Matthew, from this, do I take it for an XP home system there are no drivers?

Please can you send me the site address?

RE: External sound cards

2010-02-06 Thread André van Deventer
Hi folks

A question for you folks who know much more about USB soundcards than I do.

In about 2003 I think I bought an Emagic emi 2/6 soundcard to use on a
laptop. This was shortly before Emagic was taken over by Apple and all
windows development for Emagic products was sumarily halted. Luckily bef
ore this drivers for this soundcard was optimised for Windows XP.

The thing cost me about $1000 at that time!

My question is whether hardware has changed much during the last 7 years and
whether this may still be considered a professional soundcard or not?

Just curious.

External Sound Cards with Windows Vista

2009-09-07 Thread Caroline
Hi everyone. With the limitations that Vista has with some sound cards when
trying to record using the What You Hear or equivalent options, I'm curious.
Would connecting an external sound card allow me to get around this or would it
have the same problems? My current internal sound card has an option to record
from multiple sources at once, however, when I change to that setting, it'll
record JAWS but not my microphone, and I want it to be able to record
everything. Thanks for any thoughts.

You can run two internal cards at once. Try to work with your screen reading
tech support. Jaws users change the jaws ini file, but I don't know what
product you are using.

If you want an external card, by all means, get one. However, several people
run two cards internally--sometimes the audio on the board and another
internal card.

Re: External Sound Cards

2006-05-22 Thread Jerry Richer
Andy! Sound Cards, whether internal or external have nothing to do
with amplifiers and speakers. The Sound Card just provides a line level
signal appropriate for an amplifier to boost enough to power speakers. Do
you mean something like a USB sound system that would effectively include a
sound card, amplifier and speakers? If so, then the sky is the limit and
they get as professional as you could want.

External Sound Cards

2006-05-21 Thread Andy Logue
Hi all.

My knowledge and experience of sound cards is limited to internal cards
which I have had on my last few computers. So please excuse this question
if it sounds a bit daft. Are there sound cards available which can replace
my 75 watt per channel hi-fi and 20 inch speakers? Or are sound cards
limited to a lower spec? I'm asking because I need to upgrade both my
computer and my hi-fi shortly and I was thinking of combining both, but only
if I can get really good quality high wattage sound. Any advise would be
very welcomed. Best wishes. Andy.

Re: External Sound Cards

2006-05-21 Thread Brian Olesen
HI,
What you can do is to get an spdif converter for your pc, typically just a
sound card with this feature.
Then you can have a physical amplifier and connect this to your pc. Then you
make your converting from digital to analog outside the computer and should
there by be able to reduce noise and such.

If you just mean weather or not there is a sound card with a very powerfull
output I don't think so.

Best regards
Brian
