Hi Brian,

DAISY 3 has been around for a while now. It allows you to deliver text as
well as audio formats. You can, for example, synchronise text and audio
outputs.

RE: using the plextalk pocket or book pluse as an external microphone on computer

2014-06-17 Thread Reed poynter
Hello,

You could do the following:

On the BP, start a recording by pushing the record button and leave it in
pause mode.
Place the BP into Monitor Output mode.
With a cable, connect the BP's headphone jack to the mike/line-in on your
computer.
You might have to adjust the settings for this input on your computer.
You might have to adjust the output volume on the BP.

This will allow you to use the BP's external mike as an external mike for
your computer.

Ripping a bunch of cd's

2013-12-01 Thread Reed poynter
Hello,

Looking for suggestions.

I have a large number of CD's that I want to rip to my Windows 7 pc.

Some of these CD's are music CD's and some are data CD'S with audio tracks.

I want the program to rip the CD and, for each song, go off to a database,
identify the song and artist and populate the MP3 tags.

Which program will do the job, be accessible and easy to setup?

Or, given that I have folders on my pc with untagged files, should I use one
program to rip and a second to populate the mp3 tags?

On my pc, I have Windows Media Player Version 12.0.7601.17514; which I have
used for ripping, but I don't know if it can do the database look up and
populate the mp3 tags.

Thanks,

Hi,

I didn't catch the original request. I purchased a Y-cable from Radio shack
last year. It has 2 stereo mail jacks connecting to 1 female stereo jack.
So, I can connect 2 stereo audio sources to my head phones. For example, I
can connect my Bookport Plus to one side and my pc to the other and listen
to both with my headphones.

Don't know if this is what you are looking for...But, it is an option.

I agree with Ken. Although what you need is a two in one out
mixer. A headphone amplifier most likely will have one input
 and two or more outputs.

Your idea of having an adaptor with two inputs and one output
might work, but it could damage one or both pieces of equipment.

 Hi, let me sugest this.
The best way is to get a head phone amplifier.
This arangment should only be used for inputs, because
 loading in inputs is
 way less.
Get the headphone amp, you'l be glad you did.

Audacity is free and allows for multitracking with control over
individual tracks. It also has more extensive effects and better noise
reduction than Goldwave, but it is more complex than Goldwave and takes
longer to master. Goldwave has a reasonable price, but cannot
multitrack. The key strokes in Goldwave are easier to use. Both work
well with speech. There is a free guide on using Audacity with speech

To switch back just turn the jambox off and it should switch back to your

I will be using it for recording my piano lessons, occasionally, small

$200.00 is my upper limit.

Go into Gold Wave, Hit control+O and open the wav file.
Hit Alt+F and down-arrow to save As and press enter.
You will be in the filename field.
Press tab and you will be in a field where you can choose the file type.
Press down-arrow until you find the file type you want.
I hit it twice to save as MPEG (MP3).
Then you can hit Tab a few times until you get to a list of attributes;
where you can change the MP3 file attributes (128kbps/192kbps, mono/stereo).
Then hit tab until you get to the save button and press enter.

*** iPods can make pacemakers malfunction: study (Reuters)

Published Thu, 10 May 2007 20:07:49 GMT

Reuters - iPods can cause cardiac implantable pacemakers to malfunction by
interfering with the electromagnetic equipment monitoring the heart,
according

to a study presented by a 17-year-old high school student to a meeting of
heart specialists on Thursday.

Yahoo! News

By Debra Sherman 1 hour, 10 minutes ago CHICAGO (Reuters) - iPods can cause
cardiac implantable pacemakers to malfunction by interfering with the
electromagnetic

equipment monitoring the heart, according to a study presented by a
17-year-old high school student to a meeting of heart specialists on
Thursday.

The study tested the effect of the portable music devices on 100 patients,
whose mean age was 77, outfitted with pacemakers. Electrical interference
was

detected half of the time when the iPod was held just 2 inches from the
patient's chest for 5 to 10 seconds.

The study did not examine any portable music devices other than iPods, which
are made by Apple Inc.

In some cases, the iPods caused interference when held 18 inches from the
chest. Interfering with the telemetry equipment caused the device to misread
the

heart's pacing and in one case caused the pacemaker to stop functioning
altogether.

The study was held at the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Institute at Michigan
State University. The results were presented at the Heart Rhythm Society
annual

meeting in Denver.

Jay Thaker, lead author of the study and a student at Okemos High School in
Okemos, Michigan, concluded that iPod interference can lead physicians to
misdiagnose

actual heart function.

Thaker, whose father is an electrophysiologist and whose mother is a
rheumatologist, said he asked his dad about a potential interaction between
pacemakers

and iPods.

We looked online but didn't see anything. Then, one of his patients asked
him if there would be a problem, so (my father) put me in touch with Dr.
Krit

(Jongnarangsin), Thaker said in a telephone interview.

Jongnarangsin, a long-time friend of Thaker's father, is the senior author
of the study and an assistant professor in the Division of Cardiovascular
Medicine

at the University of Michigan.

Most pacemaker patients are not iPod users, Jongnarangsin said. For that
reason, he said, it is unclear how often iPods cause misdiagnosis.

This needs to be studied more, Jongnarangsin added.

Thaker said he is interested in doing a similar study about how implantable
cardioverter defibrillators, known as ICDs, are affected by iPods.

RE: windows media and drm protected files

2007-04-02 Thread Reed Poynter
Hi Dennis,

I'm running jfw8, ie7, windows media 11, and xp pro.
I don't use files from audible or walmart. I do use DRM files from Net
Library with no problems.

I looked through Media Player's options and only see protected files
mentioned in the privacy settings. Muck with them to see if they make any
difference.

By the way, what is wma convert?

RE: SOUND QUALITY OF DIFFERENT AUDIO PLAYERS

2007-03-28 Thread Reed Poynter
Hello the list!

Has anyone seen a true comparative analysis of the two players?

What is the process?

You have to read the file (on the CD or on your hard drive and feed it to a
digital to analog converter which produces the analog sound which is fed
into an amplifier of some kind.
That digital to analog converter can be in your sound card on your pc or in
your stereo's cd player.
The amplifier can be in your sound card or as part of your stereo system.

When you are comparing sound systems, you have to make sure that the music
is being played flat; no adjustments to the bass, treble or high end. You
have to make sure that your settings in Win Amp and WmP are not tweaking the
sound.

So, when you are asking about sound quality with these guys, you first have
to ask what part dose Win Amp or Windows Media Player or the program
reading your files on your stereo cd player perform in the process and what
influence will it have on the actual sound?.

I presume it is in the reading of the cd (or file) and the ability of the
software to read exactly what is on the file. So, if you have a perfect cd,
will they perform the same?

One can prefer the usability, friendliness, functionality and so on, one
over the other. But, how easy is it to say that one has a better sound
quality output than the other?

Hey guy, this is getting kind of long. Time to stick your finger in your
eye, start rocking and go back into dream mode.

I agree with you, Bruce. Winamp sounds much better to me (with or without
equalizer) than either Windows Media Player or Realplayer.

But, as far as CDs, I'm not sure I understand what either you or Andre is
complaining about. Of course, I rip all my CDs to my hard drive, and play
them with Winamp, from there. I don't play the physical CD with any player.
But, when I play an album in the way I've describe, I can't hear any loss in
sound quality or listenability. And, when I play Days of Future Past (the
*original* concept album), it sounds just as good through Winamp, from my
hard drive, as it does on my Cd deck.

I disagree with you about Windows Media. I feel it is the least
palatable of all the player options out there. As for CD's, you are
quite correct and there's no disputing you there.

There's really very little difference but specifically if you listen to
 live

 and
I believe you won't get a third party product to play a proprietary
 format
like WMA better than a player produced by the company that produced the
 WMA
 format itself.

With regards to your other question, no, a computer won't play a CD as
 well
as a good CD player. I've had a number of machines over the years and
 find
the transports are more flimsy than a good quality CD player and don't
 hold
the CD as well. This can lead to jitter and distortion. A computer's
CD-ROM is primarily designed to play data CD's and so there was never a
 need
originally to worry about this aspect. Incidentally, I've found laptops
 to
have the better transports which surprised me but they do tend to have a
raised centre onto which you can firmly place the disc and so eliminate
 jitter.

After the transport you've got the processing of the signal which is
 going
through a dirty box of electrics in close proximity and generally feeding
finally into a not too wonderful soundcard. A good quality CD player
 will
have more separation between the digital processing and power supply to
remove RF generated by all that hot electrics.

Best way to listen to a collection of music on a computer in my opinion
 is
to get a decent USB soundcard and connect to a quality amplifier,
 preferably
 using a digital connection.

Hi Don,

I don't know about Vista, but, in XP, you can go to the control panel,

I asked this question yesterday with no response, so let me try again and
hopefully state the problem more clearly.

I have a desktop machine running Windows Vista and Windows Media Player 11.
I prefer winamp, so installed it on the machine and under file types I
selected all for the file associations.

If I play mp3 files from within wimamp they play just fine, but if I simply
hit enter on the file I want from windows explorer, the file plays in
windows media.

I can't seem to find the place in wmp 11 to change the file associations
settings in order to prevent wmp from automatically play the mp3's.

Does anyone know how I can get the files to play automatically in winamp?

Thanks,

Don

since I see that this question hasn't gotten an answer, I will tell you what
I know about it. It seems to work the same way in versions 10 and 121.

You can't use the shift-ctrl-g keystroke to achieve variable rates of speed.
If you want more speed than this shortcut allows, first go into the view
menu. In the enhancements submenu, make sure that show Enhancements and
Play Speed are shceked. Now you simply tab a bunch of times. Eventually
you come to buttons for slow and fast, then a button for snapping to common
speeds which I haven't played with. finally you come to a slider that will
give you a percentage of speed. Reading with JFW, the default seems to be
twelve per cent. Hit up arrow to increase, realizing that it isn't
difficult to get going too fast. the process is a little clunky but it is
possible to get a speed higher than the default fast speed by doing what I
just described.

If you're talking about streaming audio, you're basically asking if it's
possible to speed up time, to which the answer is essentially no, unless
you're good at tampering with physics. If you mean prerecorded clips on the
Net, Windows Media can do it, the Pacemaker plugin allows Winamp to do it,
and no doubt there are other solutions.

Hi Joe,

And glad someone elsse is interested in the mad plugin. I've been using it
for the past year or so, and noticed a little difference in
16 bit mode. Then I discovered the 24 bit setting and Winamp, got both mad
and Winamp on the same page, and I've never looked back.

The first thing you need to do is to find the now playing options in the
preferences dialog box, and check the 24 bit box. Next go to the mad
configure dialog box, and to the decode tap. Then look for resolution. Set
your resolution to 24 bit. Then go to equalization, and link eq to Winamp.
After going through all that, you should be all set.

This thing really shines with mp3 files above 160kb. Give it a shot, I think
you'll like it if you really give it a chance.

If you need any further help, just let me know. I do have what I believe to
be the latest version if you need it.

multi-users 3 minutes call, and paid for unlimited time 2-users or

feedback on how to improve accessibility for VIP's (visually impaired
people) there is an intended tutorial, too.
But unfortunately as I do not know window-eyes or Hal, I have not tested it
with that screen readers. PowerGramo, I abandoned it when I discovered
VoiceEmotion (smiles) The synthesizer does not interfer with VoiceEmotion's
automatic recorder, which just records VoIP call, so there is no need to
turn the synth off the problem is if, for example, you have acoustic signals
turned on for Skype events (authorization/contacts/file requests, incoming
chat messages, contacts going and coming, calls, etc) VEmotion records such
sounds Remember to set, in Recorder options, singlechannel on recording
mode, and record my voice, my partner's and shared music must be checked
but you find all in the tutorial for visually impaired you get on the site

Reed! I've always used the free CD Extractor / CDEX for ripping. If
you rip at 1411 KBPS you're getting no compression, that's as good as it
 gets.
Most people will want some compression. It's a trade off between
storage space and quality. Storage space is inversely proportional to
 KBPS.
Double the KBPS and you cut the storage space required by half. I'm
generally happy with 128 KBPS and many people aren't satisfied with
 anything
 under 190 KBPS.

Ripping from CD - highest quality

2007-01-23 Thread Reed Poynter
Hello to the list,

I would like to rip my cd's to my hard drive. In terms of the best sound
quality alone, Does it matter which software I use; Media Player, WinAmp or
what ever else is out there? Or, put another way, how can I get the best
rip?
Media Player's highest quality (on my machine) seems to be:
Bit Rate 1411kbps, Audio sample size 16 bit, Channels 2 (stereo), Audio
sample rate 44 kHz, Audio format PCM.
Would this reflect the characteristics of the cd? If the cd had higher
numbers, would Media Player (or the others) recreate the same as the cd? I
guess I need a quick lesson on this stuff.

Thanks.

Subject: Edirol R-09: New firmware 1.1 available

Today, Edirol will release version 1.1 of the R-09 firmware. I haven't
updated yet, but according to the readme file, this shouldn't be a
problem for blind people, because one doesn't have to use a menu to do
it.

The most important new feature is SDHC compatibility. The Edirol R-09
now works with the new SDHC cards. SDHC is the name of the new SD card
specification 2.0, which standardizes the new SD card capacities from 4
to 32 gigabytes. There are none SDHC cards of 4 gigs available, but it's
proberbly much safer to use an SDHC card, and I've already seen eight
gigabytes SDHC cards. Somebody already has uploaded the firmware to a
yousendit address and at taperssection.com, a couple of people have used
this firmware to successfully update their Edirol recorder:

 Hi there,

Well, I got my Edirol yesterday and began familiarizing myself with
 it last night.
I have to be honest and say that it took a little bit to find things,
since I had no idea how to hold it or what buttons did what. By
accident, I discovered the place where one puts in the card and USB
 plug and even the batteries.

However, I'm wondering if someone can go through and briefly tell me
a bit of the layout and how it should be held and used.

For instance, where is the on/off button, and how do I know that it's
 on or not?

I tried accessing the podcasts last night, but it kept telling me
that too many people were on the website and the podcasts weren't
 accessible.
What is the best podcast to start with, or is it possible for someone
to let me know of a recording or an indepth explanation of getting
 started with this thing?

I'd like to actually record something happening tomorrow, and want to
be able to use it soon. I'll keep playing with it, but I don't want
to mess up settings just yet.

So, how do I get started without a reader or person helping me here?

 Jim

RE: Feeling like an idiot never felt so good!

2006-11-01 Thread Reed Poynter
Hi listers,

When it comes to this sound stuff, I'm just learning.

When I look at the audio for my fujitsu s7010dc-3 notepad specs, it says,
Audio
SigmaTel ST9751T Codec, 6 channels sound support
Dolby Headphone Utility to emulate realistic surround sound using
conventional stereo headphones on DVD models

I don't understand! Is this referring to the actual sound card or the
software that drives it or what?
And, where might I find the specs for what ever this is? I've done a quick
search on the net but don't find anything meaningful.

Hi, and hope the subject line got your attention g.

What I am talking about is the rather late discovery of 24 bit audio
on my Audigy soundcard this past weekend. I was reading some old
mail on another list, and happened to read a discussion about the
new audio leveling options in Winamp 5.3 which are found in the
playback options dialog box. Now here's where my idiocy comes in.
I've been using this card for the past four years or so, and never
realized that the option for using 24byt audio was to be found
there. I frankly had never looked there in order to make any
adjustments up to that point. I have been using the MAD encoder
plugin for a while, and had tried upping the encoder to 24 bit, but
with no satisfactory results. Well after changing the option to
reflect 24 bit in winamp, then upping to 24 bit in the decoder, I
experienced nothing short of an epiphany. I simply couldn't believe
the difference it made in overall audio output, and range. I am now
able to follow bass lines that I couldn't before, and much more.
Anyway, the reason I'm telling this story at the risk of having my
idiocy confirmed, I would like to know just how much of a difference
a 32byt sound card could actually make with mp3 files, and could I
stand it g? And on top of that, if the change would truly be
worthwhile, what would be the best and most economical choice in
soundcards today. I guess a case could be made for just continuing
with the Creative line, especially since I've been so taken with
it's performance, but would be open to suggestions.

  Thanks,

  Larry

I hit Down-Arrow and JAWS doesn't say a word.
I have tried the JAWS and Invisible cursors and still nothing.
I can tab out of it and back in again and jaws reports 2 of 16 or 3 of 16
etc. But, that's all.
What's this second list view? Can JAWS read it?

RE: Mail Rule

My rule is as follows:

Rule description (click an underlined value to edit):
Apply this rule after the message arrives
sent to Pc-audio@pc-audio.org
  and on this machine only
play PcAudio.wav
and move it to the PcAudio folder

When I first set up my rule, it didn't work. I didn't have the and on
this machine only set properly. It had something like and on other
machine or something like that. I tried and tried and tried; until I
noticed this problem. I changed it and it now works.

I don't know if Outlook Express allows you to also play a sound. Outlook
does and I think its really cool. I have MP3 files set up; one for each
Outlook folder to which I'm moving mail. When I get a message from PcAudio,
Outlook moves it to my PcAudio folder and plays my sound file for that move.
It says PcAudio and I know I've just received a note from that source.

Yes. Exactly. I figure once the R-1 is discontinued, it will eventually be
available on the second-hand market and stores may want to get rid of excess
inventory... :-) Surprised the R-09 is coming in at a lower price than the
R-1.

Darrell! Right now I have the R-1 priced at $370.00 and the R-09
priced at $359.00, includes shipping within the continental United States.
I don't expect the price of the R-1 to drop when the R-09 shows up.
They are supposed to be two different products that might appeal to
different people. Then again I have seen a lot of discussion from
people deciding one over the other. Who knows, maybe the R-1 will
just be discontinued. In my experience, when a newer version of a
thing comes out the older thing is usually taken off the market rather
than it's price lowered. Anything could happen.

RE: .MP4 - how to play?

2006-05-08 Thread Reed Poynter

The MP4 file format contains the media information of an MPEG-4 presentation
in a flexible, extensible format which facilitates interchange, management,
editing, streaming and presentation of the media. This presentation may be
local to the system containing the presentation or via other stream delivery
mechanism (a TransMux) while the file format is independent of any
particular TransMux.

.MP4 - How to play

2006-05-08 Thread Reed Poynter
I have Windows Media Player 10 installed.
I want to play MP4 files.
In Media Player, I went to View, Plug-ins, Download plug-ins and ended up on
a Plug-ins for Windows Media Player web site where I found DivX Version:
6.2.2.
I downloaded and installed it.
On the web site, it says that after you download and install a plug-in, you
should be able to see it under View in Media Player.
I don't see it and I still can't play my MP4 file.

Did I install the right thing? Any suggestions? I mean other than Use
WinAmp.

Thanks.

Hi Tracy,

Mine cost just over $400, and you'll spend another $50 - $100 on a Compact
Flash memory card of 1 GB or more to insert into the unit once it is
received. Now that the R-09 is coming out, I would imagine prices for the
R-1 will start coming down soon.

I am delighted with the Edorl R-1. With two microphones built right
in, mastering affects and recording right onto compact flash, it's a
wonderful recorder. The menus odn't wrap, so although it doesn't talk,
it's easy to use. It records all the way up to 48 khz 24 bit, and
handles MP3 recording too. Yay for the R1.

 Thanks a lot.
I own the iriver h140 and I use it with rockbox. I only use the normal
firmware to record directly to mp3 because recording in wav eats the
 battery fast.
I whish rockbobx could record in mp3 too. Can't they record in vorbas
since it is a free format?
Any way, I am thinking of ptr2 myself.

 Nektarios, you wrote:

Michael, have you had any experience with the ptr2? How would you
compare the recording quality with the iriver both with the internal
mike and the external or line in?

I own the PTR2. I've recorded with the 140, but I've not used Rockbox
for that. I believe, that one can control the record level with
Rockbox while recording? This isn't possible with the normal firmware.

I think that the recording quality of the two is quite similar. Both
machines can record in uncompressed Wave and MP3. As much as I know,
one cannot use MP3 on the iRiver when Rockbox is used, because MP3
requires a license, and this license costs money.

The main difference in my opinion is accessibility. With the PTR2, I
can ask the recorder to tell me, how much time's left on the card or
CD. The machine tells me, when the battery is flat. I have a talking
level control. I can easily distinguish between record and record
 pause mode and so on.

Like the iRiver the Plextalk has a stereo Plug-in power capable
microphone input and a line-in. However it doesn'T have optical in and
out like the iRiver. The built-in mic of the Plextalk is mainly for
note taking, I'd not use it to record music. But I wouldn't use the
built-in mic of the iRiver for that either, because of the hard disk
 noise.

RE: BookPort: Can one go to a specific page?

2006-05-03 Thread Reed Poynter
Hi Michael,

This is what the BP manual says about the topic.

Page Number

The menu's Page Number option serves two purposes. First, it informs you of
the current page number. Second, it lets you move to another page in the
current
book. To move to another page, press the 5 key to select the Page Number
menu option, then use the numbers on the keypad to type in the number of the
desired
page. Finally, press the # key to complete your request or press the * key
to cancel. When you press #, Book Port will either move to the desired page
or it will beep if you entered a page number that is not valid for the
current book. Note that the Page Number function accepts only Arabic
numbers, so
if you want to turn to a page at the beginning of a book that occurs before
page 1, you will have to go to page 1 then use the Back Page key to move
exactly
to the desired page.

Be aware that not all books you send to Book Port contain page number
information. In the case of a file that does not contain any page
information, Book
Port uses an approximation to represent pages.

The Page Number feature is a particularly useful command, and you may wish
to take advantage of the fact that Book Port remembers the menu option you
last
used, so you may simply press the 0 key to access the menu and have the page
number immediately accessible.

So, to answer your question, Yes you can.

Yes generally if you want line in, you'll need to get a port replicator or
docking station for your laptop. I use Line In all the time with my IBM

Hi Jonathan,

I'm sorry must be a bit thick can't seem to find it,

What is the program in question called? I might be able to find it using
good old google.

I saw other programs like cortzwile but I am not going to pay all that money
for that program it is an excellent program, I use txt aloud but I just
thought the program that you were talking about turned the text into mp3
without first making a wov?

Thanks for any help you can give all the best.

Hi Kevin, the reason why you won't find it in the podcast review is that it
was a text review, IE it was written only. It's still on the blog and was
written in early February.

RE: why goldwave?

Is there any software out there that would allow you to speed up the

Subject: why goldwave?

The reason I wanted Goldwave is because I ordered something from Audible in
format 1, not the format 4 that the bookport supports. Apparently this is
only available in format 1. I absolutely hate regular speed reading and was
not going to waste six hours because I couldn't speed up the file.
Therefore with goldwave I was able to speed it up and am even now, as of
five minutes ago, reading it at double speed. Also, it will play back a
recording at double speed, although I am not sure you can record it onto a
CD that way. I am used to the higher pitch with regular pauses of double
speed, so that doesn't bother me. I have been reading that way for 40 years
and prefer it. That's why I was looking for tutorials etc. I would pay for
it as shareware to have in case of times like these. However, I would like
to hear a tutorial to get to use it better. Kurt

I couldn't agree more. After you make the slight adjustment, they work
great. Not only are they a good low cost alternative, they sound good. You
can also use them with batteries, something which could prove helpful. I had
one running constantly for about a year and didn't have a bit of trouble
with it, accept when the power dropped, they shut off and have to be
re-started manually. You can't go wrong with one and my 2 year old grand son
could probably hook it up.

 Hi,

I'll chime in here too with a hearty endorsement of the c
crane transmiter. Perhaps those who are disappointed with its range
haven't heard about the secret screw adjustment that makes it kick
butt. How can one go wrong at its price. I remember spending a lot
more at one time for the so-called webcaster, which, now resides at
the bottom of the Winchendon Massachusetts landfill. I bought it
because I loved the concept, but, it just plain didn't work
correctly, for my money. I could bearly get reception from one room
to the next, and it cost much more than the c crane unit, and it had
dorky knobs to deal with. With the c crane, you can press buttons
and count how many times and get to where you want to be. It doen't
drift, fade out, or depreciate in signal, and yeah, the batteries
seem to last forever. I've got two, and one of them is on all the
time, and, knock on wood, they're both running perfectly.

Here here Steve. One thing which I love about the C-Crane transmitters
as well is the ability to adjust the frequency to within .5. Example,
88.1, 88.15, 88.2, 88.25, 88.3, etc.

I find the range of the C-Crane to be very good and in fact it can reach
throughout my house and garage with no problems. The 2 AA batteries on
it last for ever it seems. Overall, I'm very happy with the C-Crane
although at the time I did pay $70.00 for it.

Steve Matzura said the following on Tue, Dec 20, 2005 at 12:41:11PM -0500:
The first thing I don't like about this unit is, it's not full-band
coverage. The New York City FM dial is full, every 400KC, and the
in-betweens can readily be heard coming in from surrounding counties
and states if you have a decent receiver with an equally decent
antenna. The so-called college band, though, is pretty empty, so I
might avail myself of the low-end-of-the-band version if I were
  ordering it.

Second thing is, I think you're paying a lot of money for the extra
power supply deal. This one weighs in at $89, whic is $24 higher than
the C Crane one which, oh by the way, boasts no special band coverage
  restrictions.

Reed! Many of us use an FM transmitter and wireless keyboard to work
with our computer remotely. The FM transmitter allows us to hear the audio,
including software speech from the computer over a standard FM radio and the
wireless keyboard allows us to enter commands. With this equipment we can
sit on the deck or across the house from the main computer and operate it
remotely. The C Crane transmitters are a good low cost option for the FM
transmitter part. Instead of an FM transmitter some of us use wireless
headphones which come with a transmitter that broadcasts on a dedicated
frequency. The Gyration keyboard for $199.00 is a popular option for the
keyboard part with reliable service up to 100 feet from the keyboards
transmitter..
The FM transmitter or headphone transmitter plugs into where you would
plug your computers speakers in and the keyboard plugs into a USB port.

RE: Transferring Vinyl Records to CD Or harddrive

2005-12-12 Thread Reed Poynter
I have some old tapes and records that I want to put on to cd.
So, I had the same questions a couple of weeks ago.

What I did:
Go to http://jfwlite.com/programs.html and download and install the GoldWave
JAWS scripts.
Go to http://www.goldwave.com/ and download and install the latest trial
version of GoldWave.
Read C:\Program Files\GoldWave\GoldWave.htm. Appendix D gives an example of
copying records.

Hello!

I recently purchased a program called Rip Vinyl from out of England. The
menu items seem to work okay, but as soon as I try to use it to select my
source, say mike or line-in, the programs locks up my system and I can't get
out of it, except my rebooting the machine entirely. I paid ten bucks for
the program so I am not worried about it, but is there another such program
out there that is accessible? I actually want to rip Casettes to my hard
drive and then onto MP3 discs. I heard mention of a program called Audacity
(free I hear). How accessible is this one?

Hi Guys,

I am using a trial version of GoldWave. The upper right status bar displays
a command count (unlicensed usage), which gives you a rough idea of how much

the program. How can I read this count?

I have an opened file with cue points dropped. I see how to move from one
cue point to the next with Control+J. Can I ask GoldWave to start playing
at the current cue point after hitting Control+j?

I do see how to start playing from a given cue point shown in the cue
points dialog. The problem here is that the fast forward, rewind and pause
(F5,F6 and F7) don't work for me in this dialog .
