Hello PC-audio friends,

Accessible Electronics offers 5 MP3 players that are
completely voice output accessible to the blind. The units are all under
one hundred dollars. They all have a built in FM radio, which can record
internally, a built in microphone, in case you want to record a lecture,
and

they all play a variety of formats, from MP3, to even CD audio. The web
site is: www.accessibleelectronics.com There is a link on the site for an
audio demo. You'll hear Laz Mesa, who is blind, operate one of the
players,

and you'll hear the synthetic voice announce all menu options. Hope this
helps.

Hi Joe,

The fourth and fifth generation Nanno and the i-pod toudch with 32
and 64 gigs are accessible. Many people are using a script called j-tunes
to run with Jaws and itunes.

Apple is making most of their new gear available with access

1. Are you using both Studio and Creator?

2. If you are using both, do you understand the basic concepts of
Creator--categories, spot groups, rotations, schedules, etc., and what
to do with them?

3. In Studio, are you intending to use it as an Internet broadcasting

Fwd: SkypeTalking 0.8 released!

2010-04-16 Thread Steve Pattison
From: Hrvoje Katic hrvojeka...@gmail.com
To: skypetalk...@googlegroups.com

Dear friends,

Proud to release exciting new version 0.8 of SkypeTalking. This is the
fourth release, and contains lots of new features and some bug fixes and
improvements as well.
Comparing to first release from February (SkypeTalking 0.5), this is a
big step forward!
Some highlights of this new release are chat monitoring, easy way for
changing a mood text on the fly, improved support for file transfers,
better reporting of call duration, contacts manager and SMS support.
I would like to thank again to all of the contributors, as well as our
second developer Gianluca who has also made a lot of work on V0.8.
Now regarding the translations. The following translations still have to
be updated. They will unfortunately be outdated in 0.8. These are as
follows: czech, spanish, japanese, polish, portuguese and chinese.
All others are updated, including the documentation. I am just unsure
for russian and ukranian readme but whatsnew is translated.
We also simplified the installer, and jfwapi.dll is now automatically
registered, so users running 64-bit JAWS should no longer have problems
with SkypeTalking not detecting JAWS. SkypeTalking can now also be
launched with Alt+Ctrl+Shift+T hot key, which I didn't mentione in
whatsnew, so this will be updated for the next version under 0.8 section.
Everyone here on SkypeTalking mailing list was able to follow how much
work we've made on this new version, and thus every feedback is welcome.
We fixed some bugs, and some may be still present. The one problem that
we are aware of is slower performance with some commands e.g. slow
loading of contacts manager, slow reactions with end call command
(alt+ctrl+shift+end) etc. Another bug is where SkypeTalking will say New
SMS when that's in fact a new file transfer. I also experienced some
interesting problems where some events are not spoken sometimes for some
reason, so I ask myself, if they are spoken in general, then why they
are sometimes ignored for no reason, even if ignoring is off. I hope
that we will be able to address these bugs, but in general the program
should work quite well.
Here comes the complete list of new features copied from what's new
document as well as the download link for both portable and installer
versions of SkypeTalking 0.8.

New: Added the ability to monitor active chats, in other words, opened
chat windows. Use keystrokes Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Function keys F1 through F10
to set monitor on one of the last 10 active chats (press twice to bring
focus to that chat window). You can then use Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Numbers for
reading last 10 messages in currently monitored chat. Pressing
Alt+Ctrl+Shift+C will announce currently monitored chat, and pressing it
twice will bring focus to that chat window.
New: Added the ability to read and/or change your Skype mood text.
Pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+M will speak your current mood text, and
pressing it twice will open a dialog box that lets you change your mood
text.
New: Alt+Ctrl+Shift+O command reports the current user online status,
and when pressed twice, will report the user's current balance on a
Skype credit.
New: Added command for speaking the current call duration, Alt+Ctrl+Shift+D.
New: Added contacts Manager, accessed with Alt+Ctrl+Shift+F11, which is
the alternative to Skype contact list. It will display your contacts in
a multi-select list box allowing you to select them with a spacebar and
perform various actions on them such as Call, Chat or View Profile. It
will also display the Last Seen information for offline contacts, which
is inaccessible with some Skype versions and to some screen readers such
as NVDA. The View Profile action will open a profile viewer that will
allow you to review the selected contact's details by using the Tab and
Shift+Tab and the arrow keys. The Call and Chat actions are
self-describing. Pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+F11 twice will focus the
original Skype contact list. If multiple contacts are selected, then you
will have options for creating a conference or a multi-chat.
New: Added commands for answering and ending a call, Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Home
and Alt+Ctrl+Shift+End (not on the NumPad). Pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Home
during a call will toggle between hold and resume for the current call.
Pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+Home twice quickly will answer and join the
incoming call to a conference. Pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+End twice quickly
will toggle microphone mute or unmute.
New: Added support for sending SMS with SkypeTalking. The command
Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S will now open an SMS wizard which will allow you to
send SMS to any phone number. There are two dialogs, one for the phone
number and the another one for the message text. When entering a number,
use semicolons to separate multiple phone numbers and also include your
country code. If everything is correct, press Enter to continue. Next,
enter your SMS text, then

The guides are right on the player itself. The Quick-Start Guide is

Re: accessible MP3 players

2010-04-16 Thread Laz Mesa
Hi Casey,

Glenna ordered the Fuze. The way to get it to speak right out of the
box is to plug the earphones in and turn it on. If it doesn't speak
after about 5 or so seconds, it most likely just needs a reset, which
is accomplished by holding the power button in the on position for 15
seconds and then letting it go. Simple as that. Of course you also
get the free tech support and the 90-day replacement warranty in case
something doesn't work right.

The last 24 hours of 3mp?The First 24 hours of MTR 1377

2010-04-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

As Melbourne radio listeners may be aware, Radio 3MP ceases broadcasting on the
1377KHZ frequency and a new Talk station MTR 1377 replaces it on Monday at 6:00
am. 3MP has been part of the Melbourne landscape for nearly 34 years so I've
decided to record the last 24 hours of 3mP as we know it and the first 24 hours
of MTR as we'll hear it!

These recordings will be sourced from DAB+ so quality should be fairly good.

Also bare in mind that - all up- there will be about 12GB of material as I'll
be saving to FLAC to preserve the best quality I can get.

I'm happy to share this material - if you're not interested in recording it
yourself or you can't smile - so email me privately so I can make
arrangements for it to be uploaded and distributed.

No sorry, not prepared to upload both FLAC and MP3 versions.

2010-04-16 Thread Joe
The model number of the Nad pre-amp I mentioned yesterday is pp2. I got it
about 6 years ago, so I don't know if its still available. Its a high end amp
so you'd probably only find it at a stereo place carrying the high end gear. As
I said, its not cheep compared to some of the others, but you can hear the
difference in recordings. Take care. Joe.

There are two issues that I know of that didn't happen with older versions of
skype. First. In text chat, Jaws used to start speaking the message as soon as
it was received. This no longer happens. Now I must root my Jaws to PC and use
the arrow keys to read the message. Second. The alt shift O key no longer says
how many of your contacts are on line. Instead, it says unable to get the
contact list. Can anyone please tell me the latest version of skype and
scripts that work well with Jaws 11? Thanks. Joe.

recording with Sandisk MP3 player

2010-04-16 Thread Joe
I'm thinking of getting the E 200 4 gig or 8 gig Sandisk MP 3 player but I
would like to hear the quality of a recording made with the built in Mic first.
Can anyone please send me a small sample recording? It seems like these two
players give you the most bang for the buck. Thanks. Joe.

Audio Hijack Pro something I've just discovered

2010-04-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Well I don't know who to give credit to for this but it seems that -f you're
prepared to fiddle a bit - the Effects in Audio Hijack Pro are accessible.

For example, select the Effects tab and navigate to the Scroll area, Interact
with this.

Move the mouse to the scroll area with vo-command-f5 and click, a menu listing
all the effects pops up, choose the one you want and press the return key.

Now to clear the effect? Go into the Control menu of Audio Hijack pro and
select Clear Effects.

Yes, some problems still need to be addressed, you can't as far as I can tell
adjust the effect or have more than one effect active at the same time - well
at least you can't use Voiceover to accomplish these tasks - but perhaps if we
keep gnawing away - as we have ben - at the developers then we'll continue to
see improvements to what is an excellent product, Audio Hijack Pro is one of
those products on the Mac that I myself couldn't do without as it can be put to
so many uses, everything from Recording Skype and Ichat sessions to amplefying
sound taken from the line-in of the Mac.

Subject: Fwd: SkypeTalking 0.8 released!

New: Added support for sending SMS

However, if a person really wants to use a Classic or iPod Video they can
get the Rockbox software from www.rockbox .org to use on most of these

Hello all list members,
Apple is going out of their way for their blind customers.
The first few iPods didn't have Voiceover on them.
But if you order them directly from them, by special request, they will
install Voice Over on them before they ship it to you.
I still have my Apple Nano that I ordered 3 years ago, I have no problems
getting along with it!
And to answer the question about having to use iTunes to put audio files on
it, that isn't necessary.

Just use the copy and paste command to put them on your iPod.
My best regards.

Hi Joe,

The fourth and fifth generation Nanno and the i-pod toudch with
32 and 64 gigs are accessible. Many people are using a script called
j-tunes to run with Jaws and itunes.

Apple is making most of their new gear available with access
features built right in. Voiceover comes built into macs and the ipod
touch and iphones. Hope this helps and let me know if you need more

Re: Audio Hijack Pro something I've just discovered

2010-04-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay, I'll do my best to explain things here.

Given that Audio Hijack Pro handles many sources then how you adjust the level
depends very much on what you're hijacking/recording from, with Audio Hijack
Pro, Hijack and Record are 2 different operations. In order to Record you
first need to Hijack a source, you may just want to Hijack a source rather
than record it, when a source is Hijacked, you can redirect its audio for
example.

Some sources you can adjust the level by adjusting the volume control of that
source - say DVD Player -, others are Fixed level sources but the point here
is that Audio Hijack Pro is not an editor, only a recorder so if further level
adjustments or tweaking is necessary then you Edit the recording which is
placed in Audio Hijack's Recording Bin, various other operations are
available from there including the addition of effects, burning to CD and so on.

I hope this goes some way to explaining things and other Mac users may have
additional notes to add.

Hi!

Well I don't know who to give credit to for this but it seems that -f
you're prepared to fiddle a bit - the Effects in Audio Hijack Pro are
accessible.

For example, select the Effects tab and navigate to the Scroll area,
Interact with this.

Move the mouse to the scroll area with vo-command-f5 and click, a menu
listing all the effects pops up, choose the one you want and press the
return key.

Now to clear the effect? Go into the Control menu of Audio Hijack
pro and select Clear Effects.

Yes, some problems still need to be addressed, you can't as far as I
can tell adjust the effect or have more than one effect active at the
same time - well at least you can't use Voiceover to accomplish these
tasks - but perhaps if we keep gnawing away - as we have ben - at the
developers then we'll continue to see improvements to what is an
excellent product, Audio Hijack Pro is one of those products on the
Mac that I myself couldn't do without as it can be put to so many
uses, everything from Recording Skype and Ichat sessions to amplefying
sound taken from the line-in of the Mac.

Okay, I'll do my best to explain things here.

Given that Audio Hijack Pro handles many sources then how you adjust the
level depends very much on what you're hijacking/recording from, with Audio
Hijack Pro, Hijack and Record are 2 different operations. In order to
Record you first need to Hijack a source, you may just want to Hijack
a source rather than record it, when a source is Hijacked, you can redirect
 its audio for example.

Some sources you can adjust the level by adjusting the volume control of
that source - say DVD Player -, others are Fixed level sources but the
point here is that Audio Hijack Pro is not an editor, only a recorder so if
further level adjustments or tweaking is necessary then you Edit the
recording which is placed in Audio Hijack's Recording Bin, various other
operations are available from there including the addition of effects,
burning to CD and so on.

I hope this goes some way to explaining things and other Mac users may have
 additional notes to add.

Right, well if you work for a radio station then you may like to consider
Amadeus Pro for your editor, full multi track capabilities and so on, sounds as
though you're going to have fun in the next few months then? smile.
