Hi Jitendra, These scripts sound like a very good idea but you left out one very important detail. You didn't mention what screen reader these scripts are for. We don't know if they are scripts that work with Hal, Window-eyes or JAWS (smile). Now three screen readers support scripts it might be a good idea if people mention in messages what screen reader the scripts are meant to work with. In this case, nearly anything that is good at all and with aline input will do. If you're talking about stereo reel to reel tapes, then you'd probably want a fairly good and quiet card. There are even USB sound cards that are very good these days. As for software, my favorite for doing the transfer is Goldwave. Very accessible and easy to use after getting used to it. You can make very precise edits with it and you can have a free demo version that lets you do up to 100 operations per boot session. You can buy it for $45 U.S. at least that's what I paid for it and don't think the price has changed. If you don't need the editing function then CDEX is your choice. It is completely free. Re: Cassette to digital
There are several devices that will connect your tape player to a usb port. The iMic by Griffin Tech. is great and doesn't mess with your computer's speech. This little device hooks up to your tape deck, but can also be used with turntables, etc. One drag is that they are almost always sold out. You have to go on a waiting list. Mine took 2 weeks. Hope this helps. Sound Card
Hi I am looking for a USB preferably 7.1 external soundcard with ideally optical and coax digital outputs to connect to my Arcam home cinema amp. Optical would do but coax would be better. I can't see at all so I am looking for something I can operate with jaws compatibility. I am using at the moment a cheap Trust 5.1 card; have tried a Philips Orilium which did not work and an Audegy 2NX which I still have which when connected skipped like a CD and made jaws speak very peculiarly. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Brian To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Okay, I have just one final winamp-related question that hsoulbe be easy for someone to answer, and then I'll leave you guys alone. In what menu, submenu, checkbox, wshatever, do you find the choice for music to fade from one track to another? I found tjat cjpoce bu domlomg arpimd pm ,u pc's version of sinamp but can't seem to find it on the one I loaded into the Asus. Is it in Winamp professional or something? I don't remember purchasing Winamp, but maybe I did at some point, I don't know. So where do I find this fade from one track toanother with no pauses? Thanks again, as always! Sound Blaster Gold is a better one. Just depends on how much the quality matters to you. Not sure what you mean by four track. Do you mean Talking Book four track mono? Will record sound to several formats including .wav and mp3. For burning the CD I prefer Nero but EZ CD DA extractor is also very good and it can do conversions as well as burn. So you have several choices and others on this list probably have others as well. B B Roger Lauren wrote: Hi, Thanks for the info. What kind of a sound card do I need to get for the 4 track player? You need a sound card and an audio patch cord that will connect between the output of the cassette machine and the line in of the sound card. To record I prefer Goldwave as you can not only record, but precisely edit the beginning and end of each track or segment however you want the files to be and you can also set the volume level to maximum without distortion and even do some noise reduction in many cases. CDex will also record directly in mp3 format and you can turn on normalization to set the level but there's no editing or noise reduction features. And you'll also want Nero or other CD writing software and, of course, a CD-R drive which come with just about every computer these days to turn the sound files to CD. If you want audio CDs that will play on any CD player then you'll want to record the files as .wav instead of mp3 but the process is the same regardless of what kind of final CD you want. Mp3 files won't usually play on audio CD players but should play on DVD players. Hope this helps. Re: Success with the What You Hear saga, but the story isn't over yet
Yeah, I thought so; it was all to do with the direct sound output plug-in, which both of the Total Recorder drivers have issues with, such as garbled or distorted audio. Thanks for letting us know, as I was going to reinstall the drivers at some point and I'd hate to hear garbled audio without me knowing about it! Could you please describe the garbled audio you hear? Just curious. Does it skip as well as if it was a badly scratched CD? Does it heavily distort up to the point you can't make sense of the words? Again just curious as I never dealt with this problem and Total Recorder documentation don't really explain what one would hear. Re: Apple Releases New Ipod
Well, from reading http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/voiceover.html, it sounds like this works the same as the iPod Nano , so there isn't a TTS running on the Shuffle. The TTS is run on your PC and then iTunes copies audio clips over to the Shuffle. Since it's the same technology used on the Nano, you wonder how they can claim VoiceOver is the exciting new feature that makes iPod shuffle the first music player that talks to you. Don't forget, Rockbox has also been using this same technique for years. Although Apple's work on making their products accessible should be praised and encouraged, I'm not smitten with them yet. One wonders why it took Apple so long to add speech to their iPod's, why the whole line doesn't have this feature and why they didn't include accessibility in the iPhone from the get go.
