Re: tapin radio yet again

2011-08-30 Thread Vítek
Hi list,

1. the search field in the main window is also accessible through e shortcut
just like the browser.

2. Add to faves dialogue can be brought up pressing F5 as somebody has
mentioned here.

3. Window Eyes screen reader has some kind of problems with QT4 support as well
as older Jaws screen reader versions. These are paid software therefore we do
not provide any full support unlike NVDA being a donationware platform just
like we are, however, we certainly will be glad for any of you leaving a
message regarding their technical support. The more people ask the more
pressure will be put on them at this matter. As for Window Eyes I know of the
QT support but it's been developed generally not taking TR in account as its
priority which means that not every single function or option is handled
correctly. The known issue is no audio feedback when editing edit fields
contents etc. It sure would be worth contacting QT developer asking him to try
making some aments in it if he feels inclined to do so. We tried our best to
get any contact to him with absolutely no success though.

4. As far as the scheduling concerns we discussed it a little with Tom and
since it looks like a local problem I don't seem to be able to help with I've
asked him to address this problem directly to Raimersoft support managed by
Phil Oldaker so I firmly hope it can be solved with further assistance. If not
Tom try out the quick scheduling as you've got the two options - advanced and
quick one. The disadvantage of this is you must have TR on all the time until
it gets started as opposed to the advancet scheduling.

5. Regarding sound devices TR is supposed to have the default one or at least
it's never encountered any complications with that.

I guess I haven't forgotten any question discussed. We already have 4633 US
stations 689 British stations and generally TR has now over 18500 stations. In
case you miss out any of your favorite one be sure to submit it in
menu/help/Suggest a station dialogue with all information required.

The best thing I can tell you is to go through the menus (sometimes a
given item will tell you the shortcut key) for example, I can tell you
that to get to the favorites list, the shortcut key is alt-a. When
you first open Tapin Radio it'll say edit (this is where you type
in a station that you may be looking for) then tab once and you'll see
the list of results it has found! Enter on the one you want and the
station should begin to play! If, in the future, you want to find that
station again, while the station is still playing, go to favorites
as described earlier and the first thing is add to favorites. Once

Hey Dave and others,

I'm afraid there's no way of doing so for massive stealing huge parts of our
database from users of another Internet radio player so we were forced to drop
a line making this option unavailable in a standard way. The unconventional way
of doing this is the one you've mentioned. I concede it's being rather

know the stream URL unless they want to report a failed station including an

Hi,

1. No from what I know TR has absolutely no limitation of amounts of track
recorded its an eternal process until the hard drive is full or a connection
gets cut off:). But would you please write a title of that radio for me to give
it a shot reproducing the process?

2. Regarding the scheduler, Tom have you tried the quick scheduler with TR on
until the action gets started? To my knowledge TR has no dependency on system
requirements be it XP Vista or Seven 32 and 64-bit version. To tell the truth
some users do have to put up with taskscheduler problems thus Phil developed
the quick scheduler options not being reliable on the scheduler the system
primarily uses for this and other tasks such as defrag and rest of cleaning or
maintaining processes mostly having something to do with the system needs.

I guess I haven't forgotten any question discussed. We already have 4633

it in menu/help/Suggest a station dialogue with all information required.

Hey Dave and others,

I'm afraid there's no way of doing so for massive stealing huge parts of our
database from users of another Internet radio player so we were forced to
drop a line making this option unavailable in a standard way. The
unconventional way of doing this is the one you've mentioned. I concede it's

Hello,

TapinRadio uses the Windows Task Scheduler which is part of Windows.

It look as if the WTS service was unable to start.

Try Googling for Task Scheduler and Service which should give you more
information.

 Hey Dave and others,

I'm afraid there's no way of doing so for massive stealing huge parts of our
database from users of another Internet radio player so we were forced to
drop a line making this option unavailable in a standard way. The
unconventional way of doing this is the one you've mentioned. I concede it's
being rather cumbersome but we had no choice. Beyond that most of the users
don't need to know the stream URL unless they want to report a failed

2011-08-30 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hi Chris and list: Okay I went to something that says administrative tools
(I'm assuming this is where you're pointing me to) I went from there to
something called services found task scheduler and..guess what? It tells
me automatic local! So this says to me that the task scheduler is working!
However, Tapin Radio tells me it's not; go figure! As far as the suggestion
of going to reg-edit: I know when something is out of my league and
unfortunately, I'm not comfortable with going there as I don't wish to
permanently mess something up! But if there's yet something else I can do,
please let me know!

Thanks,

I haven't been following this thread, and I don't have Windows up and
running at the moment, so I apologize if I'[m just wasting everyone's
time, but could it just be that the task scheduling service in Windows
has been shut down? Have you done any Windows tuning and turned off any
services you don't think you need? I'd suggest going into your control
panel and looking for administrative services. There should be something
there related to task scheduling (I'd check the names and the
descriptions.) and then make sure they're set to automatic or manual.

Hi,

1. No from what I know TR has absolutely no limitation of amounts of track
recorded its an eternal process until the hard drive is full or a
connection

gets cut off:). But would you please write a title of that radio for me to
give it a shot reproducing the process?

2. Regarding the scheduler, Tom have you tried the quick scheduler with TR
on until the action gets started? To my knowledge TR has no dependency on
system requirements be it XP Vista or Seven 32 and 64-bit version. To tell
the truth some users do have to put up with taskscheduler problems thus
Phil

Hello Tom,

Well this is really not a TR problem and if there is something wrong with
your Windows installation then it is for you to fix it.

But there is one thing you can try.

Go to the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and go to the the Services
tab.

Look for Schedule-Task Scheduler and right click on it and select
Start Process and see if
that makes any difference.

If it does you will need to make sure it runs automatically at start
up (click on the Services button).

Philip

Re: looking for the right laptop for my dj business

2011-08-30 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Well, I'm no DJ, but I recently bought a few laptops for myself and my
sons, and I did notice that the high end laptops are pretty tricked out
with some nice audio enhancements. There's the HP Envy Beets Edition for
example. There are tons of reviews you can get to with Google. The Asus
N55 and Dell XPS 15 both really tout their JVL sound system, so I'm
assuming they must be pretty good. I'm also guessing that Sony has a
pretty good Vio laptop in this space as well. Of course, I'm sure
MacBooks are also to die for!

I myself went with the Asus over the HP. A MacBook was a dark horse, but
I just didn't want to have to learn a new OS. I didn't really consider
Dell or Sony or any other brands because they didn't show up near the
top of the reviews I was looking at. I guess I would have considered a
Lenovo, but I just didn't see them offering what I was looking for.
Again, note I wasn't specifically looking for audio, and I'm no DJ.

500G and 640G hard drives are pretty standard in this space. I'm
guessing you want at least 4G of memory and probably would get a lot of
benefit from 8G. I'd also think an I5 processor would be the way to go,
but if you want even more horse power and performance then you could
also go with an I7, although this may cut into your battery life a bit.

You'll probably spend between $1000 and $1500 on such a laptop. The Asus
would be at the lower end and the HP at the higher end. Of course, a
MacBook would go way beyond that, but then you'd have a MacBook!

I'd recommend checking out different reviews. I usually stop at
consumersearch.com (although their site is a bit harder to navigate than
it used to be) and CNet.com. After checking out those sites, I start
googling to look for more reviews.

Sonar App for Window-Eyes now Available

2011-08-30 Thread Steve Pattison
GW Micro have just released an app to make Sonar work better with
Window-Eyes. The app is available on AppCentral at

https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1346

I don't use Sonar myself as I'm not a musician but I hope this may help
some people who are musicians and use Window-Eyes. The details are below.
-Steve.

Sonar Enhance supports Sonar X1, running on a system with a screen
resolution for 1024x768 or (preferably) greater. Typically, you'll have
the most success when using the default screenset, accessed by pressing
the number 1 while in the track view. Registry settings to enable Sonar
accessibility settings are enabled automatically.

The following list of keys provide enhancements of functionality when
using Sonar X1: B - Announces the Browser window I - Announces the
Inspector window Insert-F8 - Displays a list of available control bar
icons. Control-Alt-M - Speaks Peak Meter value. Windows-Alt-M - Toggles
auto speak Peak Meter changes. Control-T - Displays a dialog containing
a list of all visible tracks. Control-Alt-C - Displays a dialog
containing a list of all visible audio clips. Control-Alt-Shift-C -
Displays a dialog containing a list of properties for the selected track.
Control-Alt-B - Switches to the media browser. Control-Alt-P - Switches
to the plugin browser. Control-Alt-S - Switches to the synth rack. The
Now Time is announced when movement keys such as Control-Page Up,
Control-Page Down, Tab, and Shift-Tab are used. Comma, Shift-Comma, and
Control-Shift-Comma all announce whether the current track is selected
or not.

give it a full thumbs up as it's not doing (at least for me) everything
that is advertised that it can do!

Yeh, that's where I was thinking. Sorry I didn't do a better job of
explaining it, but I'm glad you found it. I'm disappointed it didn't
work. I was thinking I was really on to something. Note that the only
reason I thought of that is because I've made the same mistake myself
once. I turned off some service that kept Windows Update from working,
but it took me forever to realize it was something I'd done a while ago
and wasn't a bug somewhere. The only other thought I had along the same
lines is maybe it's also tied up with another service. Maybe the Tapin
Radio guys can let you know if that's the case.

Just tried the quick Schedule thing; no soap (still get the message
 the
task scheduler is not in service or it may have said not running) aside
from that, not sure if I put the amount of time I wanted it to record in
correctly; I think I still have the email I received from Phil,
 suggesting
that I google it; this is where he indicated that the Scheduler in
 Tapin
Radio works with the windows task scheduler! If I can find it, I will
forward Phil's response to the list.

 Hi,

 1. No from what I know TR has absolutely no limitation of amounts of
 track
recorded its an eternal process until the hard drive is full or a
 connection
 gets cut off:). But

2011-08-30 Thread Tom Kaufman
Nope! Afraid this is the only computer I have! But I have emailed my tech
(he lives pretty close to me) so maybe he can figure out what's going on
here; Phil actually did send me a link to check out (I looked at it) but the
instructions seem to be for sighted computer users; I may have another look
at that; it could be that I can work around it! Thanks all for sticking
with me on this as I know some of you may be getting tired of my whining!

Hi Tom and list,

OK about the registers. What Phil has written sounds quite logical so this
isn't working too? If not then it's a real pain but wouldn't you happen to
have another computer or a laptop to try this out on?

Hello Christopher: Well as you will see (when the email comes in) I've once
again written to Phil; he basically told me that it's up to me; that it's
not a TR problem! Am starting to get really frustrated as I'm trying to
fix it (as he told me) but I keep hitting dead ends! This just
shouldn't be such a difficult problem to solve! I'd gladly advertise the

2011-08-30 Thread Tom Kaufman
I did try one more thing just a few minutes ago: I went back to services
then to task scheduler then tabbed to where it says start the service (I
thought I had hit the jackpot, for it said windows is attempting to start
the service. Oh but then a dialog popped up, presenting me with an error
message that said something like service could not be started; interface
unknown! I cannot believe that it is impossible for me to run the
scheduler for Tapin Radio on this machine; there's just no reason that I see
for this!
