RE: Very Basic Question from a Beginner

2006-08-24 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

If you want to play the CD in any player, you'll need to burn it as an audio
CD. Many of the new players do have the capability of playing mp3 CDs, but
not all do. Essentially there are two kinds of CDs, audio and data discs.
Audio CDs hold up to 80 minutes of music and can be played in all CD
players. Data CDs are ones that will hold up to 700 MB of data on them. In
terms of mp3 files, this is about 12 hours of listening. The catch is that
you won't be able to play them on some CD players. I'm not familiar with
what Windows media will let you burn, so I don't know if you can make a data
CD with it or not.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions let me know.

off topic ms dosRe: off topicRe: creative Volume Control

2006-08-24 Thread Isaac
Here is the message I get when I type command in run. Cannot find the file
'C:\WINDOWS\'.
Make sure that the file exists on your system and that the path and filename
are correct. This is when I have CMD C:\WINDOWS\ in the cmd line edit edit box.
The other edit boxes are blank. As I said before the other boxes are working
and batch file this is the same message comes up when I enter on ms dos prompt.
Hope this sheds some light on the problem. Isaac

Re: MS DOS Prompt

2006-08-24 Thread Dana S. Leslie
The Working field is where you should specify the directory to which you
want the DOS Prompt to take you, as your starting directory. I imagine this
would be C:\. The Command line field, I think, is where you would specify
any command you want executed any time you open a dos window. and the batch
file field is where you would specify any batch file you want run whenever
you open a DOS window, such as a batch file that loads a DOS screen reader.

all of these fields are secondary to the target field, which is what the
MS-DOS Prompt, itself, executes, to open the DOS window. The string I
originally gave you goes in the *Target* field, for XP, at least. (As I
said, I don't know about ME.) Leave the command line field blank, unless
there is an environment variable or some such you need to set for the DOS
window. and leave the batch file field blank, unless you plan to exit JAWS
before each DOS window session, and to run another DOS screen reader,
instead.

RE: MS DOS Prompt

2006-08-24 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I don't know the exact syntax for Windows ME, but here's something that may
help. These instructions work for XP. Maybe ME has something similar.

Go to the desktop
Open MY COMPUTER and select the C drive.

Now under the file menu there should be a choice for SEARCH. Choose that
and hit ENTER.

There should now be a field where you can enter part of the file name. In
that field type COMMAND and hit ENTER.

This should bring up all files with COMMAND in them. Look for something
like COMMAND.COM.

I think you'll see the path for the file there. Make note of that path.

Now in the run dialogue, type in the complete path and COMMAND. This should
give you a DOS window.

Again, this will work for XP. I would hope that Windows ME has something
similar. If others on the list know more about this feel free to add to or
correct what I'm saying.

Hope this helps.

Sam encoders and Winamp

2006-08-24 Thread Jardata Mail Services
Hello List!

I recently purchased the Sam Encoder Bundle and installed it into Winamp. Now,
I can't seem to get the program to work properly. I set up the program
(configered it), but when I try to connect to the net with it through Winamp,
the start button and stop buttons are always unavailable. I go to preferences
in winamp, select dsp and the particular encoder I want; then start playing
songs in winamp, but I cannot connect through the Sam Encoders. I can,
however, connect to my server through the shoutcast plug-in. I listened to
Toonhead's program on the Sam Encoder. Once I set it up, it has not worked for
me. I'd appreciate some help with it.

Also, I did download and install the latest Shoutcast Plug-in. It too gave me
some trouble and is not as usable as the old one or maybe I just don't have it
yet.

Help with the Sam Encoder would be very much appreciated.

I hope that helps and if it doeswn't then you might want to try reinsatlling

you might want to try and config it as the steps have changed.

i have another problem with soundforge. my attempt to mix music and voice
gives me this kind of prompt:

 Sony Sound Forge 8.0

The source sample rate is lower than the destination sample rate.

This difference in sample rates will cause the source data to play faster
and sound higher pitched in the final mix.

Sample rates can be changed while preserving pitch using the Resample
 function under the Process menu.

Are you sure you want to continue?

 Yes No

any suggestions for its fixes please?

 thanks.

 Hi
I just thought maybe I should change the subject line to better
reflect the message, as a bunch of help help help help! really
doesn't tell anyone what's going on.
As for why it won't play in sound forge, have you tried resampling
the file to see if it'll play after it's been resampled?
That's just an idea off the top of my head really.

NO, I was asking if ME hides the file command.com (and other system files),

Re: Sam encoders and Winamp

2006-08-24 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. Uh, how have the steps changed? It is exactly as it was when I
produced the demonstration back in 2003. You first select the sam
encoders in he list, then the window pops up and you are shown a list
of the connections you've made. If you hear list view, 0 items, you
got problems. You'll have to right click and choose new in the popup
menu and choose new and configure each of your streams. All this is
explained in the tutorial.

If you've entered all the information properly, hit f9 to start
the stream, and hit f10 to stop. If you still get errors, you may
have not allowed port 8000 or whatever port you're using to receive
traffic if you're behind a router or some kind of corporate firewall,
which I doubt.
Either way, I am hoping the tutorial is somewhat helpful. What I
would do is listen to it all the way through once, and then listen to
it again and either make some kind of notes, or if possible, perform
the steps as they're explained so you can get things set
up. Remember! With the sam encoders, you must first press the space
bar on an item in the list of different encoders and it'll be
selected. Then use your JAWS or window-eyes cursor to press the ok
button and you can then configure the active plugin to your liking.
hope this clears this issue up.

Hello List!

I recently purchased the Sam Encoder Bundle and installed it into Winamp.
Now, I can't seem to get the program to work properly. I set up the program
(configered it), but when I try to connect to the net with it through
Winamp, the start button and stop buttons are always unavailable. I go to
preferences in winamp, select dsp and the particular encoder I want; then
start playing songs in winamp, but I cannot connect through the Sam
Encoders. I can, however, connect to my server through the shoutcast
plug-in. I listened to Toonhead's program on the Sam Encoder. Once I set
it up, it has not worked for me. I'd appreciate some help with it.

Also, I did download and install the latest Shoutcast Plug-in. It too gave
me some trouble and is not as usable as the old one or maybe I just don't
have it yet.

Help with the Sam Encoder would be very much appreciated.

Re: Very Basic Question from a Beginner

2006-08-24 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi Donna. Ripping a cd is basically taking all, or a few of the
tracks on a cd, and converting the audio into a digital format like an mp3.
Burning a cd is when you have a blank CD and put either regular audio
tracks, or mp3s on it. Note different software can be used for either task.
So that's what that's about. and, don't feel stupid! If you don't ask
questions how can you possibly expect to learn right? That's what the
list is for.

If you have any questions let me know.

What I
would do is listen to it all the way through once, and then listen to
it again and either make some kind of notes, or if possible, perform
the steps as they're explained so you can get things set
up. Remember! With the sam encoders, you must first press the space
bar on an item in the list of different encoders and it'll be
selected. Then use your JAWS or window-eyes cursor to press the ok
button and you can then configure the active plugin to your liking.
hope this clears this issue up.

hi. You need to run both the encoders and the server. Think of it
like this. Your shoutcast server is your station's transmitter as it
were. Without that, you can't get your station's signal out. So the
encoders will work, but your broadcast won't go anywhere without a
 server to broadcast to.

i have another problem with soundforge. my attempt to mix music and voice
gives me this kind of prompt:

 Sony Sound Forge 8.0

The source sample rate is lower than the destination sample rate.

This difference in sample rates will cause the source data to play faster
and sound higher pitched in the final mix.

Sample rates can be changed while preserving pitch using the Resample
 function under the Process menu.

Are you sure you want to continue?

 Yes No

any suggestions for its fixes please?

As for why it won't play in sound forge, have you tried resampling

That's just an idea off the top of my head really.

The sam encoders would be better for doing what you want with being able
 to
 have two streams.

hi. You need to run both the encoders and the server. Think of it
like this. Your shoutcast server is your station's transmitter as it
were. Without that, you can't get your station's signal out. So the
encoders will work, but your broadcast won't go anywhere without a
 server to broadcast to.

 Hello List!

I recently purchased the Sam Encoder Bundle and installed it into
 Winamp.
Now, I can't seem to get the program to work properly. I set up the
 program
(configered it), but when I try to connect to the net with it through
Winamp, the start button and stop buttons are always unavailable. I
 go
 to
 preferences in winamp, select dsp and the particular encoder I want;
 then
start playing songs in winamp, but I cannot connect through the Sam
Encoders. I can, however, connect to my server through the shoutcast
plug-in. I listened to Toonhead's program on the Sam Encoder. Once
 I
 set
it up, it has not worked for me. I'd appreciate some help with it.

Also, I did download and install the latest Shoutcast Plug-in. It
 too
 gave
me some trouble and is not as usable as the old one or maybe I just
 don't
 have it yet.

Help with the Sam Encoder would be very much appreciated.

Edirol R-09: Fast forward and rewind with sound?

2006-08-24 Thread Michael Lang
Last year, I had the chance to play around with the Edirol R1 and I
noted, that one doesn't hear a thing, when one fast forwards or rewinds.
How is it on the R-09? If one can hear sound, does this work for MP3 and
Wave files?

Thanks

Hi all,

Actually, you can down arrow to it, press the right Windows key, arrow down
to Configure and press enter to get into the dialogue. Unfortunately, you
do still need to use the JAWS cursor commands to find and click the OK
button.

You have to double click the selectionhe with the jaws curser and then
 find
the ok button and root pc to jaws. Now you are presented with the config
 panel for the encoder.

Actually I believe in the ME eddition you can simply type command from
the run dialog and it will give you a dos window. I think the prompt will
be c:\windows.

 Hi.

I don't know the exact syntax for Windows ME, but here's something that
may
help. These instructions work for XP. Maybe ME has something similar.

 Go to the desktop
Open MY COMPUTER and select the C drive.

Now under the file menu there should be a choice for SEARCH. Choose
that
 and hit ENTER.

This
should
 give you a DOS window.

Again, this will work for XP. I would hope that Windows ME has
something
similar. If others on the list know more about this feel free to add to
or
 correct what I'm saying.

 Hope this helps.

Re: Very Basic Question from a Beginner

2006-08-24 Thread Tyler Wood
Ripping refers to the sequence of placing an audio cd's contents on your
computer. Since it is saved onto the cd in a .cda format, it needs to be
ripped from the cd, compressed, and put onto your computer.

Burning refers to the sequence of putting files from your computer or
harddrive onto a cd. There are two types of disks you can burn:

data, or mp3 disks, can be played on most modern cd players. They can hold
up to 700 MB of data, or close to, if not more then, 150 songs. Audio cds
are cds that can be played in older cd players. Essentially, the songs are
not compressed and you get 80 minutes of music.

hope that helps

 Hi.

If you want to play the CD in any player, you'll need to burn it as an
 audio
CD. Many of the new players do have the capability of playing mp3 CDs,
 but
The catch is
 that
you won't be able to play them on some CD players. I'm not familiar with
what Windows media will let you burn, so I don't know if you can make a
 data
 CD with it or not.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions let me know.

I'm just curious- if I recorded a podcast, where can I post it? If I can't, I
