Re: [osg-users] OpenSceneGraph-TrainingMaterials - SVN problem - missing files?

2013-06-19 Thread Philip Taylor
I have hit a similar SVN problem with OpenThreads.

Since most files were checked out OK, this looks like missing files rather
than an issue on my local machine, but just in case .

I am using TortoiseSVN 1.7.7, Build 22907 - 64 Bit , 2012/05/15 12:16:05

There are more recent versions - 1.7.13 and 1.8 - but this still feels like
a server rather than a client problem.

[osg-users] AnimationPath/Manipulator questions

2013-06-19 Thread Conan Doyle
Hi,

I am using an animation osg::AnimationPath to control an object in my scene.
I want to use osgGA::AnimationPathManipulator to set my camera pos/orientation.
My question is how do I sync the paths. The time step in each animation
references the same point in time. Will the animation paths begin at the same
time?

CD

...

Thank you!

Cheers,
Conan

Hi ZhangMi,

You can find the majority of the ocean rendering algorithms used in the
following paper:

http://graphics.ucsd.edu/courses/rendering/2005/jdewall/tessendorf.pdf

It's pretty much a straight implementation of that work. The shaders are fairly
run of the mill effects.

Cheers,

Kim.

[osg-users] Wait for camera to finish rendering

2013-06-19 Thread Marko Srebre
Hello,

I am having a compute pipeline (physics simulation) that ends with a camera
that renders to an image (for further processing on cpu). I'd like the
Viewer::frame() to exit only after the image has been rendered to, so that
update traversal happens after the data has been downloaded to image.

I am familiar with the workings of

Code:
setDataVariance(osg::Object::DYNAMIC),

but this unfortunately applies to drawables, not the output image. If I set
data variance to dynamic, the frame() will wait to process the drawables for
the camera node, but exit right after, not waiting for the render to image to
finish. The only way I could figure out, to make it wait, is to set up a dummy
camera (with dynamic variance) with a render order right after my image-camera.
That works, but I was hoping there is nicer solution to this problem that I am
missing.

I was also considering camera PostDraw callback, but it doesn't really solve
the problem, since the downloaded data won't be available in the next frame
update travesal.

If anyone can share some experience on this matter, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Cheers,
Marko

You can find some example models in the "models" subdirectory of
OpenVRML. Those should work, of course not every VRML feature is
supported in the plugin.

I can have a look at it, but what is the recommended way to fix this?
The problem is that VRML meshes use the indexed format for the most
part, so if the mesh representation has to be converted, that is going
to be a major pain. BIND_PER_PRIMITIVE loss is annoying, but can be
fixed relatively easily by duplicating the attributes per vertex.

That is normal - the OpenVRML code is chock full of templates and
various complex C++ constructions, so the compilation takes ages. GCC
is not the fastest compiler when it faces loads of template code.

That's odd. For me it never hung on anything, it just took a while to
build. Could you have some system issue? E.g. a latent filesystem
problem? The libtool is used only at the very end as far as I could
see, so that shouldn't affect compilation.

The code is just complex, that's all.

[osg-users] Please test svn/trunk in prep for 3.1.8 dev release

2013-06-19 Thread Robert Osfield
Hi All,

I will be tagging the 3.1.8 today or tomorrow, there have been
substantial changes to the internals of osg::Geometry and associated
classes that used the deprecated array indices and BIND_PER_PRIMITIVE
binding. These changes are complete yet but are most of the way there
in terms of what we'll require for the up coming 3.2 stable release.
The extent of these changes means that we'll need testing across as
many platforms and against as many models and applications as we can.

So... please could the community check out svn/trunk and let me know
how well it builds on your platform(s) and any issues that arise. In
most cases I expect user applications will just compile and work as
before, if you are using the deprecated features then you application
should still compile and work with the default build of the OSG,
however, you there are some changes that will require code changes to
keep things compiling and working. Longer term you'll need to move
away from the deprecated features (they've been deprecated for a
number of years already.)

Let me know how you all get on, good or bad and I'll try and get fixes
checked in or provide advice about how you can tweak your application
to fix any build issues that might arise in niche cases.

Cheers,
Robert.

2013-06-19 Thread Robert Osfield
Hi Jan,

Via .configure I have disabled almost all the options I running with a
single thread build file got openvrml-0.18.9 to build all the way
through, it look a long time just shy of 28 minutes on my system.
It's kinda bizarre that something that really should be quite modest
takes so long, each file compiled can take tens of second to build.
Previous builds it's got stuck on certain files, just sitting there
forever until I assumed that it hard got into a infinite loop or
something similar so aborted the build, I did a number of these with
different options. There a ./configure option for disable libtool
lock which I used in previous build and the one that just completed so
I don't know if that has an effect.

I'm just installed openvrml and now doing an OSG build, safe in the
