Re: premier CD problems

2006-01-02 Thread Bruce Toews
1. Go into the program. Choose make an audio CD.

2. Shift tab until the program says select drive. Select the drive from
which you want to choose your files.

3. Shift tab and you'll be in a directory tree. Choose the directory in
the drive you chose earlier to get your files.

4. Tab twice, and you'll be in a list of MP3, WMA and WAV files. Start
choosing your files. When you find a file you want to add, press F8.

5. Keep repeating. Every time you add files, you'll hear a running tally
of how many megs free you have on the disk. You can tab to the right and
you'll see the tracks you've added.

6. You can add from multiple drives and directories, just repeat steps 2
through 5.

7. While in the list of tracks, you can select a song and move it up in
the list with control+u, and down in the list with control+d.

8. Once you've laid out your CD the way you want it, press F6 to start
recording.

9. You'll be given a series of three radio buttons: track at once (with
the gap between tracks), session at once or disk at once (without the gap
between songs).

10. Once you've chosen this, tab once and click the button to start the
recording process. If you've chosen MP3's, you'll hear two sets of
percentages. The first is, I'm guessing, the file decompression, though
the program does not tell you this; it makes it sound as though the CD has
finished being burnt. Then you'll hear a much slower percentage count,
which is presumably the actual burning process. The program interjects
with cute encouragements like just started, Half way there, and Hold
your horses, almost there.

11. The CD will eject, and you're done.

 Creative SB Live! Value (WDM)
 Driver Date: 1/07/2001

There are 4 jacks to the left of the Joy Stick port.

I am trying to send sound into the card from my mixer using my microphone
so I can run Skype on this computer. There is no prolem with Skype or my
Mixer as I am able to run Skype on my other computer configured with a
 Delta card.
So if you can help with which is which, and perhaps which settings I need
in the Sound and Audio controlls in Controll Panel.

Subject: getting back lost +20DB boost

 Hi:

I feel rather stupid asking such a question, though I'm sure it's been
 brought up here before.

I have a laptop (toshiba A65s126) running Windows XP Pro. For a rather
long time, the option in recording control to have the +20 DB boost
has been unavailable, as I can't get to advanced controls within the
sndvol32 application. This is not specific to the onboard sound card, as
this is the case for any external sound card I use on the laptop as
 well.

I rarely ever use anything other than my dedicated AKM semi-conductors
USB dongle for microphone input as it's much cleaner than the onboard
sound or the creative USB interface I have, but it'd be nice to know, for
future reference, how to get this back when it occurs.
Is there a key in the registry that breaks it? What actually causes it,
and how can it be fixed?

 Thanks for any info:

RE: Total Recorder: Appending To A File

2006-01-02 Thread Caroline Ford
Dean and Fazil,

Thanks to your help, I have at last found how to append to a file in Total
Recorder, rather than over-writing the original file.

In case anyone else wants to know how to do this, the steps are as follows
(I am using the Standard edition, so things may vary for those using Pro):

1. Go to the Options menu.
2. Select Settings.
3. Highlight Open/Save from the list and press Tab seven times.
4. In the list of radio buttons entitled Action for making new recording
over previous one, choose the third radio button, Append, and then tab once
more to OK and select it.

I've just tested this and it works fine. Hope it might be of use to someone
else.

Caroline.

Re: activating noise reduction

2006-01-02 Thread Brian Hartgen
Hi Jerry
I have looked at all the potential internet security possibilities, and no
other sites are affected and all seems OK.

I assume they are closed today, Monday, but are back on Tuesday so will try
to call them then to resolve this. Interestingly, it says on the site that
build 2.0C of noise reduction was uploaded in December 2005 because people
had problems with the older build in respect of activating it. So they must
be aware there are some issues.
Let's hope I can get it resolved.

Thanks.

online question/Re: sirius radio

2006-01-02 Thread joanne
In September I visited a friend and we wanted to listen online to Sirius.
At that time you could only listen for 3 days free, and Sirius had told my
friend that even if we were willing to pay to listen online you couldn't do
this without first having the radio. So I'm confused, as I thought someone
on this list said you can listen to the music channels online without having
the radio. We would like to be able to listen online without getting the
radio, and I know with XM you can do this. Has the policy changed at Sirius
and can we hear music channels by paying for the online service but not
having the radio? Thanks for clearing this up.

Hi John.

Goldwave will allow you to do both. Beware though that encoders and
decoders have their own unique algorithms for converting to lossy formats so
you can expect some degradation in quality when converting between MP3 and
WMA.

Thanks.

Looking for a Program

2006-01-02 Thread Steve Matzura
I'm looking for a program I cannot find anything nearly like anywhere
on the net. This program is an MP3 tag analyzer. Not an editor--got
enough of those--this program that I need will only read and report on
MP3 tags.

I want a program which will analyze MP3 files--either a file or
recursive folder of files--and write a list of files which contain (or
which don't contain) data in each of the standard V1 and V2 MP3 tag
fields defined so far. If the bit for one or the other MP3 tag
formats is unset, I want that reported, as well as reporting if the
bit is set but the fields are blank or contain null values. In this
way, I can run the program and generate lists of files that need some
fixing-up of their tags. Then I can use these generated lists in other
programs and make the changes in a consistent manner across my entire
MP3 collection.

While being a programmer, I am not a PC programmer. I don't have any
tools--compilers, linkers, assemblers, etc.--to do the job on this
platform, no less the information on the format of a .MP3 file to go
tiptoeing through it to find the data I need and report on it. I have
far too many MP3 files to upload them to one of my VAX or Alpha
systems and write a program on that platform (which I can most surely
do since that's what I do for a living anyway), and I'm thinking that
this kind of program would be a sweet piece of cake for some
enterprising soul to cobble together reasonably easily and quickly,
and we could all benefit from it when it's polished up nice.

If you or someone you know can help out with this, please write me
off-list, as this is marginally on-topic, if at all, for this one.

Thanks in advance.

Easy, don't use interactual player!
It has built-in issues. Have you tried playing the same DVD using
something like Power DVD or WinDVD?
Also, have you looked at the display settings to see if they meet

Re: Winamp.

2006-01-02 Thread Dana S. Leslie
1. Start Winamp, and open the playlist editor, with alt-e. Press ctrl-tab,
until the playlist editor has focus.

2. Press ctrl-n, to open a fresh (empty) playlist.
3. Close or minimize the winamp application.
4. Browse, in Windows Explorer, to the first track you want to add to the
playlist. Click on the Files menu (or open the context menu, with a right
click). Press enter on Enqueue In Winamp. When you do so, Winamp will
re-open, but ignore it.

5. Repeat step 4, for each track you want to add to the playlist.
6. When you have added all the tracks you wish, return your focus to Winamp,
and ctrl-tab to the playlist editor. The playlist editor should now contain
all the tracks you enqueued, in the order you added them. Save the playlist,
with ctrl-s, being sure the files has a .m3u extension. You're done!

Re: online question/Re: sirius radio

2006-01-02 Thread Chris Skarstad
Sirius does not offer a way to subscribe to the service without purchasing
a radio first, this is correct. XM will allow you to buy a subscription to
their online service for $7.95 a month, but you don't get all the channels
the regular radio can get, and you actually get some channels that are only
available online. So as far as XM goes, the ideal way to do it is just buy
a radio and then you can also subscribe online for free. The radios are
like only $39 now so the prices have dropped considerably. The kicker is
that $12.95 a month subscription price.
Same for Sirius, accept the radios cost a little more and you also have to
pay $12.95 a month to subscribe.

Subject: online question/Re: sirius radio

In September I visited a friend and we wanted to listen online to Sirius.
At that time you could only listen for 3 days free, and Sirius had told my
friend that even if we were willing to pay to listen online you couldn't
  do
this without first having the radio. So I'm confused, as I thought
  someone
on this list said you can listen to the music channels online without
  having
the radio. We would like to be able to listen online without getting the
radio, and I know with XM you can do this. Has the policy changed at
  Sirius
and can we hear music channels by paying for the online service but not
having the radio? Thanks for clearing this up.

 Jerry and Andy,

I think that what is pertinent here is that you want to go to the On
Demand section of the ACB website, that is, Main Menu on demand. When
 you
get there, you usually have to go down several links, until you get to the
section where the separate weekly listings are for On Demand. It took me
 a
little bit of patience to get there. Also, there are several On Demand
links; you want to hear that there are something like seven hundred eighty
four links or something, then find your way down the list, past the
convention links and such. It is not all that difficult, but, it takes a
little while to get there. Then, figure out how to enter on and download
 the MP3 files.

Sirius does not offer a way to subscribe to the service without purchasing
a radio first, this is correct. XM will allow you to buy a subscription
to
their online service for $7.95 a month, but you don't get all the channels
the regular radio can get, and you actually get some channels that are
only
available online. So as far as XM goes, the ideal way to do it is just
buy
a radio and then you can also subscribe online for free. The radios are
like only $39 now so the prices have dropped considerably. The kicker is
that $12.95 a month subscription price.
Same for Sirius, accept the radios cost a little more and you also have to
pay $12.95 a month to subscribe.

Re: online question/Re: sirius radio

2006-01-02 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. Ok, here's a breakdown of the 2 services, at least from my perception,
I'm quite sure people will have different opinions or add things I forget
here.

The 2 services are about equal with respect to the number of channels you
can receive, they're not exactly equal in number but it's vvery close.
It all depends on what kind of programming you want to receive.
XM has a deeper selection of music in their library, so if you like those
rare tracks a lot of radio stations doesn't play, then you'll like
xm. However, if you like the more popular songs, plus channels devoted to
specific artists and other theme channels, you might like Sirius. Like
major league baseball and NHL hockey? XM has both. Both xm and Sirius are
about the same when it comes to talk and entertainment programming. XM has
Opie and Anthony, while Howard Stern begins his uncensored show on January
9th on Sirius.
The very best thing you can do is check out
http://www.sirius.com
and http://www.xmradio.com and look at the different channel lineups and
features. That should give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect.

How well does it work in high-rise apartment places? I live on the 6th floor

be able to scan the presets with, not even sure my XM would work, but I want
to switch to Sirius. What kind should I get that has direct channel entry on
the remote? I heard some don't have it on the remote either.

Hi Ray, I haven't had too bad of a time with antenna placement,
though in the house I get the best results with the antenna facing
southwest. I would have to move it sometimes when the climate
changed, or when there were significant solar flares or
whatever. Just kidding a little there. Anyway, right now I have the
antenna outside on our upper deck, facing west. With the antenna
outside I rarely get any problems with the transmission, but I do

2006-01-02 Thread Ken Scott
Radio Shack sells those batteries, as do probably any number of other
mass-merchandisers. There's nothing particularly special about them, and I
don't believe they're proprietary to XM. Simplest thing to do would
probably be to take the original to Radio Shack, tell them that's what you
want, and they'll take care of you. If I remember right, they sell them in
packages of either three or four--I don't think you can buy them
individually, but that way you'll have some extras laying around for quite a
while to come, given how long they last.

Re: premier CD problems

Hi Bruce. Well it sounds to me in some ways like Premier CD Creator is more
complicated than my Nero 5.5. I don't seem to have any problems burning
CD's with that one!

It's really not that complicated, and the one test CD I did worked just
fine. But I do *not* believe that it's easier than CDRWIN, and I don't
think *any* burning program is easier to perform a basic CD compilation
with than Easy CD-Da Extractor.

hi. Ok, here's a breakdown of the 2 services, at least from my perception,

The 2 services are about equal with respect to the number of channels you

It all depends on what kind of programming you want to receive.
XM has a deeper selection of music in their library, so if you like those
rare tracks a lot of radio stations doesn't play, then you'll like
xm. However, if you like the more popular songs, plus channels devoted to
specific artists and other theme channels, you might like Sirius. Like
major league baseball and NHL hockey? XM has both. Both xm and Sirius are
about the same when it comes to talk and entertainment programming. XM
 has
Opie and Anthony, while Howard Stern begins his uncensored show on January

The very best thing you can do is check out

and http://www.xmradio.com and look at the different channel lineups and

Sirius does not offer a way to subscribe to the service without
  purchasing
a radio first, this is correct. XM will allow you to buy a
  subscription
to
their online service for $7.95 a month, but you don't get all the
  channels
the regular radio can get, and you actually get some channels that are
only
available online. So as far as XM goes, the ideal way to do it is just
buy
a radio and then you can also subscribe online for free. The radios
  are
like only $39 now so the prices have dropped considerably. The kicker
  is
that $12.95 a month subscription price.
Same for Sirius, accept the radios cost a little more and you also have
  to
pay $12.95 a month to subscribe.

In September I visited a friend and we wanted to listen online to
Sirius.
At that time you could only listen for 3 days free, and Sirius had
told my
friend that even if we were willing to pay to listen online you
couldn't
do
this without first having the radio. So I'm confused, as I thought
someone
on this list said you can listen to the music channels online
without
having
the radio. We would like to be able to listen online without
getting
the
radio, and I know with XM you can do this. Has the policy changed
at
Sirius
and can we hear music channels by paying for the online service but
not
having the radio? Thanks for clearing this up.

 Hi Arthur.

Joint stereo is specifically used to enhance the sound of MP3 files that
have been ripped at a very low bit rate such as 128kbps. There is some
 math
involved in the way that the stereo information is analysed and then used
 to
enhance the sound but I don't have that depth of detail at hand.

channels
the regular radio can get, and you actually get some channels that are
 only
available online. So as far as XM goes, the ideal way to do it is
just
 buy
a radio and then you can also subscribe online for free. The radios
are
like only $39 now so the prices have dropped considerably. The kicker
is
that $12.95 a month subscription price.
Same for Sirius, accept the radios cost a little more and you also
have to
pay $12.95 a month to subscribe.

   Subject: online question/Re: sirius radio

In September I visited a friend and we wanted to listen online to
 Sirius.
At that time you could only listen for 3 days free, and Sirius had
 told my
friend that even if we were willing to pay to listen online you
 couldn't
 do
this without first having the radio. So I'm confused, as I
thought
 someone
on this list said you can listen to the music channels online
without
 having
the radio. We would like to be able to listen online without
getting
 the
radio, and I know with XM you can do this. Has the policy changed
at
 Sirius
and can we hear music channels by paying for the online service
but
 not
having the radio? Thanks for clearing this up.

 Hi Arthur.

Joint stereo is specifically used to enhance the sound of MP3 files that
have been ripped at a very low bit rate such as 128kbps. There is some
 math
involved in the way that the stereo information is analysed and then used
 to
enhance the sound but I don't have that depth of detail at hand.

 Regards.

Hi, I've notice that mp3's at 128 kbps joint stereo seem to be better
quality than normal stereo mp3's. So, what is joint-stereo and why is the
 quality difference present?

  Thanks,

  Arthur.
