Re: Moving Music from iPod to Computer

2011-10-08 Thread Victoria Vaughan

Hi Dan, I have not done this, but here are the steps given by Anna Dresner:
Good luck! Vicky
1. Connect the iPod. When iTunes opens, if you're asked if you want to sync
with your iTunes library, say no, and enable disk use.

2. Use Windows Explorer to copy the iPod Control folder into the folder you
use for your iTunes library. This will copy all the music, but the file
names will be seemingly random combinations of letters and numbers.

3. Go to PReferences in iTunes by pressing Control-Comma. Switch to the
Advanced tab in this multi-page dialog box, and check the Keep iTunes media
folder Organized check box.

4. Go to the File menu in iTunes, choose ADd Folder to LIbrary, and select
the iPod control folder. All the music will be added to your iTunes library,
and iTunes will name all the files based on their tags, so if the title,
artist and album tags are correct, the music will be named and organized
correctly.

Re: Freedom From The Computer

2011-09-22 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi Lee, I am going through old mail, to see if any of it will help on my new
computer. I was interested in your transmitter on the keyboard, allowing you
to be anywhere around your house and still use the keyboard.

Do you mean that your transmitter has a speaker? So you can hear the Jaws
voice, regardless of where you are?

Many thanks! Vicky

Subject: Freedom From The Computer

Hi Listers,

A few years ago, I decided that since I was using Jaws and had no need for
the screen, why should I have to be tied to the computer to use the
computer. Here's what I did. I connected an FM transmitter to the sound
card of my computer and now use a small FM radio or my Sansa mp3 player
which is tiny and equipped with FM to hear Jaws or anything else from the
sound card. Then I bought an RF wireless keyboard with a range of a
hundred feet or so. The keyboard is small and light and with a
transmitter built in. The keyboard's receiver plugs into the USB port of
my computer. With this combination, for probably the last five years,
unless I have to load a disc or do something physical on the computer, I
compute wherever I want from bed, to the living room, to the kitchen, etc.

My only problem is that because it's an RF keyboard, I sometimes have to
physically adjust the keyboard receiver's little antenna at the computer
depending on where I am in the house. So here's my question. I haven't
done anything with Bluetooth and I know some of you are much more
knowledgeable about this technology. Is anyone doing the same thing I'm
doing with Bluetooth? I think I need a longer range, Class 1, wireless
Bluetooth keyboard. Does anyone know where I could buy such an animal?
There seem to be plenty of infrared or short-range wireless keyboards out
there but the first question from well-meaning sighted computer people is,
why would you want a wireless keyboard anywhere too far to see the
computer screen, grin. Of course the answer is that you probably
wouldn't unless you were a visually impaired person using a screen reader
so it's kind of a niche problem. Any help and advice would be greatly
appreciated.

then tell me how someone with a screen reader (Jaws 12) can accomplish

Phil's response:

Hello Tom,

It's a Windows issue.

This is what I found.

This behavior can occur because the task scheduler is not set to Log

To fix this behavior follow these steps:

Right-click My Computer and from the drop down menu click Manage.
From the Services and Applications menu, click Services.
From the right scroll down menu, double-click Task Scheduler.
Click the Log On tab, select the Local System Account and Allow

Re: TV cards

Hi Elizabeth, My TV tuner card gets its signal or input from my cable.
Therefore, my cable package controls the cost and channels I can watch
through my card.

My card is an Adaptech, but I think they are no longer available, since I
have looked for them, when I found out that my second input wasn't working.

One reason I thought I might like a satlight signal, was for the better

Hi everyone, as you can tell from my subject, I am looking for any
recommendations you all might have for me for 2 sets of wireless Stereo
speakers.

My stereo receiver has already worked with a wireless set in my bedroom
and a wirered set in my livingroom, where the receiver is.

Now, do to a rearrangement of my livingroom furniture, I would like to
put speakers at either end of my couch, across the room from the
receiver.

These speakers will be near an outlet, so power will be no trouble, they
won't be running on batteries. They just won't be hooked into my stereo
as they are now.

Do you think that having 2 sets of wireless speakers will be a problem?

RadioShack has several wireless speakers for sale on their website:

www.radioshack.com

But how am I to choose? I can't listen to them online or in the store,
since these are just online items.

Any thoughts or suggestions, will be greatly appreciated! Vicky

The other set will be in my bedroom to either side of the head of my bed.

Check out a variety wireless speakers at:

They seem to have some interesting wireless speakers' varieties. I am
planning on picking one up for use at my retail store. The WES3200DUO has
been recommended from a chat with someone in their tech support. Based on
some descriptions I read, these speakers have a range of 150 feet to 300
feet. There are so many varieties to look at although, like Radio Shack,
one can't really hear how they sound until one gets a chance to give them
a test drive.

Hope the above is somewhat helpful. Many thanks!!

First, I think you're all missing the Audio button on your DVD player
remote controls. This button, when pressed, will switch between audio
languages for every single DVD on the planet, so if the DVD has audio
description, that's how you can find it without using the menus. There
are no exceptions to this rule.

Secondly, as the audio description for the Harry Potter DVD's is produced
by a UK company (ITFC), it stands to reason that yes, you can only
purchase described copies in the United Kingdom. For a list of DVD's
available in the UK with AD, please visit:

Hope that helps.

yeah which is rediculous. You'd think that with all the other fancy
features they pack into a dvd that a talking menu system and audio
description would be fairly easy. I mean, they have closed captions and
dubbing, so why not audio description? And they used to have talking
vcrs but no talking dvd players? Or some sort of talking menu on the dvd
itself?

Ok I'm done now. But come on, it's like the talking book library when
they send me print materials about the new braille catalogue. Really?

I do appologize if this is not quite appropriate for this list, but I
don't know who else to ask. Several months ago I bought a Harry
Potter DVD that I thought would have audiodescription. It was my
(apparently wrong) understanding that all those films would have
audiodescription. Either we can't find it on the DVD or it's just not
there. I live in the U.S. and was using Amazonddcom to buy it. When I
googled Deathly Hallows Part 1 audiodescription, the first thing that
came up was from amazonddco. Does this mean you can only get the
audiodescribed version from the UK? I do have a lovely,Mp-3 copy of
this film but do want the physical DVD so that I can watch it with a
group of blind and sighted friends. So where in the world can I find
 such an animal?

Thanks as always for your wonderful help.

 Peace, Kathy

Vicky. There is a thing in goldwave that will attempt to reduce vocals,
but it's hit or miss. It all depends on what sort of music it is. If it
was recorded, lets just say ballpark, 1964 or so, then they were putting
two track on one cannel and two on another with the vocal, like the
beatles early stuff. However, the issue really comes in when you have a
stereo recording where the channels match. Now what you could do is, and
please correct me gang if I've got this a bit bassackward, but couldn't
you theoretically invert the phase of the channels? I know in the stereo
section of goldwave's effects menu there is a channel mixer. But as far
as specifically isolating, say, the flute part from the flute and harp
concerto by mozart, that's not too easy if the recording is mixed in
both channels. If you happened to have some old recording in the 4 track
format described above, then maybe you could digitize that and invert
the phase of the channels.

So the really long short answer is, kinda sorta not really. It would
depend if you wanted complete and utter isolation of an instrumental
track.

But wait, there's more! If you've stuck it out with me thus far, then I
just thought of another idea. Could you get a midi track of the song
you want and then put it into a sequencer like sonar with the
caketalking scripts? Then yes you truly could hear the flute part to the
flute and harp concerto. It wouldn't be Galway or whomever playing it,
but it would be a start to learning the material.

So, those are my thoughts for whatever they are worth. If that helped at
all, then cool. If it just kind of put you to sleep, then, well everyone
needs some way to sleep. And if you stopped reading awhile back then,
you're not reading this anyway.

If you like i could look at the track in question and see what might be
able to be done with it, feel free to email me off list.

Hello Vicky, unfortunately there is no way to hear only one part of a
song,
as it has already been mixed down and mastered to 2 tracks. The only way
you

can try is to try cancelling the vocals, but that won't give you just the
part you want. It may give you that part with some drums or something, but
it does depend on how the song was originally recorded. This is where the
old motto of sound work, rubbish in, rubbish out, comes in.

For midi sequencer there is a great free accessible sequencer called qws.
I don't have a link handy for you at this time but I can get it later.
Anyway this sequencer allows you to play tracks by themselves.

For most midi files anyway.

you need to have the track as a midi file if you can find one. Then
you'd have to have a sequencer that recognizes the interface and parts
of the song that are different tracks or instruments if any.
www.dancingdots.com is where the software that will help you best. Not
cheap but powerful. It might be a bit much, I'm not sure what you're
looking for from a track specifically.

Vicky. There is a thing in goldwave that will attempt to reduce
vocals, but it's hit or miss. It all depends on what sort of music it
is. If it was recorded, lets just say ballpark, 1964 or so, then they
were putting two track on one cannel and two on another with the

Hi all.
I have just ordered a Sennheiser PX 210 BT bluetooth headset from Best
Buy. Price here in the UK £149.99. I know this is not a recommendation
as such, but judging from reviews and from what I have seen yesterday
when I went to my local store they fit the bill for me at least. I don't
personally intend to make and receive calls; I just want to play music
or other audio without wires and without carrying my iPod Touch in my
pocket. It also comes with a cable for devices that do not support
bluetooth.
Chat soon.

I highly, highly, highly recommend you do not buy from logitech. I
purchased two headsets, one specifically for skypeing and the like
and it was terrible. There was a slight mic monitor that you can't
turn off, and the ear pads block out enough noise for me to feel
clostrophoebic. And I was told I sounded on skype like I was
talking in a tin can. I also got a more expensive gaming headset
and it was like the chat one only magnified on the two things I
listed above.

some, of this headset is that you can't use it while it charges. It
is advertised as a gaming headset so those who game for 8 hours

that's not an issue I need to worry about. However, even if you don't

I'm no expert here, but you get 700MB on a CD. Are you talking about an
audio CD or a data CD? If you're talking about a data CD and you won't
be converting the files in your playlist to another format then it
should fit easily. If you'll be creating an audio CD then it depends on
how large the files are after they're converted to .wav format. If this
doesn't help then maybe someone with more experience will weigh in.

Hey! The company am3d makes some absolutely phenomenal 3d binaural sounds

most believable and even spookiest sound demo I've ever heard.
Anyway my point is they have a 3d engine that you used to be able to
download. It was a demo copy. I got it to work with window eyes and I think
JFW though probably not as well since W E works much better using the mouse
cursors and such. I could take a sound and place wherever I wanted it, I
could move the sounds around. As a matter of fact I put one in a tight
circle moving around the head and I got a little sick and dizzy from it.
Well the last time I visited there website
www.am3d.com
I think you have to order the demo of this engine. I did write them a
letter
a few years back asking if I could have the full version just to explore
its

accessibility aspects but unfortunately it didn't happen. I was rather
impressed how much I could do considering most 3d audio engines like that
are very graphical.
I'm sure it hasn't changed much and if you write to them you might be able
to get the newest demo of the engine.
BTW I still have the interrogation room audio demo if anyone is interested.
I think it is the best example of binaural 3d audio out there to date.
thanks for letting me ramble

I don't know if any of these are accessible, but astoundsound.net was
mentioned on this show called Home Theater Geeks. I listened to a demo on
my Macbook that I now got running Windows, it just sounds like wide stereo
even though the guy said one should here all directions even from laptop
speakers. I think these can only work on headsets, and I have my doubts
there, although if one ever heard the virtual haircut on youtube, it
really

could be done, just how to convert normal 5.1 into this.

Hi all

Since other apps are talked about here, I thought I'd ask.
Is Cubase or Nuendo at all accessible with Jaws, or are there scripts
available that will let you work in 1 of these apps? How does Cubase or
Nuendo compare with Sonar?

Another important issue, is voice tuning.
The studio where I work, use Melodyne to do voice tuning, since it sounds
very natural, not as synthetic as some of the autotuners out there. Also,
with melodyne it's possible to tune small portions of music, even parts of
a

single note. I wonder if Melodyne can be accessed at all with Jaws, or is
the lay-out too graphical? What good alternative is there to melodyne, if
any, something that would enable you to achieve almost the same success as
with Melodyne?

Thanks for any help, it would be highly appreciated.

All the best

VLC help Please?

2011-03-02 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi, Hopefully someone may be able to help with my inconsistent results in using
VLC to watch DVDS.

I have tried the internet for help, but every time I clicked on a page that I
thought would help, it responded that, that page was no longer available! Very
frustrating.

I am using Jaws 11 on a Windows XP computer.
Sometimes the following steps work, but never never more than once a day.

1. I put the DVD in and shut the door.
When VLC comes up as a choice, I hit Enter.
Pres ALT followed by the right arrow to the Play menu and press Enter.
Arrow down to Title and hit Enter.
Arrow down to the title of choice and hit Enter.
Press the Spacebar to start.

Now, as I said above, this works occasionally on the first try, but never on a
second try the same day, let alone just after seeing the first title and
wanting to see the second title.
If I do these same steps again after the first title, it has never worked!

Can someone tell me how I can get consistent working results?

My deepest thanks! Vicky

Hi!

I've got what perhaps may be an easier option for you than Total
Recorder, will cost a little more but will probably do a better job.

There are DVD/VCR combo units available from brands such as Panasonic
which both play and record DVD'S and video cassettes so therefore it
follows you can dubb from one to the other at the touch of a button.

I've had my Panasonic model for nearly 4 years now and I wouldn't be
without it for the very reasons you've written to me in the first place

If you'd rather capture images onto your computer and dubb them across
to another media then you'll need to use Total Recorder video
Professional, I don't own this product as yet so I can't give you all
that information about it, I plan to upgrade to it next week so in the
meantime you may consider reading some of the primers on Total Recorder
Video Professional and how to capture video etc which can be found on
Total Recorder's web site at http://www.totalrecorder.com

Good luck with all that, sounds exciting.

I hope this isn't considered off topic hhere. II've been pretty happy
with an airport express connected to my stereo streaming stereo music
from the web, Itunes etdf. But I'm about to get an apple tv, because of
the accessible netflicks and accessible dvd playing on the mac that I'd
like to stream, and I'd like to do it in 5.1 surround, so as to get
more of the home theater sound experience. But it seems like all the
modern receivers I've seen are so menu oriented that you really can't
operate them without sight, unless you have an amazing memory, that is,
which I don't. So I wonder if there are any receivers that can be
operated by a blind person, more than just turning it on and off, of
course. I'm talking switching between various modes and inputs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi vicky the software and hardware details are below.

VCR2PC. but the software calls it VHS2PC. but does the same thing.
it is a video player like you have at home with the tv but the only
exception it has a USB port to connect to the computer.

it uses a program called. Ion Easy converter. and the video is made by a
company called

Ion.
it is windows 7 and windows vista and xp supported for drivers.
very easy to install.
for a while I was wanting my sighted partner to click on the buttons,
convert etc. but recently was playing with it and found there are short
cuts that work but not in the normal way example.
to get to the convert button that takes you on to the video monitor so you
can preview what you want to record before recording as you can watch it
in live play before recording as well.
to get to the convert button, would be difficult without the short cuts as
the hole interface isn't blind friendly.

so to get to the convert button you have to do the following.
Alt+C. this puts you on the convert button, then you have to press enter.
this takes you in to the video monitor screan. as previously said.
now just put your video in and press play on the video. now your screan
behaves like a normal tv. but in a small box whilst streaming through the
program. when you want to record anything playing just find the place on
the tape.

then press spacebar.
now your in the title box. delete what's in the box, normally it says,
title here.

now type what you want to record the name for it.
now it is easier. when your ready to record just press.
Alt+R. followed by enter.
now this starts recording. to stop recordingv.press.
alt+S. it will ask you to conferm that you want to stop recording. now
press Alt+Y. then enter.

now it is saved. and the default place it saves is, my video's
and when you open it you can use any program that plays video. I think off
the top of my head it can save as AVI or MPG. don't try and play MPG in
windows media player as windows media player won't do it. winamp loves
these types of files.
don't have a moddle number to hand at the moment but they only do one type
that does it

Hi adrian John here
I've got myself a piece of equipment called a. VHS to PC converter. this
is a video player that sits on your desk and attaches to the computer
using special software and also uses USB as well and anything
including camera's can be put through it and then you play them on your
computer like a normal tv and when your ready to put them on to dvd
first play the video, then hit record on the program it will give a
click and then it will start recording it on to your hard drive then you
can burn it to dvd with the same program or nero. I don't use the
programs built in dvd burner it isn't very relyable

I've got myself a piece of equipment called a. VHS to PC converter. this
is a video player that sits on your desk and attaches to the computer
using special software and also uses USB as well and anything including
camera's can be put through it and then you play them on your computer
like a normal tv and when your ready to put them on to dvd first play the
video, then hit record on the program it will give a click and then it
will start recording it on to your hard drive then you can burn it to dvd
with the same program or nero. I don't use the programs built in dvd
burner it isn't very relyable

them? there are 3 levels, beginner, medium, and advanced.

They start out kinda slow, but he goes though a lot of what this editer

I'd just toss them up, but I no longer have a beautiful 2 meg upstream,

Hello Victoria,
Use an audio editor like Sound Forage or Gold Wave to record your talking
book tapes.

Convert them to .MP3 with Switch and or any other audio file converter.
Then copy it to the cartridge, and there you are.
Now all you have to do is, put the cartridge in the player and go to town
listening to it!

Hope this helps.

The only thing with the record player, you couldn't play 45 and or 78

If any of you are familiar with DVD playing software that synchronizes
subtitles with the running program, you'll understand the following
question.

Imagine an MP3 file you want to stream which has many songs embedded
in it. Think of a podcast with many sections, or a music show with
many songs being played during the course of the program. As you
know, an MP3 file can have but one set of metadata in it which gets
transmitted when the file starts playing. I'm wondering if there is a
program or plug-in for Winamp which can play a file and, through use
of a file similar to the .SRT files for DVD subtitles, display, or
cause to be displayed, changing metadata at various points in the
program. If there is such a thing, or if anybody knows who might be
interested in developing such a thing, I'd be interested in
communicating with them.

Okay, another app someone put me onto and its very accessible, have a look

you get all the streams near you, quality is very good.

Still having wonderful fun with Ootunes and I like the auto record
facility. Heard something listneing to a radio stream and you wish you
had your recorder running to capture that moment of momentos importance?
Not to worry, Ootunes would have caught it for you if auto recording was
enabled. Every stream is recorded and you can tell Ootunes how many
recent recordings to keep, the default is 2. So you want to keep that
recorded stream? Double-tap on it in the recordings list - you can
identify it by stream or station name - and use the buttons to manipulate
it, save it, email it or whatever, if you have an Ootunes account you can
upload it and put a link up to the recording on your twitter or email it
to a friend.

I'll keep exploring smile.

I got all excited over a system sold by DAX.com, only to be told, when I

this is really disappointing, since the DAX does everything you could want in

This might be a stupid answer. At least a nontechnical one.
1 John Denver has put out several acoustic versions of his songs.
2 If you are internet savi u can find chord files for guitar. This is
similar to tabliture files but only has chords. It can be a process but
the chords can be read by your screen reader or if you're lucky enough
to have a braille printer or display you can read the chords.

I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.
Anyway a couple of work arounds i thought might help.

No, because what you have is a final compressed track. if you can get
your hands on the master recording then you wil have that option. with
equalization you can enhance certain instruments based on how much that
track was in the fore front.

Vicky: I think the lead Guit would likely be recorded on the same track as
the bass and drums. I have been trying to break down leads by loading a
song, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana etc... into GoldWave. Then I open the
file and use the effect called TimeWarp to slow the song down without
changing the pitch to about 70 percent the speed of the original. All the
instruments are still there but it is easier to break out the note for
note playing that way. That method is still really time consuming since
allot of the leads are so fast that they are still really dificult but at
least it is doable. If I slow down beyond 60 pct or so the song gets
pretty garbled and that is not good either. My guess is there is some way
to slow down a song to perhaps 50 percent and either keep a song clean or
something might be able to clean it up but I don't know what might be used
since I am new to all this stuff myself.

1 John Denver has put out several acoustic versions of his songs.
2 If you are internet savi u can find chord files for guitar. This is
similar to tabliture files but only has chords. It can be a process but
the chords can be read by your screen reader or if you're lucky enough

I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.

High Vicky,
No, the voice is always in the middle.
It just gives better separation of the other instruments.
It is like having the keyboards in one speaker, the percussions in the other
speaker.
While the drums and bass are pan to both speakers.
In the late 50's and early 60's, that is how early stereo was recorded.
The music in one speaker, while the voices were in the other speaker.
In the mid to late 60's, they got away from that.
Putting the voices in the middle is pretty much the norm and has been cense
1965.
Hope this helps you.
My best regards.
 John.

Hi, When you say, Better separation, does this separate voices into one
speaker and the music into the other? I wouldn't like that.

However, when I had a base and treble equalizer, I could bring specific
sounds into prominence, which I really liked. Sadly, it died.

I finally figured it out. I found the manual online but it didn't have
anything about the audio capture.

If you want to record a stream like an online station you can play the
station then turn on the audio capture. Set the settings but don't check
the

box to have it start automatically. Just enter on the start button and it
wil start recording.

If you have a stream that is a certain length rather than an online
station

open the audio capture, set it up plus check the box fo r it to start
automaticallly. then hit cancel. Then when you start the definite stream
the

audio capture will come up. There you can see what title it gives it plus
all the other info. It will also stop automatically at the end of the
stream.

Re: PAL format

2009-12-14 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi, I have some Startrek videos that don't play well in my computer. I
purchased them from Dealsworld and they came from China. Perhaps they are
in the Pal format?

What program would convert PAL to NTSC
or to A V I?

I am a novace at this, so please tell me as much as you can. If you think
it best, you could send it directly to me at:

Your friend is right when he says that the dvd will play in region 1
players. That is not really the problem.

Your problem lies in the fact that your televsiion system is NTSC which
is
a lower definition format than PAL. That is to say, NTSC has a fewer
lines

per screen than PAL.

However, you have 3 alternatives.

If you want to play the dvd on a computer, you can get a program which
will

convert PAL to NTSC. You may also be abel to use a ripping program to
convert the prograam to A V I format and watch it in windows media player.

If you want to play it on a DVD player, firstly check your TV to see if
it
will accept PAL signals. This is unlikely but some of the higher end
models
do and adjust automatically. If not then consider buying a small
hardware

device which will do the conversion for you. The last time I looked, you
could get one for about $100.

Thirdly, depending on where you live, you may find a local company which
will copy the DVD and convert it to NTSC for you. This would involve a
small fee but it may prove the cheapest alternative.

A friend in France wants to send a friend in the U.S., namely me, DVDs
produced in a format called PAL. Over there, it is claimed that PAL is
universal, and that it specifically covers Region 1. However, a local
Apple
store says that Mac computers can't play it. My Google searches have led
to

confusing results on the question of whether a stand-alone DVD player or a
PC can handle the format.

Does anyone on this list happen to know if any devices in the U.S. can
handle PAL? We contributed research to this documentary series and would
love to find out what came out of it.

I'm using iTunes 8.11 with a program called jTunes, which is a program to
make iTunes more accessible inconjuction with Jaws.

The current version of iTunes is V 9, but it still has some access issues,
even with Jaws 11.

To get version 8, go to:

Good luck.

hello, one thing you can also check creative's website to see if they
have demo software that you can download to try.
that might be a option for you. i am not using any scripts, or any
special work arounds. and i am able to access creative's software and eq
settings. but i got the software with my card. its the xfi series but i
got the one thats around $199 it gives you the extra front stereo inputs
and volume level menu buttons to select options.

also usually a sound card is set to its default settings, but one thing
you can do is if your using itunes there eq is very accessible, i use
itunes, and i created various eq settings for different applications, and
the music coming through itunes sounds absolutely amazing. i am very
picky with my sound too.

It is certainly conceivable that you don't care about the sound coming
out
of your card; that is your affair. I, however, do and yes, I want and
yes

expect that I will be able to access what I paid for. Clearly you don't
have an answer to contribute and that's ok. Equaly clearly you haven't
been

reading this thread because I'm not the only one who has been having
difficulties with Creative. I am willing, however, to stand up and say
that
we need access to what we pay for just as our seeing counterparts do.
It is
my obligation and my right to warn people against making the mistakes
that I

have.

Now I notice that happy as you are with this card, you have made no
effort
to discuss whatever workarounds you may have established, which leads me
to
believe that you are just using the card in its flat default response.
This
is your privilege, but I want at least the ability to get some treble
out of
the high end. Since this appears to be too much to ask, I am now asking
for
alternatives and chosing to walk away from this company, which I find to
be

entirely unresponsive.

Well i'm nost using total recorder, but in goldwave you could try using
compressor, found in the effect menu, and from there choose the option,
boost quiet parts and see what happeneds.

Hello.
From the things you explained, it sounds to me that the cd isn't
properly
mixed, and there for, that is the reason why you can't hear all parts
of the song how it is suppose to sound. To clarify that, try listening
the same cd on differend sound systems and see if you get the same
results. If the end results are the same than you can do a few of the
things. First, if this is part of the songs which is just vocal parts
singing, than you can make part of that song louder than the rest of
it. But, if the vocal part is mixed in the same time with some other
instruments, than probably you cant do much about it, since you will
mess up all the song and you could end up having very distorted parts
which you really don't want.

Hi!

Thought I'd write a little report on my progress so far with this
application and the word to best sum up my report is promising.

When you open the Multiquence application you're presented with a new
track window, you can record here, create a new track, or whatever. On
examining the screen with the mouse pointer in Window-Eyes - and I assume
the same will hold true with the JAWS cursor in JAWS - you'll notice a
few graphics in the window, these have labels next to them so using the
auto label graphics feature or whatever will easily identify them so they
can be saved in a graphics diction associated with the application.

You'll see a timeline, this will be set to 0 if you have no data in the
track, if data is in the track then clicking here will bring up an edit
box, type in the time you want and press enter, things like the time line
can be clicked on or have context menus associated with them if you
right-click, a context menu will appear if it exists for that function or
tool.

Tracks are listed near the bottom of the screen in order, when the
application is opened you're in Track 1, pressing shift-insert will
Create a new track so this will be Track 02, using the navigation
shortcut or clicking on the track name will put that track into focus
etc.

Have to take a break from my exploration of Multiquence for a while but
I'll be back at it as soon as is possible smile, I hope that other
people on this list will be curious enough to try the software and report
back with what they find, the more people obviously who work with a piece
of software then the better understanding everyone can have of what the
application does and how it does it, how to access it and so on.

Cheers

Victoria, I was refering to the BBC's Iplayer TV catch up streams which I
doubt are available outside of the UK.

You do need a pretty fast connection to sustain TV streaming, particularly
at
the high definition rate which approaches broadcast quality here in the
uK.

Caroline, I omitted to say there is something called Quicktime

which is supposed to make life easier for screen reader users, though it
wasn't developped specially for us. I think it allows you to play
material
outside of the browser rather than the ebbeding imposed by web designers

Must admit it's ages since I sued the IPlayer downloader. I just stream
TV
programmes now. Often wondered if it's possible to record the video as

as the sound while watching, but not looked into that.

Do let us know if you have success getting downloaded programmes to play

Caroline, I'm not surprised the Beeb isn't making it easy to play
downloaded
files in other media players because, after all, the licence you're
granted
to
play these does in the normal way of playing them expire in 28 days or
something like that.

I wonder though if there is an extra DRM module or plug-in for Windows
Media
Player that would allow you to play these programs in WMP. The BBC
itself

might be prepared to answer this question.

As an aside I'm rather surprised the Beeb hasn't closed the seeming loop
hole
where people are downloading radio programmes as that's not what is
supposed
to happen. there agreement with copyright holders is for 7 days
streaming

availability after a programme goes out. Still, a bit off the subject I
know.

Hope you get an answer to this Caroline and I see you've posted this

Access-UK so who knows, maybe an answer will yet surface there.

The Levelator is a great little program designed for levelling the
overall
volume of speech in audio recordings. It is very neat, fully automated,
and
works very well so long as the background noise isn't too high in the
source

recording.

With the newer versions (available for PC and Mac) on the PC you can
highlight the audio file, use send to and choose the Levelator as the
target.

It processes the file and drops a new levelated version in the same
folder.

Its that simple.

XP Media Center

2009-10-27 Thread Victoria Vaughan
Hi folks, I am hoping someone will be able to help me figure out how I can
improve my video recording and DVD watching. I have a Media Center laptop
computer, running XP Professional. A USB Adaptec TV Tuner card is attached so I
can tune in to a TV program and record it.

The big thing for me, is that I can then, go into my recorded shows and see all
the listings and merely click on one to see the show.

DVDS do not work this way. I haven't been able to input my DVD movies and my
Star Trek episodes into my computer at all.

I've tried taking the output from my DVD and putting it in the same place that
the cable line went in to no avail and I have also tried putting the DVD into
my disk drive, in hopes of getting it into my iTunes, also to no avail.

I am using Jaws 10 and iTunes 8, if that info helps explain my situation any
better.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Many thanks, in advance!

The big thing for me, is that I can then, go into my recorded shows and
see all the listings and merely click on one to see the show.

DVDS do not work this way. I haven't been able to input my DVD movies
and my Star Trek episodes into my computer at all.

I've tried taking the output from my DVD and putting it in the same
place that the cable line went in to no avail and I have also tried
putting the DVD into my disk drive, in hopes of getting it into my
iTunes, also to no avail.

I am using Jaws 10 and iTunes 8, if that info helps explain my situation
any better.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Many thanks, in advance!
Vicky

Well, basically a soundfont is a wave sample used to play midi. So you can
actually have realistic sounding instruments without buying an expensive
keyboard. There very fun to play with. You can create your own sounds for
example. There are literally thousands of these soundfonts available on
the internet and I'm trying to create a midi bank with the best sound
possible.

Hope that makes sense.

Perhaps you could get the $35 version of Sound Forge to put the records
onto the hard disc in .wav file format, and then try out Depopper from

www.depopper.com
for 30 days. If you like the results of Depopper as I do, you could buy
that for just under $20. I've enjoyed Depopper for eight years now.

Thanks a lot.

Jim S's website says he has support (perhaps limited) for Sound Forge
Studio

9, as well as the full Sound Forge.

The development of his scripts for Sound Forge 10 is coming along well,
and

I find that it is a more responsive application than Sound Forge 9.

In the old days, the Sound Forge Studio version didn't provide the
(incredibly useful) presets for effects etc, which would severely
diminish

the ease and efficiency of its use.

I would have thought you'd only be offered Sound Forge 10, and maybe 9

The cheaper package is Sony Sound Studio, or some such name like that,
and
sells for the price you mention. It's a cut down version of Sound Forge

Vicki, if you just want to restore records, go to
http://www.tracertek.com/
where you will find DC-7 which will allow you to get rid of clicks, pops
and other noises. the full sound forge with the noise reduction bundle is
quite expensive.

I used to take a noise sample with goldewave and clean it up with diamond
cut. it is betterr to be set bak $100.00 instead of the $300.00 for the
sound forge.

The description sounds a lot like the Edirol FA-66 but with inputs and
