Getting Winamp to Play files when set to default in Win 7

2015-06-30 Thread paul hutson
Hi all again.

Well, I was able to make Winamp my default player in Windows 7. However,
when I bring up a music file folder and hit enter on a song, the song
doesn't start playing. I have to hit the Applications key and select
Play in Winamp to get the song to start.

I have selected all file types in Winamp, I have unselected all file types
in WMP in the Windows 7 default settings in Control panel and selected all
file types for Winamp in the default program settings in the control panel.
Am I missing something here?

Please let me know and as always thanks in advance for any help you all can
give me and take care.Paul

Making Winamp Default Player in Windows 7?

2015-06-25 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi all.

Is this possible?
I have pressed the play all file types button and checked the check box to
make Winamp default for audio CD's but alas, WMP is still my default media
player.
Any help or ideas would be REALLY appreciated and thanks in advance...Paul

I don't think this is going to work on your iPhone. The NFL's AudioPass
requires flash, and I believe FieldPass does as well. There is no flash
support in the iPhone or any mobile device that I'm aware of. The NFL
also has an exclusive deal with Verizon, so if you have your iPhone
through Verizon, you may be able to use their app, but I don't know how
accessible it is.

I bought an app for my iPhone called All Football Radio which includes
both college and NFL games. This thing cost me all of $1.99 U.S.
However, be aware that sometimes you have to check several stations in
order to find the pro feed you want. Thus far, there has not been a
game for which I did not find a feed although it may not be the team
feed which you prefer.

Check out billsparks.org! I was able to listen to WMBI from there.

I found it by typing the call letters in to the search box, and was provided

The first one gives you the option to listen to WMBI Live:! The second one
gives you the option to Listen live with your pda/smart phone or stand alone

 Subject: What's Happened To WMBI?

 Hi all.

I am trying to listen to the live audio stream for WMBI in Chicago and not
able to any more. It use to be when I logged into the stream the
programming would automatically start but not the case any more. I tried
playing with the controls but no joy, just couldn't get the stream to
 play.
Anybody have any ideas, anybody able to get the stream to play? PLEASE
 let
me know? Thanks in advance for ANY assistance...Paul

Ps, the link is pasted below:

MP3 Tagger Help/Tutorials?

Hi all.

I recently downloaded MP3 Tagger but having MUCH trouble figuring out how
to get started tagging songs. There NO help screens or tutorials within the
program itself and after looking at the web site where I downloaded the
program I can find no FAQ's or any help links.

Any help or info would be REALLY appreciated since I have a lot of songs to
tag in a VERY short period of time. Thanks all in advance.

Hi Bob. I think you can go through the options dialogue and
 uncheck
the box which is defaulted to cross fading. If this option is
removed, tracks will not have their volumes faded at the end,
so
 you
shouldn't lose any vocals. However, I've only been using the
programme for a week or so, so maybe somebody more experienced
 will
  confirm or contradict this.

And, whilst I'm here, I have my own (more vague) Station
 Playlist
question. I'm using Studio Pro on a laptop with one soundcard
 and no
mixer. I've enabled my microphone, but either my microphone
 settings,
input/output settings or monitoring settings are faulty. When
I
toggle the mic on I can't hear anything in my headphones. When
 I
toggle the mic off again I hear my vocals for about half a
 second
before it goes quiet again. I know this is quite a
wide-ranging
question, but can anybody please advise on which setting might
 be
wrong? I've read the help information which relates to the
 settings
but I'm horribly confused with all of the input mixers and
 output
mixers etc (especially as I'm not using a mixer at all).

Sorry for the basic question, but any help will be appreciated.

from

and then go down until you come to Mix and press enter. 8.
You
 will now
land on the part where you decide at what point you want the

It starts with hours then minutes then seconds and finally
 fractions of

Well I'm not going to read a whole thread of email but the subject line
intrigues me, what has to be user friendly about a turntable? I've been
using them for nearly 40 years and in that time it hasn't caused me too
much

of a strain to put the needle on the old long playing record so given all
that why can't people do that now.

And in any case, why buy a USB turntable? Most of the older models and a
lot
of the newer models are far better than some of those USB cheap things
I've

seen, plastic tone arms for one thing so really again, if you're serious
about putting record to computer then buy a proper turntable that plugs
into
an amp, you can get preempts if you need them for your sound card and
then?

Well go your hardest with your favorite audio sampling software.

So what am I missing here? User friendly turntables, next we'll be
looking
for user-friendly light switches, user-friendly food plates and bowls
etc.

RE: NFL Audio Pass

2010-09-12 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi Chris and anyone interested.

I have pasted below part of a message that I received from the NFL pass tech
support people and there is a link you can use to get the games.
Please note: even though you are using the low band width link you will in
most cases get the same quality you would get from launching the
application. Hope you enjoy...Paul

Paul,

To go directly to the Audio Pass page and bypass the registration, please
navigate to the following URL:

https://audiopass.nfl.com/nflap/secure/loginform

Once you have signed in, rather than clicking Launch Application, click the
link that says Click Here for Low Bandwidth Version, which will launch a
text-based menu with links to the home and away radio feed for every live
and archived game.

But the tracks in these other play lists that I have, are tracks that I

Do those have to be edited in order for the cross fader in Winamp to work

Hello all list members,
Just as the tidal says, I wish to do tight cross fading in Winamp.
But here is the funny thing.
With one play list that I have, Winamp fades them real tight.
But all the other play list that I have, this doesn't happen.
Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thinks in advance.
My best regards.
 John.

here is what works for me very well. you go in to the preesets tab of the
configuration, and
choose radio, then press the load button, then locate the close button
at the bottom of the screen and left click it, then in cross fading
tab, move the signal analyze thing down to negative 15, and in the fade
on stop skip, check the box that says flush the buffer, then in the
advanced tab, uncheck the box that says cross fade tracks longer than,
and it should fade pretty close to the parameters of a radio station,
good luck.

That is not uncommon for these transmitters. Professional fm stations
have equipment to compress the sound before it gets to the transmitter
which makes it louder than it would otherwise be. The C. Crane cannot
possibly compete with that.

Goldwave Registration Problem!

2009-12-09 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi all.

Well, I am trying to register the latest version of Goldwave and it seems that
no matter what I do I just keep getting an error message after trying to enter
the user id and license info into the boxes and pressing the OK button. I've
tried EVERY way that I can think of including holding the shift key down when
entering the letters because acording to my Jaws, the letters are upper case
and some of the letters can't be entered this way for some reason. I have also
tried turning capslock on but to no avail. I also tried to copy and paste
the letters and numbers from the email itself but again, NO joy. I do NOT have
sighted help available so I'm hoping I didn't waste $20 for the license. If
any of you know of a trick to get the numbers/letters enter correctly I would
REALY appreciate it cuz I'm going CRAZY trying to figure this out and
thanks SO much in advance.

Warmest holiday regards,
Paul

Can't Listen To When Radio Was Streams Any More Was Re: What program plays or converts mp4 files

2009-11-16 Thread Paul Hutson

Hi listers.

Before I switched from IE7 to IE8 I was able to listen to the When
Radio Was Windows Media streams. However, now, using IE8 when I try to
access the listen links I just get the Internet Explorer cannot display
the web page message. Also, I don't get a clew about what's happening or
what's NOT happening to try to troubleshoot this problem. Has anybody else
had this problem and if so, were you able to solve it and if so, How?

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated and thanks VERY much in advance.

I know of a bug where installing windows live essentials under Windows 7
made that happen, and maybe its true under Vista as well, otherwise I
have no clue, but you can still do it, just right click, go into
properties, find the URL and copy to clipboard and open in windows media

I just signed up for a new season of the NFL's Field Pass. This
subscription
allows you to listen to all of the radio broadcasts via the internet of
the

upcoming NFL season (depending on the package you purchase). I noticed a
couple of changes this season.

First, it looks like it's now using an embedded flash based player, which
is
totally inaccessible. I don't see anything in the browser window at all,
but

I am able to listen to the broadcast. In years past, you've been able to
select WMP or Real, and I've been able to use the Winamp with the WMP
stream. This allowed me to control the player and do things like pause the
broadcast, lower the volume and so on. None of this seems possible in the
new player. Note that you can still navigate through the web pages to find
the stream you want to listen to, i.e. the Dolphins broadcast of the
Monday

night preseason game between the Dolphins and the Jaguars. It's just that
once you've selected the appropriate stream, you're now stuck in an
inaccessible media player.

There also doesn't seem to be the 7 day trial period that there's been in
the past. I always took advantage of this 7 day free trial to ensure
everything was accessible. This year, I had to take it on faith, and
unfortunately I was disappointed. I don't plan on asking for my money
back,

but I did follow the contact link and opened up a ticket with NFL Field
Pass.

I'm just letting everyone know my experience and wondering if anyone has
gotten around this limitation yet.

The way I get to the games is to go to the nfl.com web site and then click
on the Scores link. There will be a Listen link for any games in progress
or
in the future. For example, if you go there now, you'll see Listen links
for

the two Monday night games, but of course they won't do anything yet!

BTW, I also noticed that you now have to buy a separate package to get the
archives of games that have already finished. I don't have 100% recall,
but

I believe I could listen to archived games in the past, at least for the
current season.

Re: NCAA basketball game audio?

2008-03-21 Thread Paul Hutson
Well, first of all you must hit enter on the link that says launch the
video player. Then after that when the next page comes up then you arrow
down or tab until you hear video and then arrow down once more you should
then hear audio. Press enter on the audio. You will be on the same page
so you will not need to wait for any next page. Then you can arrow down
through the games and when you find the one you want you arrow down to a
graphic that says graphic, watch now then press enter. Even though the
graphic is not marked as a button or a link you hit enter on that graphic
and within roughly 30 seconds, you should hear the Westwood one feed of that
game you want.

Converting .mid Files To .MP3 Files?

2008-02-20 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi listers.

Does anybody know where I can get a quick and dirty freeware program to do
this? I am needing this ASAP because I have someone with a .mid file that
needs to be converted to .MP3 PRONTO! I tried downloading bestmidi2mp3 but
the file I need to convert is too big for the trial version. The .mid file is
only 9KB. Also, Winamp will NOT convert .mid files.
Thanks for any help in advance.

There is a peace of software that you can get to accomplish that task.
It is called, Switch Audio File Converter.

 Hi Paul,

You can download the plug-in from
www.winamp.com/plugins/download/95237. this is a direct link to the
.EXE file. The reason you weren't finding this plug-in using Google
 is because the spelling of the plug-in is O C T I M A X. I hope this

Re: WinAmp and Window-Eyes question

2007-01-31 Thread Paul Hutson
Here's a portion of a message that maybe will help you. Pasted below.
HTH,
Paul

This is really cool. Let's say that you use software speech and you want
to control the volume of Winamp without changing the volume of your
software synth.
While in winamp hit control+P to bring up the preferences and arrow up or
down to the output plugin prefernce. The Nullsoft waveout plugin should be
selected. Tab over to the configure button and press enter on it. Then
hit shift+tab a couple times until you hear a checkbox labeled alt
setting mode. This
will be unchecked by default. Check this box and click okay. Then tab
over to the close button and click on that. Now you can increase and
decrease
Winamp's volume with the up and down arrow keys without effecting the
volume of your software synth.

The only way I've found of doing this is by having multiple sound
devices installed onto your computer or to use a hardware voice
synthesizer, you've just highlighted the main reason why I'll keep
using hardware speech until death us do part smile.
Anyway getting back to the original point, if you have multiple sound
devices installed on your computer system you can direct Winamp to
play through one whilst Windows sounds, Window-Eyes etc are played
 through another.

the same volume no matter how I adjust Win

 Hi,

I know what the problem people are having is.

At least in my setup, I now get a button saying that that page wants to
 run
an active-x program on my computer, and there's an ok button.

Then it hangs a bit more and then lets' the page load.

I think this has to do with a windows update or maybe somehow a setting
 got
 changed in my system.

The link to become a new member is.

VIP Conduit is proud to announce the arrival of The VIP
Communicator.

Designed from the start with screen readers in mind, this new
conference

client is a delight to use. Installation is a snap and the sound
quality

in the chat rooms is a pleasure to listen to. The user has full
control

of the amount of

information they wish to receive by using the settings available
to

customize your preferences.

Like to play music in a room for your friends? How about a room
that
allows

them to hear your music in full Stereo.

There's no need to install a special program to allow you to
change
your

settings to play music. You may now set up the client to do this
with
a

couple of keystrokes, and in most cases the client will do this
for
you automatically. These are only a few of the many features you
will

find in this outstanding new client which we invite you to come
try
for

yourself. Our congratulations and appreciation go out to Barry
Jennings,

designer and developer of Vip Communicator without whose
ingenuity,
skill

and generosity this would not have been possible.

Please feel free to pass this on to other lists you may be on.

Hi everyone. To alert MLB of the problems associated with its
new-look gameday audio page, go here.
 http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/help/contact_us.jsp

Once their, find the help, contact us link. That will direct you to a
 page
where you can find a contact link. Please note that I attempted to get
 an
url for the contact page in order to cut out the first step, but both Jaws
and WindowEyes offered only the url for the help page. That is why I
directed you there. Moving on, once clicking on the contact link as
described above, you can email them from a form which is located toward
 the
bottom of the page. If you like, you can also phone Gameday Audio support
 after 9 A.m. eastern. Here's the number.
 1-866-800-1275

I have repeatedly attempted to phone them and each time I get a busy
 signal.
So if you want to go the phone route, you might want to pack a lunch
 first,
or at least pour yourself a coffee.

Sorry if all of this seems complicated. I've broken it down as much as I
can. Maybe someone else with a gift for simplification can do better.

I just called and got through fairly quickly. I did spend some time on
hold, but got somebody who e-mailed me a link for the visually
impaired. Apparently, only the road broadcast link is coming up on the
main page, when I use this link, I see both broadcast links, and the one
for the only game going on today, Chicago-Cleveland, I see both links and
get into the home broadcast. Here is the link they provided:

 http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mediacenter/index.jsp

As for the sound quality, having been through years of struggling to
 listen
to games on am radio with marginal signals, or on Armed Forces Radio,
 which
often wasn't much better, I'm thrilled with $14.95 for all broadcasts in a
form that is easy to hear.

You do not have to unload JAWS to get the game to work. Simply put
JAWS in sleep mode while the game is open and you can then keep JAWS
running while the game is on. To do this:
 1. Go to your config manager while the top speed 2 game is running.
 2. If you're using later versions of JAWS like 6 or 7, you may be
prompted to create a file for the program so simplyhit the ok button
and it'll be created for you.
 3. Now in the configuration manager, go to set options, followed by
 advanced...
 4. Check the checkbox that says, sleep mode enabled. and tab once
more and check the checkbox that says unload synthesizer. and then
press ok and save your changes. You will now be able to play the
game with JAWS running and everything will work just as it
should. Makes it a hell of a lot easier for contacting others while
a game is in session or if you're ready to play, you can tell people
 where you are.

At 12:22 AM 2/11/2006, you wrote:
I also have this program and me, i smash more theni win. i have to
unload jfw as well, the arrow keys won't work if i don't, now i hear
their are some extra bits to this game, is this so? and if so where
are they/ thank. At 06:09 PM 10/02/06 -0800, Paul Hutson said this:

Yes, it took me 2 tries to download the program because the first time I
only got about 160kb of the file so tried it again and was good to go.
Now, I've got to learn how to keep that BLASTED car on the track, haha.
Also, one tip that might also help is, turning off, or in my case,
completely unloading Jaws because otherwise, I just COULDN'T navigate
 the
 menus at all.
 Thanks for your help.

All I know is that. The size is important. Maybe it's in your connection.
 It
can be because of your firewall. Or simply a system error.

Check the size of the file. I think it's 7.something MB. So if you
don't get that, it's corrupted. All you have to do is to get another
 installer.

Normally on this list we chat about audio as it relates to music and
production but I'd like to chat about a new game that has recently
come out and that's taking the blind gaming community by storm. The
game is a Racing game and it's called Top Speed2. The idea is you
have your keyboard or a stearing wheel and you race around tracks.
The sound of the cars is most Realistic and there are plenty of ad
on cars and tracks. You also can either host a server for 7 of your
friends to play on or log in to a server that's being hosted. If
your in to sports you will most deffinately enjoy this one. You'll
play this game for hours. Now the cost you ask? Well the fine
developers in the Netherlands who wrote this game have decided to
give it away completely free of charge. You can go to:

 http://playinginthedark.net
and download the game and all the extra tracks and ad ons. Also you
can learn how to design your own racing cars and tracks and a few
blind people have already done this. Try this freeware game. I think
 you'll be most impressed.

Actually, the patch puts itself in the right place automatically and you
DON'T have to do anything except to just run the patch after you download
it.

There are numerous stations that stream Westwood One.
 You just have to hunt for them.  Some streams don't carry the games;
 others do.
I honestly haven't paid enough attention to the NFL this season to give a
listing; but my first point of starting would be WTEM, Washington, DC
which, if not carrying local play-by-play, streams seemingly everything
 from the on-air broadcast.

For a good target list of potential stations, visit the following

 www.thegamelive.com

and look for the national Football League page.
Near the bottom of that page will be a listing of Westwood One stations.
During a game, try these and see if they work.

Re: A station playlist question

Hi.

I have another question, how do you enter rotations? I am also using
Station Playlist Creator 3.02 and when I get to the Rotations tab then I
press Control-n and enter the rotation name and can't figure how how to save
that information. I am running Jaws 7.0 and Windows XP home.
Also, what do I put into the rotation information? I have looked at the
help sections but no joy.
Any info would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

When I go to create a new rotation and I tab over to where you actually
place the items for your rotation, it is becoming an issue.
I can arrow down toards the end of the hour, like anything from about 45
minutes past the hour on, goes out of focus.

Have you always run 3.02, or if not, can you remember exactly when it
started happening? Also, which JAWS are you using? 5? 6? 7?

 Hi Paul,
 Use Sound Recorder, found in:
 Start menu,Programs, Accessories under entertainment.
You have only got about 1 minute to make your recording, the first time,
 but
you can just append another recording to the first one to make a longer
 one.
If you need help with that, let me know.

I have tried sending a message to the OTSDJ list requesting this info but no

any pitfalls, landmines, or just tips and tricks about installing this program?

Quick question, where can I get the snowman scripts for OTS? Or, could you

Again, THANKS.

Most definitely. I and many others use it regularly for broadcasting.
I've been using it for my show on ACB Radio Interactive since I began
the show nearly 5 years ago.

If you use JAWS, I would strongly recommend the Snowman's scripts.

Daniel,

I think most main stream brands should work well. You don't
necessarily have to buy those formulated especially for music. Any old
data cd will work if you're creating from the computer..

I've used, TDK, Memorex, Fuji, Imation, Sony and many others.

You may want to decide if you want a spindle (without jewle cases) or a
stack with jewel cases, either thin or regular. If you get a spindle,
be aware that often the first and last disk are often a clear plastic
one for protection of the disks and does not record. It can freak one
out.

The next question will be, how to do cd covers or track listings? If
you get any good tips, let us all know. I haven't found a program with
which I am comfortable yet.

For most cd's, there is a slightly raised ring around the center hole
about an inch or less from the center. The side with that ridge goes
down.

In any case, one should be careful not to get fingerprints or to smudge
the surface of the disk.

If looking at the PC from the back, on my PC the Mic jack is the one next to
the

left of the speaker jack.
Make sure you go to the control pannel and then to sounds and audio devices,
then go to the audio tab, then tab to the round recording volume button and
hit

the enter key.
Tab till you come to Analog Microphone and adjust the volume to as high as
you
want it and then make sure you tab to the select check box and press the
space

bar to check this box.
Press ALT+P to take you to the properties and type X to exit this area.
Tab to OK and you are done.
Close the control pannell and you are ready to talk.

Hope this helps and if you have Skype test out your system and give me a
call.

Hi Paul,
If the soundblaster card has standard jacks,
Looking at the computer from the back, the arrangement should be as
follows.

from left to right.
1. midi port.
2. rear speakers.
3. front speakers.
4. microphone.
5. line-in.

 Paul and Kristen,
First of all, Winmx works pretty well even without scripts, though I do
appreciate the added functionality of the scripts. One tip if you decide
to
try without the scripts is that you might consider the verbosity option of
turning on foreground colors so that you can tell the state of your
uploads
and downloads. In other words, if a particular file is identified with
cyan, it means the file has been successfully/completely downloaded, green
means it is still in progress, red means it has stopped and is incomplete
 etc. Hope this helps.

Paul, I'm using JAWS 4.02 and Windows 98. For the most part I can use the
PC cursor except to enter on a download link or a context item within the
transfers window. I'm not sure how much this varies from system to system
or with OS or screenreader and version, but I am quite used to it and have
not found it to be a problem beyond the initial adjustment of learning the
program. I guess it depends on how comfortable folks are with the JAWS
cursor in general--in this instance I would not say the program is
 inaccessible for that reason.

 Susan

Thanks for the info Chrissie and all. However, I've got both my PCMCIA
slots filled, one has the network card for my internet and the other is
my
  modem.
Oh well, thanks again and I'll just keep lookin'. Thanks again.

Yes the Indigo is in fact multi-channel and you can, although it isn't
  easy
with screen reading software, adjust the individual input channels.

Why don't you get the Indigo Io pcmcia sound card. That way you can
 just
slide it into the pcmcia slot plug your speakers in and it is
amazing
  how
wonderful music sounds out of it.
You can get them from Dancing Dots at www.dancingdots.com
The only downside is that you have to remove it when you use flash
  cards
   or
a wireless modem notebook adapter.
Now as for whether its multi chanel I can't tell you that.

Subject: Dell Laptop And Compatible Sound Caards Question?

 Hi listers.

I am running a Dell Inspiron 5000 laptop computer with a Maestro
  MPU401
sound card and I am trying to either find a driver that will make
my
   sound
card into a multichannel sound card. If not, I wonder if there is
a
compatible sound card that is a multichannel sound card that will
 work
 with
 my computer setup?
It was suggested by my techy friend that I may have a proprietary
  setup
 and
that there might NOT be a compatible sound card that will work.
So I would VERY much appreciate any ideas you all have about this
as
 I
   am
going NUTS trying to operate without a multichannel soundcard.
FYI, I am running Win98 SE, Jaws 4.51, Dec Access32 software syn,
 and
 Winamp
 5.05.

 Paul

Re: WinMx

Hi folks.
Just curious, why are you guys and gals having to use the Jaws cursor using
Winmx?
I have been able to run Winmx quite successfully with the Jaws scripts
without the Jaws cursor. Is there something in the way of extra
functionality you're getting?
Please enlighten me? FYI, I am running j4.51, Win98 SE, and Winmx 3.31.

 Kristine, you need to use Jaws cursor with WinMX;
 you can download it from:

 www.winmx.com

There are many of us blind ones using WinMX but you will need the free
 scripts.
 You can get them from:

 www.jfwlite.com

 Best wishes for much success.

  Hi All,

I was attempting to download some music from a website and they gave me
a
choice of several programs I could use to search and download the songs
I
want. I had only heard of 2 of these. One was LimeWire, which I have
 found
to be completely inaccessable. The other was WinMx.

I know some of you have used WinMx and I wondered how accessable it
really
is. If it's a good choice, where do I get it?

  Thanks much.

Hi David.
Winmx is a music sharing program and is NOT associated with Winamp.
Just FYI.

 with

Re: cdex

2004-10-21 Thread Paul Hutson
Hi Frank.
When you say CDX do you mean C D E X? Also, if you are running C D E X,
which version are you using? If you are running 1.51 of C D E X, you might
want to consider downloading and installing version 1.50 of C D E X.
I am saying this because I tried running version 1.51 of C D E X but got the
same results that you are now having.
