Nero problem

2005-01-10 Thread TerriStimmel
Hello everyone,

I've got a friend who is having a problem with Nero.
He didn't have this problem, until he connected an external CD burner to his
computer.

He was using version 5.5 without any problems. Then, when he connected up
this external burner it was as if Nero couldn't recognize it. All it shows
is that he has that virtual recorder.

Well, I remembered having this problem, so I told him that he should try
upgrading to version 6, and see if this fixes his problem. So he did that.

His problem wasn't solved. And it turns out that this external CD burner is
not new, he's had it for about three, or four years.
He did update the driver to the latest one he was able to find, so that's
not the issue.

My thinking now, is that there must be something we need to do, in order for
it to work. Or that this particular model won't work with Nero at all.

What do you all think? Is my friend's problem fixable or not?

Any thoughts or suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Terri

2005-01-10 Thread Peter Scanlon
I have Easy CD DA extractor running. Only the earlier version. I guess I
can wait a few days and the pages may have the new version.

The one thing I don't like is not being able to see what tracks are
selected and what are not.

How does one select an individual track? Is it space bar?
I am going to write to PC Audio to see f anyone has a method distinguishing
this.

Question about TV tuner cards, and recording TV

2005-01-10 Thread TerriStimmel
Hello everyone,

I know these sorts of questions have been asked on this list, time and time
again. But I'm hoping that you all won't mind answering them yet again.

A while back, I thought that someone on this list, talked about a program
that you could use to record TV shows, using your computer.
Unfortunately though, I can't remember who brought this up. They gave a
website.

If possible, could this person post this info again?
And could you possibly give some pointers on how to use this program?
If you'd rather write me off-list, then that would be fine. I'll post my
email address at the end of this message.

Also, I'm interested in some information about different TV tuner cards.
Are there major differences in them?
Can some of them do more, or offer more, than others can?

I've been trying to find out some of this info on my own, but I haven't had
too much luck. I'm not sure what a good resource is, to learn about this
sort of thing.
And when I did a Google search, I got way too much info. Some of which
wasn't helpful at all.

Any info on this will be much appreciated.

My email address is:

Hi Terri,
When I was looking for an external TV card the make that kept cropping up
was Hauppauge. I think they do several different models. You can get
information about them at:

Good luck.

Hi Terri,
Your friend has presumably installed the necessary drivers for his external
CD burner but has he selected it with Nero. If not, tell him to launch Nero
and press Alt+R to get into Recorder Menu and press Enter on Choose
Recorder. Provided the burner is plugged in it should be listed. Use the
arrow keys to select it then tab to OK and press Enter. Hopefully it should
then work.

Good luck.

Then it sounds as though the problem lies with the CD burner. He may need to

Easy CD DA Extractor question

2005-01-10 Thread Peter Scanlon
Hi all,
I have decided to try Easy CD DA Extractor as it seems to be a popular
choice of ripper which many blind use.

When I move through the list of tracks in a CD I cannot figure out how to
tell if a track is selected or not. I know I can select all or unselect all
or invert selection, but this does not seem to allow me to select or
unselect individual tracks, and most importantly I cannot tell which is
selected or unselected.

I am using Jaws 6 and am wondering if anyone has created a script for this
purpose, or can tell how to achieve this.

Help much appreciated.

What difference is there visually. If I could figure that out perhaps I
could write a script to tell me.

Subject: Easy CD DA Extractor question

Hi all,
I have decided to try Easy CD DA Extractor as it seems to be a popular
choice of ripper which many blind use.

When I move through the list of tracks in a CD I cannot figure out how to
tell if a track is selected or not. I know I can select all or unselect
all or invert selection, but this does not seem to allow me to select or
unselect individual tracks, and most importantly I cannot tell which is
selected or unselected.

I am using Jaws 6 and am wondering if anyone has created a script for
this purpose, or can tell how to achieve this.

Help much appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I know these sorts of questions have been asked on this list, time and
time again. But I'm hoping that you all won't mind answering them yet
again.

A while back, I thought that someone on this list, talked about a
program that you could use to record TV shows, using your computer.
Unfortunately though, I can't remember who brought this up. They gave a
website.

If possible, could this person post this info again?
And could you possibly give some pointers on how to use this program? If
you'd rather write me off-list, then that would be fine. I'll post my
email address at the end of this message.

Also, I'm interested in some information about different TV tuner cards.
Are there major differences in them? Can some of them do more, or offer
more, than others can?

I've been trying to find out some of this info on my own, but I haven't
had too much luck. I'm not sure what a good resource is, to learn about
this sort of thing. And when I did a Google search, I got way too much
info. Some of which wasn't helpful at all.

Any info on this will be much appreciated.

My email address is:

Re: ipod player.

Subject: RE: MP3 Ipod
Hello,
I won an Ipod at work and have been able to get it somewhat functional. The
first step was to ditch the Itunes software, which I found totally unusable.
There is a peace of software called Anapod Explorer put out by RedChair
software which works like a dream. The URL is www.redchairsoftware.com and
It organizes the Ipod in to folders and puts an icon on your desktop which
you basically access like just another folder in My Computer. You can
either copy/paste or send-to files to this window just like you can a folder
on your hard drive, and Anapod even lets you manipulate playlists in an
intuitive manner. It doesn't insist on synchronizing the Ipod with a
library on your computer as Itunes apparently does. The documentation is
called the Omnitome and is on their website.
In terms of using the device itself, I found that the remote control is
far the easiest interface. There are definite buttons for play/pause,
previous and next. You press down on the prev. and next buttons to fast
forward or rewind through a selection. I have had limited success in using
the unit itself by counting the audible clicks emitted by the Ipod when you
access the touch wheel. The second selection on the menu is playlists and
then you touch the middle button for enter. If you numerically sequence
your playlists in Anapod, you can then count clicks to the playlist you
want, enter, then either touch the top of the wheel to play or use the play
button on the remote. Not the easiest interface in the world to use, but
with a little elbow grease, it can be made to cooperate a little. I highly
recommend that anyone interested in using an Ipod check out Anapod explorer.
I also found it essential to sit with a sighted person enough to get some
guidance in figuring out the interface. Hope these remarks are helpful.

Hello everyone,
I've got a friend who is having a problem with Nero.
He didn't have this problem, until he connected an external CD burner to
his
computer.

He was using version 5.5 without any problems. Then, when he connected up
this external burner it was as if Nero couldn't recognize it. All it
shows
is that he has that virtual recorder.

Well, I remembered having this problem, so I told him that he should try
upgrading to version 6, and see if this fixes his problem. So he did
that.

His problem wasn't solved. And it turns out that this external CD burner
is
not new, he's had it for about three, or four years.
He did update the driver to the latest one he was able to find, so that's
not the issue.

My thinking now, is that there must be something we need to do, in order
for
it to work. Or that this particular model won't work with Nero at all.

What do you all think? Is my friend's problem fixable or not?
Any thoughts or suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Terri

Nero is very particular about burners, and doesn't seem to support as many

I had a USB cdrw drive, that was supported by Nero, but then Nero came with

You might be able to get supported drive imformation from Nero's website,
if there isn't any in the documentation that ships with the software.

Well, I've just met my last straw. I've been trying to listen to the
Nashville channel for a couple hours now. First the 40s channel launched.
Then some channel, who knows what, it was country but I could see from the
flash window that Confederate Railroad was playing on the Nashville channel,
and it wasn't that...launched. It might have been Hank's place, I don't
know. But something I didn't want. So I tried again. This time got the 70s
channel.
I wanted jazz at one point this afternoon, and I got a jazz selection but it
wasn't the one I wanted. So, I've written them (for the second time, the
first time they couldn't find my account although they can find my Visa card
just fine) to ask that my account/subscription be cancelled. I won't do this
till I get a receiver of some type. I think it'll be XM but it might not be
since I could also do MLB online.
I'm really annoyed. Windows were maximized, as far as I could tell anyway,
who knows. I tried with both Jaws 5.1 and WE beta 5.

I can, as has been stated by others, listen to my XM radios with little
trouble. I can choose the stations I want by number or move up and down the
dial with little trouble. The problem is that this is only the bare bones
minimum of what is available for my monthly service. I have a Myfi portable
unit for example which is a wonderful device. I can do all the things I
have stated on it with ease.

But here are some of the features I can't use.
1. I can't read the display to get the artist and title of the song.
2. I can't set the presets.
3. the other day the unit got locked and I didn't know why until I
discovered which button to press and how to press it to unlock it.
4. The Myfi allows for programmed recording of events much like a VCR
records TV programs which I cannot do because I can't see the screen.
5. After recording my selections it is possible, if you can see, to rotate
the selection wheel and go through a list of all the songs which played
during the recorded item and select only the one or ones you want to hear.
6. my car radio and my Bose stereo require the XM radio to be set at
different volumes for undistorted listening. I have to have my driver do
this because it can only be done on the screen.
7. here's one I forgot. On the Myfi unit you can select an artist you like
and be advised every time that artist's music is playing on any channel, if,
of course, you can see the screen.

There are others such as knowing the battery level or satellite strength but
I think you get the picture.

Now I'm not meaning to whine about the unfairness of it all but I think we
need to continue to let manufacturers and service providers know about our
needs. I'm now still kicking myself for not getting an XM PCR when they
were available. Finally, I think XM is a great service and I hope we can do
something about not only the web site but the radios as well.

I have the XM Online..and don't think the quality is bad at all!
Have been listening through my FM transmitter to the fifties channel.
I get bumped off now and then. But all in all..it's pretty good; just
wish they'd make that player more screenreader friendly!

Is there a way to adjust the equalizer in winamp? I upgraded from winamp
5.04 to 5.08C. When I installed 5.04, i had someone sighted here to help
me set it up.
