullrich
