My stereo does have a usb connection.
so what I want to do is connect it to my computer and record using
goldwave. Can it be done?

Shouldn't that suffice in lieu of amps?

Hi. I'm looking for a good natural sounding mic with good gain. Any audio
files out there that can recommend one. I don't want to spend to much Just
want one that plugs directly in to the PC's jack. I had a lab tech that
sounded great but the cord went bad. I'd like to keep the price at no more
than $40. The lab tech I had only cost about six dollars. It was a head
set mic. Seems like alot of the mics either don't have the gain or low end
response and are to crisp on the highs.

Thanks, Joe.

Problem with Mic routing input to speakers

2009-08-23 Thread Matthew_2010

Hi all,

I have a very confusing problem I'm hoping someone on here will help me sort
out. I have a plantronics headset that I want to use with Skype. This
headset has 2 1/8th inch plugs for headphones and mic. When I plug in the
mic into my sound card and do not plug in the headphones, I'm getting my
microphone voice sent through my computer speakers. I'm in effect amplifying
my voice which I do not want to do. What can I do to not hear my voice
coming out of my external speakers? Is there a windows sndvol32 setting I'm
not configuring properly?

Are you trying to play the CD or DVD you burned using the free software
we've been discussing on the list? If so, then there were probably errors
during the burn. The first and simplest solutions would be trying a real
commercial music CD and se if that plays. Secondly, try rebooting and
playing the commercial CD again. Let's start with that simple stuff first.

Re: Problem with Mic routing input to speakers

2009-08-23 Thread Matthew_2010
Well, I muted the microphone and I was not able to record anything
whatsoever--no mic sound nor computer output sound. My sound forge wav file
of the recording session was blank. I then turned on the mic/unmuted it and
I was able to record audio, but I was also able to hear my voice coming out
through my external computer speakers. Any other suggestions I might try?
Again, I'm trying to record using a microphone headset plugging it to the
mic slot in sound card and plugging in headset and the speakers to 3 way
splitter connecting to the output slot of sound card.

Re: Problem with Mic routing input to speakers

2009-08-23 Thread Brett Boyer
Sorry didn't know you were recording, should've figured it out but I don't
pay attention. In voulume control you have your playback meters and your
recording meters. When you first open the program soundvol32 starts at the
output or playback mode. All of the sliders and checkboxes in this pane
relate to output. For example if you mute the master slider your sounds
disappear, or microphone, cd audio...
Anyway when you go to the options menu and properties you'll find a radio
button in that box to show playback (output) and record (input). When you
select the input radio button and tab to the ok button the window will look
similar but these sliders affect your input. Instead of a mute checkbox here
we have a select checkbox.
So you make sure microphone is selected. Now when you mute it from the
playback window again by options and properties you can mute the microphone
for output but have it slected for recording.
I hope that helps and sorry if I'm a bit verbose I don't know your level of
computer use.

take care

It's possible that its lost focus.

I was also told to check autoinsert.
Can you tell me where that is just to check?
and I apologize to lister Matthew if I came across as a bit harsh.

Hi randy,

This is a good news bad news thing as far as being able to help you with
this goes. Tomorrow I'm going to be going out of town so I won't be able to
do much for you after tonight but here's as much information as I can give
you to help you on the road to recovery.

Are you using windows xp with service pack 3? If the answer to this is yes,
then this is a major problem. I went through a similar meltdown of my CD and
DVD-RW rom drives and had to end up buying new ones.

Let me try and explain what I hope has not happened to you because this got
me good.

In service pack 3 windows not only alters registry codes pertaining to your
CD and DVD rom drives, they also implement some early windows installer
technologies in there that are not compatible to today's packages. It's
like having an ensult and trying to put a top of the line stereo system in
it. This of course will not work and what's possibly happened is that the
old technology has rendered the new CD and DVD-rom technologies useless.
The end result of this is that you may have to do one of three things: The
first of these is hopefully the solution for your problem and that is to go
to the following link and download the patch from microsoft that's under the
fix it for me link on the webpage.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060#nextsteps

Once you're on that page, run the patch. After you have run it, check to see
if windows still sees your drives then, try to play a CD or DVD in your rom
drives. If they still don't work, re-install your rom burning software.
This is especially true if you are running any of the following:

iTunes software by Apple
 Nero software by Nero Inc
Roxio Creator software by Sonic Solutions
 Zune software by Microsoft

If you are using windows vista, these same steps apply.

If you have done the re-install of the rom burning software and windows
still refuses to see it or play your CD's re-install your CD-and DVD-rom
drivers. You may also have to go to the website that makes your rom drives
and check for the latest updater to your firmware. Be sure when doing this
that you get the exact make and model to avoid complete corruption of the
drives. Hope this helps.

Tony

Friends, this is scaring the heck out of me.
I put a cd or dvd in to my drive, and nothing will not play!
I don't know to be honest with you what happened. it was fine yesterday,
then, bang! nothing doing.
is there anything i can do?
You do hear the drive making a buzz kind of sound, then it stops.

Re: Problem with Mic routing input to speakers

2009-08-23 Thread Matthew_2010

Bret,

Thanks for all the help, but I can't seem to make all this work. I've done
exactly as you've outlined, and I still can't get audio recorded without
turning my computer into a P-A system.

When I have the mic selected in input recording settings and unchecked in
output playback control settings I can't record my voice but all other sound
is recorded.

Don't know what else to try. I'll sleep on it and hopefully something I
overlooked might come to me in the morning.
