Re: Difficulty importing GPX file

2018-08-28 Thread gNeandr
@Bart
Yr post is the "nearest" answer to my general question how to
export/edit/re-import gpx file(s). I was trying this with limited success.
Here are my "open" points .. and I hope you (or someone else) can help with
a general attempt.

I'm using
-- OSMAND+ 3.1.5 on Android 8.0.0
-- Linux/Mint 19 (Tara)

To download the .gpx files (like favorites.gpx) there is no problem. And
with the hard way to edit the .pgx file using an editor (atom) is OK also.
To upload that edited file back to OSMAND+ installation seems to be a
problem. If the name is different like 'favorites1.gpx' it's shown in the
Android directory, also opening the file in external program like 'GPX
Viewer' (vers. 1.29.8) is OK, the favorites are shown on a google maps.

The problem is to "replace" or overwrite the normal favorites.gpx file.
-- to upload it with the Android/Linux cable link, also no error msg, the
file isn't changed on the Android.
-- renaming with using the link from Linux or also on Android with a file
manager fails.
(with Android: SD-Card --> Eigene Dateien -> Android -> data ->
net.osmand.plus -> files -> favorites.gpx)

There is reported OSMAND holds the user/app data also at some other places,
but those infos seems to be (very) old, so I'm not sure what are the true
right locations. Probably the location is the primary problem? Any help for
that?

Last not least, what is the best way to edit the favorite and track gpx
data. What are the "experts" using?

If some manual work is for you less evil than using various tools, then you
can manually copy the points

between the files, as any GpX file is a plain text file
That you can edit by any plain text editor like notepad.(Rather avoid using
Word)

If the data are not huge, it may be easier for you then dealing with scary
tools.

Or, exactly the opposite, you may realize the tools are not scary at all .

Thanks Goran - I have read a bit more about it and downloaded the
application. After playing about with it (and the Help files) I have
managed to combine the files I wanted to. They are now uploaded onto our
devices!

May thanks for your help.

It's not about programming. GPSBabel is an application you just run.
I linked to the command line version, but there is a graphical version
too. (I don't use the latter, so I can't say much about it.)

GPX files are pretty simple in structure, so it would probably not be
very hard to merge them with a plain text editor.

Otherwise, if it is just a one-time thing, feel free to send the files
over and I'll run it for you if you would like.

Merging GPX Favourite files

2018-08-28 Thread Les Morton
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I have searched for an
answer but can't find anything.

Basically I want to merge two (or more) Favourite (GPX) files into one. My
wife and I have a pad and phone each so want to merge our collection of
Favourites into one common file.

Is this possible?

Thanks - Les

Bart, thanks for the hint. Actually it does auto -center even before
following a route -as in planning a route. I had seen that setting you
described, but the way my screen displays, the 'never' option was hidden.
Crap. scrolled up and saw it. Ok, that helps! Yes, that is exactly the

Thanks again!
