help with an audio problem
Hi My dad has problems hearing the tv, he has just got a set of bluetooth headphones but he doesn't want to use the 3.5 ml jack on the back of the tv, he would rather use the phono connections on the tv but there are 5 connections but according to the tv manual they are only for receiving audio and not transmitting audio. We have tried using them but the sound from the tv doesn't come through the audio part of the 5 set of phono connections. According to the manual you have to use a pair of two plugs plus a set of 3 but they are not audio out. If we plug the headphones in the rear of the satellite box, the headphones work perfectly but he cannot get the sound from the dvd through the satellite, only through the tv. The dvd doesn't have a scart connection on it, only hdmi. The satellite doesn't have a hdmi connection only scart and one pair of phono connectors. We have looked at hdmi to scart converters, they are very expensive. On my own tv setup I have the tv and dvd connected to the satellite and I am able to hear everything through my surround system. According to the questions and answers concerning the particular headphones the senheizer rs170, you can get a special adapter that creates another 3.5 ml connection on the rear of the tv but I know little about this kind of thing. Dad doesn't want to have to keep unplugging the headphones from the tv, plus if we all want to listen to the tv, it won't be possible without several sets of headphones, what is the best way around this please? Dad is insisting on using the phono connections. Help!! Regards Adrien

He specifically would like some like the old stefascope design but I have not seen these in a long time. Again they must be wifi and not cable as it would not be practical, on amazon there are loads, it is hard to know what to look for. This is a tentative inquiry regarding this voice recorder. I bought it around 2-2.5 years ago but apart from a day or two of investigation I have never used the machine. I took the battery from the player and stored it all away for 2 and a half years or more. My interest has once more been rekindled but after replacing the battery, putting it on charge over night for around 8 hours I'm a little confused. When attached to a mains outlet and I then turn on the player I get the start tone and I can using the voice guidance navigate through the folders. Of course as it hasn't been used there is nothing in the folders but the voice guidance does work. However if I disconnect the player from the mains and again turn it on, I once more get the start up tone but around 3 or 4 seconds later I get 3 quick beeps but the voice guidance doesn't work as when it is attached to the mains. I at first thought the battery isn't charging but if that were the case then it wouldn't start and I wouldn't get the start tone so the player must be getting power from the battery. Unfortunately I will have no sighted help until Friday to see what is on the screen but if anybody can tell me what the 3 quick beeps mean and if it is a problem what can I do about it. Hope you can help but if you do need more info, I'll try and get that on Friday. Walter. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! The debate then was whether or not to keep using Long Wave, those in favour of the Long Wave system pointed out the vast distances Long Wave could travel using Ground wave thus any signal received at the radio end was immune from the sort of effects that Sky Wave cause, you only have to listen to Short Wave broadcasts or broadcasts at the top end of the Medium Wave band to know what I'm talking about here. Those who were not in favour of the continuing use of the Long Wave Band pointed out that Long Wave was more seseptable to natural interference from thunderstorms activity and so on, in any case the use of the Long Wave band was given over to navigation beacons etc. On 7 Jun 2014, at 11:22 pm, brian sackrider wrote: > I use to have radio shaak dx400 radio and would tune leftof the am broadcast band from 150-540 or so and the only thing that I have ever heard on this band was those 3 letter cw becons and weather and this was on a long wire antanna and this was back in the 80's. So 2009 rolled on and we came to December 9 when I took delivery of an iPhone 3GS and this proved to be an eye opener. Not only did the speaker of this device sound ten times as good, the device had 100 times the functionality of the VR Stream as I was soon to discover. Now yes, the VR Stream is a Daisy/Audio player but the iPhone did all that soon and it wasn't long before I started using the iPhone to play Daisy Books and so forth with, not only that I had the benefits - even then - of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology so I could stream my material and even listen to Internet Radio stations in much the same way as those who use the current generation of the VR Stream do so really, the VR Stream is offering absolutely nothing that we don't already have if we choose to look around. Hi Brian Absolutely, the stream is great, it suits my needs, I have the plextalk pocket too but that hardly gets as much use as the stream, but they are both very good gadgets. RE: Different Roads For Humanware and Hims Inc
Hi Dane Yes totally agree with you, again this is why they had to bring out the new stream to offer more facilities otherwise again more and more people would have abandoned ship in favour of the iphone. I like the stream because it is easy for me to use and offers enough for me but also because I cannot cope with touch screens, but that is a different matter. The speaker on the new stream isn't great but is better in some ways than the old speaker but they could offer some more facilities. I have seen a few I devices and I think most of them are touch screen and this is the one thing that is holding me back, I know there are ways around this but a keyboard would have been better for me personally. RE: Different Roads For Humanware and Hims Inc
Hi Dane Yes I see where you are coming from, I don't have much use for bluetooth regarding an mp3 or daisy player such as the vr stream but to have built in bluetooth for earphones would have been nice, I was one who requested it but I think I was in a minority. I do use bluetooth on my mobile phones, for pairing the phones etc and have unsuccessfully tried to link a bluetooth keyboard but have ordered a different one so don't give up that easily. I think humanware should give us the choice, whether they will incorporate bluetooth into a future product is anyone's guess, they will have to do something good otherwise they will lose out to the market again, when the vr stream was first released there was not many similar players but now you have many more and some of them are better in their own way but it depends on what you require. I didn't know that a survey was done so thanks for pointing this out. I can see how a lot of people wouldn't have rated Bluetooth as being critical to them but really that does illustrate more than anything to me just how Human Beware actually work, that company doesn't really want to market to people in the real world it seems. For example, those of us who have been using mobile phones over the last 10 years now take Bluetooth for granted thus we buy the appropriate equipment such as speakers, hands free kits, keyboards, headphones and the like to take full advantage of it. Hims Inc obviously want to market their products far and wide to help those who need good accessibility live as independent life as is possible and - wherever possible - integrate into a full working environment and use - wherever possible - all the tools that are available in the mainstream. I don't have any problems with the approach that Human Beware takes but its not what I want, I want to move ahead and make things as smooth and as uncomplicated as is possible whereas - with the other approach Human Beware takes - doing surveys and just making products specific to survey needs for their blind clients - means some isolation from the real world of changing technology, again its up to the user what road he/she chooses to travel. Hi Dane I don't know if you know, last year sometime humanware did a survey of what the users of the vr stream wanted, I think there was more demand for wifi than bluetooth, I think bluetooth would mean another hardware up-grade, I am not sure. I think bluetooth would have been great but as we can use an adapter for listening to bluetooth earphones, it is not much of a problem, not for me in any case. The features of the two devices are similar, or probably will be, after the Blaze EZ is upgraded a few times. The major difference is that the Blaze EZ has OCR, which is the reason for the big price tag. Some procedures on the Blaze EZ won't be so easy to perform due to the lack of a numeric keyboard. All input will be by selecting letters, numbers and symbols from a grid. Well, I guess you only need to enter your network password once. Hi Peter I agree with you, I don't like touch screens, I much prefer proper buttons, I will be watching to see how this gadget develops. Hi Evan and don These aren't toolbars that switch installs when you install the program but say you are converting a folder with many files in it and some of them are avi, some are mp3 and you are converting avi to mp3 and then lowering the bit rate of the mp3 files, switch seems to pick and install different converters as it goes along, it will use different converters for different file types. RE: Good Headsets To Use With Skype Etc
Hi I have been looking at usb microphones, amazon doesn't have many, I use skype all the time now as my main phone system, I need the pc speakers but either a usb mike or headset with mike would be useful, is there a way for windows to automatically switch between the two without my disconnecting the usb set? Regards Adrien -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane Trethowan Sent: Saturday, February 08, 2014 4:58 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Good Headsets To Use With Skype Etc One of my favourite headsets for Skype and similar applications is the Plantronics Audio 478 Headset, I've had my original pair for 2 years and I just bought another. This headset is completely portable coming in its own travel bag, portable it may be but its durable enough to sit on your desk and be used as a main headset for your desktop computer. The headset is a stereo type with quite good sound for the money but certainly not audiophile sound as one would find with something like the Grado SR60I headphones but quite acceptable for Skype and everyday listening. The Audio 478 headset is an on the ear type thus you can hear what's going on around you. The headset employs DSP technology for noise cancelation and signal processing. The microphone of the Audio 478 rotates downwards from the left and can be adjusted once lowered. For a headset of this price the microphone sounds very nice and doesn't exhibit the quality of talking through your nose type sound that some microphones do on these sorts of headsets, I had terrible trouble with a logitech pair in this regard. An inline control panel provides volume, mute and answer/hangup buttons, these buttons can be manipulated through the Plantronics Audio 478 control panel which is a downloadable add-in to Windows, you can customise what the buttons do, a plugin is also available for Skype to allow Skype to take advantage of the answer/hangup capabilities of the Audio 478. The headset is a USB type and the cable is fairly rugged, again a great plus for this headset over the older Logitech pair I owned whose cable started curling and perishing after a very short period of time. The Plantronics Audio 478 in my view is very reasonably priced, I paid $65.00 for my new pair and $70.00 2 years ago when I bought my original pair so the price hasn't changed all that much. The price I paid is in Australia dollars so people living in the U.S. will probably pay quite a bit less. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954

Try opening the command line (Windows+r) type mmsys.cpl and go to the "recording" card further tab once in order to get to the dropdown list choosing the microphone then tab to the properties hitting enter on it and try setting the microphone volume such as its volume channels left/right etc. If it fails then right in Skype go to menu -> tools -> settings -> sound devices card and when hitting the tab key once you'll get to the dropdown list with options to choose from and one of them is microphone. You also have an option "set microphone automatically as a default" or something like that in the sound devices card. You need to know what sound card you have to attach the mike with that. It requires sort of experimenting I'd say b/c I've also had these troubles sometimes ago having to set the microphone as a default device as you go further in this card in Skype where you have to fiddle with the up/down buttons which is quite complicatet to learn and orientate in at the first sight. Questions about audio books
Hi I have given my friend some audio books to try, he can't get on with mp3 players, he will be playing the books on his computer. If he stops a book after 10 minutes for example, which of the most popular audio programs, windows media, vlc, winamp or any others will allow you to set a book mark? Peter my friend isn't computer literate so it needs to be as simple as possible. I don't have this problem as I use my victor stream or speakon or easyreader. My friend is sighted but is having problems with his hearing so as this is an experiment I would like to know what is the best way to help him. Hi I am sure it is set on mp3 as that is one of the first things I checked, I use the files on my victor stream so it is important to get it in the right format. Keep you posted. Then you determine the bit rate along with lots of other peramaters. Hi Joe Firstly, I have written to poikasoft. Anyway, when I rip a cd, it is creating very small files, they may be 5 mb in total, I am getting the sound when the cd has been ripped, it may 118 mb if I rip the cd with wmp but with easy cd extracter I am only getting 5 mb. Very strange. The files are playable. Hi garry It isn't easy creator but easy cd/dvd extracter by poikasoft, totally different from roxio cd creator, like you I haven't used that for at least 8 or 9 years for the very same reasons you mentioned. I have roxio creator on here and that is quite easy to use. Help with a program please
Hi Apologies if this message has been read but I think I am having problems sending to some lists. I use easy cd creator 15 to rip my cds, it is only giving me about 5 mb of the total size of the cd, at first it was trying to create a disk image but I fiddled with the settings, it is still the same, if I rip the cd with windows media player, it is about 118 mb, a big difference. What is going on here? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no joy. I have a full license, it is activated as far as I know. I use the same software on my xp machine, that works ok. I recently installed roxio creator 12, I wonder if they are conflicting? I also have cdx installed. I am using windows 7 home premium. I meant to say that all the files are being ripped, or if there are 6 tracks on the cd, there are 6 files on the folder created by easy cd creator. I have just played the first files, they seem to be playable, not sure how much data there is, the whole folder has about 6 files in it, but it is far smaller than the one created by wmp, I have never had this before. The magazine lasts about an hour normally. Not sure what else I can tell you. What am I doing wrong? Some questions
Hi I have two questions for you, Firstly, is there a version of quick mix which works with windows 7? Secondly, how do I put the windows media player icons in the context menu like with winamp and easy cd creater, they are visable if I select an mp3 file or cd and select open with but not other wise. I can select to open the file or cd with windows media player but there is no option to play with wmp.
