Re: Media Player: Ripping/Burning

2006-02-14 Thread nick danger
Hi Katrina,

I didn't really change any of the settings. In the rip music option the
only thing I checked on was to see in which format the files would be ripped
in. I like the W M A format Because of the amountof compression you get.
The files are smaller in size than the MP3 counterpart. I'll have to take a
look at the rest of the defaults.

No no no...I didn't change anything in JFW. My thought was possibly some
changes that were made in Media Player could have caused JAWS to react so
crazy. Maybe that is a stupid thought, but I did some guessing when
choosing the Media Player settings so was afraid I selected the wrong
options. By the way, a lack of memory and/or processer speed is not a
 problem with this particular computer.

Can you advise me as to what options I should choose in Media Player?
 What
format is best to use? In the options for ripping music, I have chosen
MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3 (MP3). The audio quality is at zero (the default
setting). As for performance options, the default for buffering is at
 100%.
Do these settings seem okay? Are there other settings I need to make sure
are appropriate? Are the settings the same regardless if the source CD is
 a
pre-recorded/commercial CD or if the CD contains MP3 files that were
 burned
 to disk?

 Thanks,
 Katrina

 Hi Katrina,

Do you know exactly what setting you changed in JFW? Jaws has no problems
when I do either task. It also could be a case of the amount of memory you
have that may be affecting the speech. With my old windows2k system, I
couldn't use jaws with the audio burning tools because of the strain it
 put
on the ram. I've got over 500Megs of ram in this new system and it purs
 like

a well how should I say this, oh yeah, got it. Kat! Grins!

 Subject: RE: Media Player: Ripping/Burning

 Hi Nick,

First of all, thanks for the prompt reply! Secondly I must apologize for
guessing about the Media Player version being 8. In fact I have version
10...I knew it was the most current version, but couldn't recall the
 specific number.

Anyway, I was surprised to find the rip option (on this computer) in the
menu that appeared upon insertion of my CD. Don't know how I over looked
that before. I will have to check the other computer to make sure, but
don't think the same option is given on my other system. Just this
afternoon tried inserting the CD before loading Media Player, and the rip
option wasn't given in that menu. Hmmm. I had 3 options, play the CD,
explore the CD, and take no action. I'll certainly give your steps for
manually ripping the CD a try no matter what options are given as they
 seem
 clear and easy to follow.

Now for the issue of most importance to me at this point. Should I be
 able
to use JAWS while a rip/burn is in process? If so, it seems I have
 changed
some setting that disagrees with JFW. When trying to use JFW during a
rip/burn, JAWS speaks horribly slow and jerky. Could I have chose a
 wrong
setting? Does it matter what format, speed, etc. that is used? I really
think something is not right, because this only started happening after I
changed settings in Media Player. When I have burned music via iTunes,
 JFW
has worked fine. Perhaps (out of curiosity) I should try burning/ripping
via iTunes again to see how JFW reacts.

 Again thanks for your help.

 Hi Katrina,

First, you'll need to upgrade your media player to the latest version
 which
 is 10.0

Once you have that, you can follow these instructions for ripping cd's
 with
 it.

Ripping a cd to your hard drive using the windows media player
Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to insert the cd into the hard
 drive.
A dialog box will then come up and prompt you to take an action. These
 will
range from exploring the files on the cd with the windows explorer, to
burning a cd with your preferred rom burning program to ripping the cd
 with
 the
windows media player or simply to take no action. Once you've chosen the
 rip
action press enter and the cd will rip to the following folder:
 c:\documents
 and settings\my documents\my music location.
If you choose to take no action

Re: no scilence

2006-02-14 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Michael,

Why don't you just take the original recording you made (the one you
imported into Goldwave) and burn it to CD? If it's not in a format that any
of your burning programs can handle, then import it into Goldwave (as you
did) and save it as a wav; then, burn the wav to CD.

If, for some reason I'm missing, you can't do either of these, using
whatever burning software you prefer, set the gap between tracks to 0, and
burn all the separate wavs you made.

I've never used Winamp Pro for burning, so I can't tell you how to set the
gap between tracks, in that program. But, in Easy CD-DA Extractor, there is
a handy edit box, with the number 2 in it, by default. Just change the 2 to
a 0, and you're good to go. I can't imagine Winamp would be much different.

Blessed Be,

OK, I want to give a VDay guift to my girlfriend, and so I am sending this
to the pc-audio list and the blindcasting list because maby they might be
 able to help me.
I want to burn a cd with out any gaps.
What I did was recorded a radio show I did in sam, wich made cool pro
sounding mix's, and then it recorded it into one file. I took this file
into goldwave, and cut each song and saved them as .wav files in a temp
folder I mad on my computer as files:
 a.
 b.
 c.
 etc
I want to take file a, then file b, then file c, etc and make them into a
cd wich has no gaps between the tracks, and I need some information on a
program, even a demo 'cause I am only going to be doing this once, that
works with jaws that I can download.
Someone help me, I have 12 hours from this point untell I see my cutey,
and I want to get this done.
 thanks.

2006-02-14 Thread Jouie
I suggested nero. Before burning, there's an option there that asks you if
you want to illiminate the silence between tracks.

 Hi Doc.

Within the Play settings of control panel f11, there is no checkbox to
identify this problem. I've configured these settings in line with John
Wilson's recommendations, from his tutorial, Audio playing, copying
andsound

 Best wishes.

How to make sure that I have all nero updates?

2006-02-14 Thread shannon
Hello,
Can anyone tell me how I can determine if I have all the updates for Nero 6.x.x?
I don't have the foggiest idea what most of the help menus are talking about. I
have I think all of the updates but am not sure. There are more things in my
start, programs, Nero but when I go to read the user manuals some are not their
and I have to go to the site and download my language. When I pick my language
it says to make sure that I have all latest versions. My problem is I am not
sure what all the choices are and if they apply to me.
Sorry that I am asking for so much but I just don't know enough to no better.
Smile
Thanks Shannon

Re: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

2006-02-14 Thread Dana S. Leslie
Jonathan,

Just tuned in to the kick off party for the Minx. Thought I should let you
know that BOTH your streams (Windows Media and MP3) have a very unlistenable
fuzzy quality. If I had to guess, I'd say something needs adjusting in the
digital modulation of the signal. That could be a totally off-base guess.
But something in your signal quality definitely needs adjusting.

Good luck with the Minx, and hope to hear you sounding much better in the
very near future.

Blessed Be,

Subject: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

Hi all, this list is sponsored by MosenExplosion.com. Very occasionally, I
will send messages to this list about new projects. These are extremely
 rare
and of course you are welcome to delete them. If you have any inquiries
about this message, feel free to write to me privately but not to the
 list.
 Thanks.

The Minx, at http://www.the-minx.com, is a new Internet radio station that
launched at 8 PM US Central time on Tuesday evening. The stream is a broad
band 128 KBPS MP3 stream. While many of my Internet radio projects have
 had
a blindness focus, this one is very much aimed at a general audience,
including all my blind friends and listeners of course! Of all the music
radio I've done on the Net, nothing has been more carefully programmed.
 The
Minx features a careful blend of music that reflects all aspects of love.
First love, passionate love, unrequited love, love and marriage, love and
 divorce...you'll love The Minx.

Settle back and listen to loves songs from the country, soft rock, RB,
 easy
listening and jazz genres in high fidelity broad band stereo.

It's the perfect companion to your work day, when your in the office and
regular terrestrial radio reception is difficult, or when those pesky
commercials and talk just get on your nerves.

It's the perfect companion at home, when you're unwinding with the one you
love, or just thinking about them.

From the Board room to the bedroom, the Minx is your companion.

There's something here for everyone from the starry eyed dreamer to the
 crusty old cynic.

We will still be taking donations, but there will be other ways you can
support us. One such way, already available, is our very own Minx store,
powered by Amazon.com. When you make a purchase through The Minx Store,
 you
get the benefits of buying through Amazon, plus you help keep the Minx on
 the air.

Please feel free to check out the site right now. Vote in our poll and do

We also have a comment line, and if you would like to wish us luck so we
have some contributions to play on the air, we would love that. The
 comment

We're attempting some really innovative cross-promotion, where we're
 giving
free advertising time to any podcaster who advertises the Minx on their

 form if you're interested.

The Minx also features high quality news bulletins hourly, from FSN news.

I hope you'll check the station out. A lot of work has gone into the music
mix, and beta testers of the format have been really impressed with it.

Thanks again for your support. Kind regards.

Good luck with the Minx, and hope to hear you sounding much better in the
very near future.

hi. I've noticed the *exact* same thing, and I
know of 2 or 3 other people who have noticed it too.
It's as if there is absolutely no high end on the

something like a 24k or 32k mp3 stream may
sound. I'm not in any way complaining about this

It's like there's a whole lot of bass, but very little to no high frequencies.

hi. I've noticed the *exact* same thing, and I
know of 2 or 3 other people who have noticed it too.
It's as if there is absolutely no high end on the
signal, like an AM radio station might sound, or
something like a 24k or 32k mp3 stream may
sound. I'm not in any way complaining about this
as I explained to Jonathan privately, but I
wanted to confirm what Dana is saying here.
It's like there's a whole lot of bass, but very little to no high
frequencies.
Let's hope we can track it down very soon!

The problem is, JAWS crashes every time I close the program. I'm using JAWS

The questions are, do I have to recompile the scripts? As my friend said.
Are this scripts compatible to JAWS 5.0? Do I need to deltete the scripts,

There's definitely too much base, but \ can't be sure about too little high
end. But what's most annoying is the quality I called fuzziness, and someone
else described as scratchiness, in the vocal frequencies. It reminds me most
of a poorly modulated single side band signal, not heterodyning, just badly
modulated. I have no idea what that would correspond to in digital terms.

batch processing in Sound Forge

2006-02-14 Thread Dean Martineau

I have questions about batch processing in Sound Forge, version 8 and also
using the external batch processing module available with earlier versions.

Right now I have the earlier version, and can't figure out how to do what I
want to do with it. I want to add effects to numbers of files. I can see
how to ad plug-ins, but I don't want to do that, I want to add built-in
Sound Forge effects such as normalize and time warp. I am using JAWS or
Window-Eyes, whichever is better for this task.

The folks at Sony offered me a lower-than-advertised (supposedly) upgrade
price to upgrade to version 8. Is batch processing more accessible there?

I can do all this in GoldWave, but Sound Forge is much faster so I'd like
to use it if I can.

Thanks.

Dean

RE: Media Player: Ripping/Burning

2006-02-14 Thread Kat
Hi Kevin,

Let's see if I can explain this. I have a few CDs that contain MP3 (music)
files that were downloaded as MP3 files. I used iTunes to burn these CDs,
but only have access to Media Player on the computer that I want to use to
rip the files. Therefore, I am trying to figure out two different programs,
basically one for burning and the other for ripping.

I thought that I was supposed to select the MP3 format option in iTunes,
even though the files were already MP3 files. Actually that does sound
strange now that I think about it, so it could be my problem.

Not sure if I understand you. Are you saying that I should choose the Audio
Cd format when burning the downloaded MP3 files? Or are you simply
referring to the disk itself as an audio CD? iTunes offers 3 format
options: Audio CD, MP3, and Data CD. I may have misunderstood the help
documentation instructions. I was under the impression only
pre-recorded/commercial CDs would be burned with the Audio CD format, and
that MP3 files should be burned with the MP3 option. If I sound confused it
is because I am. (smile)

Hmmm, and here I thought that I had mastered the burning process. (smile)
Guess it is back to the drawing board. (smile) Probably won't have much
luck ripping the CDs that I've burned if they weren't formatted properly.

Hi Katrina.

You shouldn't have any problems with those settings. I rip using WMA
lossless format and have full use of this 512MB machine while the rip's in
progress.

You wouldn't use media player to rip a CD of MP3 files if the disc was
burned as a data disc so assume you mean MP3 files that have been converted
and burned to an audio CD? If so, there will be no difference between that
and a prerecorded disc.

You may have noticed that there are settings in the ripping tab of media
player to rip a CD when inserted and eject when complete. These are very
handy when ripping a number of CD's one after the other.

Another way of activating the rip is to use your JAWS cursor and issue a
left click on the rip music icon just below the menu bar at the top of the
screen.

Regards.

It reminds me most of one of those AM stereo

not sound like a 128k stream should sound, that's the main idea.

Re: An Announcement about a new Internet radio project

2006-02-14 Thread Chris Skarstad
Well yes it was, for AM radio, this is streaming
audio which is a completely different idea
altogether. I used AM stereo as an analogy. The
Minx stream sounds very much like AM stereo and
I'm sorry people, a 128k mp3 stream should *not* sound like that.
Please also understand that I am not, in any way
at all atempting to diminish the hard work that
has gone into putting this station
together. Hey, putting an internet stream
together is no easy task. But when something
sounds bad, and I think it could sound better,
I'm going to be completely honest and at the same
time, try to remain as constructive and respectful as I can.
I'll do all I can to try and help Jonathan work
out what the problem might be. From my perception
here, it just sounds as if all the high
frequencies have been taken out of the music, so
the best answer i have for right now is to do
whatever is needed to put all the highs back in there.
That's really all I have. I'll continue to listen for further developments.
