Re: Veronica FM transmitter

2010-06-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Hello Bob,
Dave did call me back.
He told me that I could put a buffer amplifier that has vacuum tubes in it
between the transmitter and the mixer.
I told hem that I'd like to hear whatever I got playing on the computer or
what I have dialed upon the satellite dish receiver.
But however, I want to be able to pick it upon a portable stereo like a boom
box whenever I take a short walk to the park which is way less then a mile
from my house.
With this fact in mind, he suggested the 10 MW to 10 watt FM transmitter for
about $100 more then the one that was discussed on this list which goes for
$345.
Dave also told me that I can turn the power up when I need it, and turn the
power back down when I don't need it anymore.

So I mite be getting this one real soon!
Thinks for all the helpful tips!
My best regards.
 John.

How deep are your pockets? I would think that Dave will have to do a
fair amont of modification to the circuit in order to accomodate

works in a new case! You will have to weigh the options on this one!

2010-06-30 Thread Bob Seed
Well, in that case I say go for the mor powerful larger unit for the small
difference in price , you won't be disappointed! Even Dave is pleased with
the unit that he purchased, and said that by removing the rubber ducky, and
hooking up the unit to an external antenna the sky is the limit! Keep the
power very low, otherwise you will have the FCC coming after you! 10 watts
is a lot of power that could easily cover an average city! were I live we
have a 1.3 watt tourist information radio station, and although it is hard
to pick up I can receive the signal loud and clear, and the station is about
two miles from my home! I think that I saw a 3 watt unit in his lineup of
low-power transmitters as well.

2010-06-30 Thread hank smith
of the Veronica FM transmitter. I am
considering the
purchase of a used one. From its description, it sounds as
if it has
analog frequency adjustment, and I prefer to buy one which
is phase
lock loop.

Three other questions if I may. Is there a pot on the
transmitter
which allows one to match the output from the source to the
transmitter? Second, will this unit work in conjunction
with a whip
antenna, or must it be connected to a roof top antenna?
Lastly, are
its input connectors RCA or 3.5 mm.?

Thanks for feedback.

Accessible HD Radio

2010-06-30 Thread Dave Marthouse
Hi Gang,

I got the message below from the blind hams list. As this has to do with an
accessible broadcast HD radio I thought I'd post it here.

Dave

Several months ago, someone on this list asked about an accessible HD
Radio.

I replied that such a unit was on the horizon, but that I could not
disclose what I knew about it at the time. That was because I was part
of a volunteer advisory team from the International Association of
Audio Information Services, IAAIS, the organization of radio reading
service professionals, which was working with Dice Electronics toward
the release of this receiver.

Below is information about the iTR-100A Vision Free HD Radio from the
Dice Electronics Website:

This unit began shipping last week, but I strongly suspect quantities
are limited.

Important Notes:

1. The accessible model is the iTR-100A.

2. The receiver also works for AM HD, although the information below
doesn't mention that fact.

3. The radio reading service feature referenced below is *not the 67
or 92 KHZ analogue FM sub-carrier. It is a new digital authorization
scheme to instruct an HD receiver to receive a digital Radio Reading
Service signal. All I can say about this feature is that it will be
tested in selected radio reading service stations soon.

You will find the information which appears below my signature, along
with accessible downloadable documentation, and ordering information
for the radio in the iTR-100A link near the top of the Dice
Electronics website.

http://www.diceelectronics.com

Mike Duke, K5XU, Director,
Radio Reading Service of Mississippi

Based on the popular DICE iTR-100 tabletop HD Radio(tm), this unit was
designed with special consideration for the visually impaired.
Practical voice prompts
and audible feedback have been added which makes operating the
iTR-100A simple and intuitive.

Each button press is followed by an audio queue to help guide the user
through actions such as station browsing or setting up the alarm
clock. All buttons
and knobs are arranged and spaced apart with ease of use in mind. The
compact size of the unit makes it easy to enjoy the enhanced
noise-free sound quality
of HD Radio or RRS (Radio Reading Service) at home or in your office.

iTR-100A Vision Free HD Radio Features

Audio Feedback: Voice announcements are made to guide the user through
each button press. Radio station information, time and settings are
all assisted
by vocal queues.

RRS Capable: Register the radio's serial number with a local Radio
Reading Service provider to access the RRS content.

Alarm Clock: Announces the current time on wake and begins to play
preset radio station.

Access to Multicast Channels: Access more content with HD Radio's
Multicast channels. These are HD2 and HD3 channels found on HD Radio
frequencies.

Winamp 5.58

I've just installed winamp 5.58 on a machine using what I suppose to be the

skin. Is there a way to give 5.58 the classic feel: or am I forced to go

2010-06-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

High Dave,
What media player are you using to play this file?
Windows Media Player sometimes has problems playing those files.
If you have Winamp on your computer, try playing the file in it to see if it
gives you audio.

My best regards.

Re: Veronica FM transmitter

2010-06-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

High Bob,
The highest I'll ever turn it up, is about 5 or 6 watts.
I will use the rubber ducky antenna for now, because that's all I need.
I don't think I should have any problem picking my music upon a portable
stereo receiver at the park at all!
But I'll find out when I get it and set it up, I'll keep you all posted on
how well it works for me.

My best regards.

Well, in that case I say go for the mor powerful larger unit for the small
difference in price , you won't be disappointed! Even Dave is pleased with
the unit that he purchased, and said that by removing the rubber ducky,
and hooking up the unit to an external antenna the sky is the limit! Keep
the power very low, otherwise you will have the FCC coming after you! 10
watts is a lot of power that could easily cover an average city! were I
live we have a 1.3 watt tourist information radio station, and although it
is hard to pick up I can receive the signal loud and clear, and the
station is about two miles from my home! I think that I saw a 3 watt unit
in his lineup of low-power transmitters as well.

Hello Bob,
Dave did call me back.
He told me that I could put a buffer amplifier that has vacuum tubes in
it

between the transmitter and the mixer.
I told hem that I'd like to hear whatever I got playing on the computer
or

what I have dialed upon the satellite dish receiver.
But however, I want to be able to pick it upon a portable stereo like a
boom
box whenever I take a short walk to the park which is way less then a
mile from my house.
With this fact in mind, he suggested the 10 MW to 10 watt FM transmitter
for about $100 more then the one that was discussed on this list which
goes for $345.
Dave also told me that I can turn the power up when I need it, and turn
the power back down when I don't need it anymore.

So I mite be getting this one real soon!
Thinks for all the helpful tips!
My best regards.
 John.

How deep are your pockets? I would think that Dave will have to do a
fair amont of modification to the circuit in order to accomodate
tubes! He will have to mount the circuit board and tube sockets on a
newly designed chassis, and will probably have to house the internal
works in a new case! You will have to weigh the options on this one!

Can he replace those buttons with knobs?
And is there some kind of digital read out window that you have to
read?
If so, that won't work for me because I can't see it.
When it comes to audio, I like vacuum tubes in the audio signal
path..
Can he put in a pare of 12AX7/ECC83 tubes for me?

You don't have

Winamp 5.57 problem

2010-06-30 Thread Donald L. Roberts
I have posted this problem in the past but have not found a solution.

I am presently using Winamp 5.57 although the below problem has been
present with the more recent versions of Winamp, not just 5.57.

None of the recent versions of Winamp will play .wav files on this XP
home system. I just tested several .wav files, all of which would
play using Studio Recorder, GoldWave, or Total Recorder. I haven't
checked Windows Media player.

I sure would appreciate knowing the solution to this problem. Thanks
in advance for ideas.

Re: Archived Eddy Stubbs programs

2010-06-30 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello Don and anyone else interested: As far as I can tell, there are no
Eddie Stubbs programs archived! In fact, I would guess that..even if
there were some, it'd be hard to access them easily! I've written to WSM
about this..but so far, they don't seem to be doing anything about this
problem! Currently, if you go to the WSM archived page; then click on the
appropriate thing, you get a player; this player (to me anyhow..and I'm
running Jaws 11)..really doesn't give you much of a way to tell which
program you're dealing with! I have been able to click programs..using the
mouse. But is hard to tell which program I'm clicking! Sorry if this is a
bit off-topic! But Don..you've got me started now--GRRR!

Re: Winamp 5.57 problem

2010-06-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Hello Don,
This should fix the problem.
Have one of your files highlighted by having the curser pointing at it.
Hit the application key and scroll up to properties.
Tab over to the change button.
It should give you a choice of programs to open it with.
If Winamp is on the list, then have the curser to highlight that one.
Tab over to the apply button and hit inter.
Then tab over to the ok button, and there you are, the files should play in
Winamp now.
The other thing you mite want to check out, is how you have things sat in
the file types.

If the wav file type is unchecked, then check it by hitting the space bar.
Hope this helps.
My best regards.
