Re: Moving Music from iPod to Computer
Hi Dan, I have not done this, but here are the steps given by Anna Dresner: Good luck! Vicky 1. Connect the iPod. When iTunes opens, if you're asked if you want to sync with your iTunes library, say no, and enable disk use. 2. Use Windows Explorer to copy the iPod Control folder into the folder you use for your iTunes library. This will copy all the music, but the file names will be seemingly random combinations of letters and numbers. 3. Go to PReferences in iTunes by pressing Control-Comma. Switch to the Advanced tab in this multi-page dialog box, and check the Keep iTunes media folder Organized check box. 4. Go to the File menu in iTunes, choose ADd Folder to LIbrary, and select the iPod control folder. All the music will be added to your iTunes library, and iTunes will name all the files based on their tags, so if the title, artist and album tags are correct, the music will be named and organized correctly. - Original Message - From: dan Kerstetter dh...@comcast.net To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, October 08, 2011 2:29 PM Subject: Moving Music from iPod to Computer How do I move music from my iPod to iTunes? Re: Freedom From The Computer
Hi Lee, I am going through old mail, to see if any of it will help on my new computer. I was interested in your transmitter on the keyboard, allowing you to be anywhere around your house and still use the keyboard. Do you mean that your transmitter has a speaker? So you can hear the Jaws voice, regardless of where you are? Many thanks! Vicky - Original Message - From: Lee Mounger lmoun...@comcast.net To: PC audio discussion list. Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2011 8:03 AM Subject: Freedom From The Computer Hi Listers, A few years ago, I decided that since I was using Jaws and had no need for the screen, why should I have to be tied to the computer to use the computer. Here's what I did. I connected an FM transmitter to the sound card of my computer and now use a small FM radio or my Sansa mp3 player which is tiny and equipped with FM to hear Jaws or anything else from the sound card. Then I bought an RF wireless keyboard with a range of a hundred feet or so. The keyboard is small and light and with a transmitter built in. The keyboard's receiver plugs into the USB port of my computer. With this combination, for probably the last five years, unless I have to load a disc or do something physical on the computer, I compute wherever I want from bed, to the living room, to the kitchen, etc. My only problem is that because it's an RF keyboard, I sometimes have to physically adjust the keyboard receiver's little antenna at the computer depending on where I am in the house. So here's my question. I haven't done anything with Bluetooth and I know some of you are much more knowledgeable about this technology. Is anyone doing the same thing I'm doing with Bluetooth? I think I need a longer range, Class 1, wireless Bluetooth keyboard. Does anyone know where I could buy such an animal? There seem to be plenty of infrared or short-range wireless keyboards out there but the first question from well-meaning sighted computer people is, why would you want a wireless keyboard anywhere too far to see the computer screen, grin. Of course the answer is that you probably wouldn't unless you were a visually impaired person using a screen reader so it's kind of a niche problem. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Re: TV cards
Hi Elizabeth, My TV tuner card gets its signal or input from my cable. Therefore, my cable package controls the cost and channels I can watch through my card. My card is an Adaptech, but I think they are no longer available, since I have looked for them, when I found out that my second input wasn't working. One reason I thought I might like a satlight signal, was for the better music selection. For now, I content myself with the pitiful few radio channels I can receive through my stereo and through the stations available on iTunes. There is a thing in goldwave that will attempt to reduce vocals, but it's hit or miss. It all depends on what sort of music it is. If it was recorded, lets just say ballpark, 1964 or so, then they were putting two track on one cannel and two on another with the vocal, like the beatles early stuff. However, the issue really comes in when you have a stereo recording where the channels match. Now what you could do is, and please correct me gang if I've got this a bit bassackward, but couldn't you theoretically invert the phase of the channels? I know in the stereo section of goldwave's effects menu there is a channel mixer. But as far as specifically isolating, say, the flute part from the flute and harp concerto by mozart, that's not too easy if the recording is mixed in both channels. If you happened to have some old recording in the 4 track format described above, then maybe you could digitize that and invert the phase of the channels. So the really long short answer is, kinda sorta not really. It would depend if you wanted complete and utter isolation of an instrumental track. But wait, there's more! If you've stuck it out with me thus far, then I just thought of another idea. Could you get a midi track of the song you want and then put it into a sequencer like sonar with the caketalking scripts? Then yes you truly could hear the flute part to the flute and harp concerto. It wouldn't be Galway or whomever playing it, but it would be a start to learning the material. So, those are my thoughts for whatever they are worth. If that helped at all, then cool. If it just kind of put you to sleep, then, well everyone needs some way to sleep. And if you stopped reading awhile back then, you're not reading this anyway. VLC help Please?
Hi, Hopefully someone may be able to help with my inconsistent results in using VLC to watch DVDS. I have tried the internet for help, but every time I clicked on a page that I thought would help, it responded that, that page was no longer available! Very frustrating. I am using Jaws 11 on a Windows XP computer. Sometimes the following steps work, but never never more than once a day. 1. I put the DVD in and shut the door. When VLC comes up as a choice, I hit Enter. Pres ALT followed by the right arrow to the Play menu and press Enter. Arrow down to Title and hit Enter. Arrow down to the title of choice and hit Enter. Press the Spacebar to start. Now, as I said above, this works occasionally on the first try, but never on a second try the same day, let alone just after seeing the first title and wanting to see the second title. If I do these same steps again after the first title, it has never worked! Can someone tell me how I can get consistent working results? My deepest thanks! Spin It Again Help Please?
I would like to use Spin It Again V2.5B to clean up some recordings that I have made in the past. I have read the help files and they are quiet on how to pick and load a preexisting file to be worked upon and cleaned up. If I want to take something that I had previously input into iTunes, but now want to take it and refurbish it with Spin It Again, How do I do that? I also have some CDS that were made of my records, but before I had Spin It Again, How can I make these tracks load into Spin It Again to be cleaned up? Many thanks for any help! VCR2PC. but the software calls it VHS2PC. but does the same thing. it is a video player like you have at home with the tv but the only exception it has a USB port to connect to the computer. it uses a program called. Ion Easy converter. and the video is made by a company called Ion. it is windows 7 and windows vista and xp supported for drivers. very easy to install. for a while I was wanting my sighted partner to click on the buttons, convert etc. but recently was playing with it and found there are short cuts that work but not in the normal way example. to get to the convert button that takes you on to the video monitor so you can preview what you want to record before recording as you can watch it in live play before recording as well. to get to the convert button, would be difficult without the short cuts as the hole interface isn't blind friendly. so to get to the convert button you have to do the following. Alt+C. this puts you on the convert button, then you have to press enter. this takes you in to the video monitor screan. as previously said. now just put your video in and press play on the video. now your screan behaves like a normal tv. but in a small box whilst streaming through the program. when you want to record anything playing just find the place on the tape. then press spacebar. now your in the title box. delete what's in the box, normally it says, title here. now type what you want to record the name for it. now it is easier. when your ready to record just press. Alt+R. followed by enter. now this starts recording. to stop recordingv.press. alt+S. it will ask you to conferm that you want to stop recording. now press Alt+Y. then enter. now it is saved. and the default place it saves is, my video's and when you open it you can use any program that plays video. I think off the top of my head it can save as AVI or MPG. don't try and play MPG in windows media player as windows media player won't do it. winamp loves these types of files. don't have a moddle number to hand at the moment but they only do one type that does it - Original Message - From: Victoria Vaughan vrvaug...@mailzone.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2010 7:37 PM Subject: Re: Converting vhs to dvd Hi John, My name is Vicky. I've contacted Tascam, let them know my idea, they're interested, but wonder how many blind people would buy one. A stand alone unit would be more stable than a Mac or PC based software set up, and much less costly. I'd like to compile a list of all interested individuals. If I can show Tascam, or Korg, or Yamaha, that such an item would have marketability, development may take place. I mentioned Victor Stream and Book Sense and Olympus as examples. The technology exists, it's just a matter of putting it in one unit. We just need to convince the right manufacturer that speech added to a multi track recorder is worth their time producing one. I would also like to propose this idea to other blind community users groups. Re: Synchronizing Metadata with MP3 Stream
Hi, I wasn't sure from your message, weather you know the name of a DVD playing software that synchronizes subtitles with the running program, or not. If you do have a name or names, would you write back with them? Many thanks. Imagine an MP3 file you want to stream which has many songs embedded in it. Think of a podcast with many sections, or a music show with many songs being played during the course of the program. As you know, an MP3 file can have but one set of metadata in it which gets transmitted when the file starts playing. I'm wondering if there is a program or plug-in for Winamp which can play a file and, through use of a file similar to the .SRT files for DVD subtitles, display, or cause to be displayed, changing metadata at various points in the program. If there is such a thing, or if anybody knows who might be interested in developing such a thing, I'd be interested in communicating with them. Heard something listneing to a radio stream and you wish you had your recorder running to capture that moment of momentos importance? Not to worry, Ootunes would have caught it for you if auto recording was enabled. Every stream is recorded and you can tell Ootunes how many recent recordings to keep, the default is 2. So you want to keep that recorded stream? Double-tap on it in the recordings list - you can identify it by stream or station name - and use the buttons to manipulate it, save it, email it or whatever, if you have an Ootunes account you can upload it and put a link up to the recording on your twitter or email it to a friend. I got all excited over a system sold by DAX.com, only to be told, when I called, that it is completely inaccessible. Then I open the file and use the effect called TimeWarp to slow the song down without changing the pitch to about 70 percent the speed of the original. All the instruments are still there but it is easier to break out the note for note playing that way. That method is still really time consuming since allot of the leads are so fast that they are still really dificult but at least it is doable. If I slow down beyond 60 pct or so the song gets pretty garbled and that is not good either. My guess is there is some way to slow down a song to perhaps 50 percent and either keep a song clean or something might be able to clean it up but I don't know what might be used since I am new to all this stuff myself. I found the manual online but it didn't have anything about the audio capture. If you want to record a stream like an online station you can play the station then turn on the audio capture. Set the settings but don't check the box to have it start automatically. Just enter on the start button and it wil start recording. If you have a stream that is a certain length rather than an online station open the audio capture, set it up plus check the box fo r it to start automaticallly. then hit cancel. Then when you start the definite stream the audio capture will come up. There you can see what title it gives it plus all the other info. It will also stop automatically at the end of the stream. Re: a question about joint stereo and normal stereo
Hi, When you say, Better separation, does this separate voices into one speaker and the music into the other? I wouldn't like that. However, when I had a base and treble equalizer, I could bring specific sounds into prominence, which I really liked. Sadly, it died. That is not really the problem. Your problem lies in the fact that your televsiion system is NTSC which is a lower definition format than PAL. That is to say, NTSC has a fewer lines per screen than PAL. However, you have 3 alternatives. If you want to play the dvd on a computer, you can get a program which will convert PAL to NTSC. You may also be abel to use a ripping program to convert the prograam to A V I format and watch it in windows media player. If you want to play it on a DVD player, firstly check your TV to see if it will accept PAL signals. This is unlikely but some of the higher end models do and adjust automatically. If not then consider buying a small hardware device which will do the conversion for you. The last time I looked, you could get one for about $100. Thirdly, depending on where you live, you may find a local company which will copy the DVD and convert it to NTSC for you. This would involve a small fee but it may prove the cheapest alternative. My Google searches have led to confusing results on the question of whether a stand-alone DVD player or a PC can handle the format. Does anyone on this list happen to know if any devices in the U.S. can handle PAL? We contributed research to this documentary series and would love to find out what came out of it. Am I correct in thinking that if I were to download a movie from iTunes, it would be in MP4? If I were to put my videos or DVDs of home made or professional make on to computer, is it the function of the video capture device and its software, to convert these signals into MP4? When my video TV tuner card records a program I'm watching and puts it in Windows Media Center, how do I find out, if it is in MP4? Many thanks to whom ever can answer my questions! I have looked in my device tab and see a couple of input devices but nothing about what you hear or my speakers or anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Thought I'd write a little report on my progress so far with this application and the word to best sum up my report is promising. When you open the Multiquence application you're presented with a new track window, you can record here, create a new track, or whatever. On examining the screen with the mouse pointer in Window-Eyes - and I assume the same will hold true with the JAWS cursor in JAWS - you'll notice a few graphics in the window, these have labels next to them so using the auto label graphics feature or whatever will easily identify them so they can be saved in a graphics diction associated with the application. You'll see a timeline, this will be set to 0 if you have no data in the track, if data is in the track then clicking here will bring up an edit box, type in the time you want and press enter, things like the time line can be clicked on or have context menus associated with them if you right-click, a context menu will appear if it exists for that function or tool. Tracks are listed near the bottom of the screen in order, when the application is opened you're in Track 1, pressing shift-insert will Create a new track so this will be Track 02, using the navigation shortcut or clicking on the track name will put that track into focus etc. Have to take a break from my exploration of Multiquence for a while but I'll be back at it as soon as is possible smile, I hope that other people on this list will be curious enough to try the software and report back with what they find, the more people obviously who work with a piece of software then the better understanding everyone can have of what the application does and how it does it, how to access it and so on. Hi folks, I am hoping someone will be able to help me figure out how I can improve my video recording and DVD watching. I have a Media Center laptop computer, running XP Professional. A USB Adaptec TV Tuner card is attached so I can tune in to a TV program and record it. I haven't been able to input my DVD movies and my Star Trek episodes into my computer at all. I've tried taking the output from my DVD and putting it in the same place that the cable line went in to no avail and I have also tried putting the DVD into my disk drive, in hopes of getting it into my iTunes, also to no avail. I used to take a noise sample with goldewave and clean it up with diamond cut. it is betterr to be set bak $100.00 instead of the $300.00 for the sound forge. - Original Message - From: Victoria Vaughan vrvaug...@mailzone.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, October 13, 2009 3:20 PM Subject: Re: Sound Forge Versions/names; what they should cost approximately;and which version should I get that is the most accessible (version8,9, or 10) Ah, well, too bad.
