Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-11 Thread Ron or Susan Denis
Well, not using JAWS, I'm guessing here but I don't think it is a JAWS
issue. I think you have checked inadvertently or otherwise the mute
recording check box when setting up the recording. When I use the enhanced
sound card driver, all sounds come through the computer including speech,
but only the stream is recorded. I do have my sound card set in the control
panel or sndvol32 to use my sound cards drivers and not the replay radio
drivers for both recording and playback. Replay doesn't seem to mind, all
other sounds seem to work a bit better, and I can still use the enhanced
soundcard selection when making a recording of a stream. So, assuming
something else isn't doing this in your system, check to be sure you haven't
checked the mute box in your scheduled recordings. I believe it is on the
4th or 5th tab of the show's properties sheet. My inclination is to think
it is on the fifth tab, but I'm not quite sure and don't want to stop here
to call up the program and look for it. You can easily do that yourself.

I did turn that on. What I want is to be able to do what I can with the TV
recording program I use, and that is to have it record quietly in the
background while I'm able to do other things. Boy what a mistake that mute
option can be, at times it doesn't reset to unmute, not easy to make a
hotkey to do that, I'm sure.

Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-10 Thread Brent Harding
Why won't replayradio do this when using it's enhanced driver? When it
silences, it silences everything, and then it's real hard for me to get my
jaws back speaking, as it sometimes doesn't unmute when its done. TR made my
system pretty much play one source at a time, and I thought it wants to be
set as default so you will still record jaws, and the stream will likely be
prevented from playing, unless I'm one of the few that it partially blows up
on, but not to the point quite where I need sighted help.

Hi, Ann. The only way I know to record streams without capturing software
speech that you generate while using the computer is to use Total Recorder
and to use its software recording option, which works splendidly for most
and terribly for a few people. In addition, when capturing mp3 streams, I
am able to silence the stream so that I don't even hear it while it's
playing if I want to, allowing me to use the computer uninterruptedly
 while
 recording.

I just have to try this screamer radio thingy, I even went through the
hastle of getting shell space on a linux server to try to capture acbri, and
I tried on reece's peeces for a month straight and recorded two hours of
backup stream, I tried having it wait until a couple after 12 to make sure
the show should be under way and it still did it even though I verified the
show to be active in winamp. I hope Screamer will work better, now if I
could get it on a schedule.

It sure would be nice if one could get eloquence or something good for sapi,
as Microsoft Sam leaves a lot to be desired. I wonder why jaws doesn't honor
the device setting set for voice in the speech control panel in XP? That

I can force it to the onboard one.

The windows media ones probably don't, usually not available. I don't think
the media player encoder allows for title streaming, and most FM
broadcasters probably don't play out with media player as it doesn't
crossfade, and winamp doesn't do scheduling and a whole bunch of other
things they may need.

hi. I think it depends on the stream you're listening to. Most times I
 can
just look at the title bar and it at least tells me the station I'm
listening to, but like I said it all depends on which station you're
listening to. Some will tell the title and artist of the currently
 playing
 track, some don't.

Re: Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-10 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have a question about recording streams with total recorder,
and that is, that I wish there were a way to start recording at a
certain place of either a stream, or an mp3 file, and it seems the only
way to do this is with the on board sound, but I tried recording with
on board sound, and got nothing, and the way total recorder is set up,
a stream can't be running before you start total recorder to record,
and I was wondering, if there was a way to change this, or, if there is
a program that will automatically convert on the fly to mp3 that will
let me do this. I can use mp3 clip, but on my system, it back tracks
about a half second from where I pause winamp, so, kind of like a
regular cassette recorder, I want to be able to start recording at a
particular point. I'm using total recorder 5.2, windows 98 se, 192
megs of ram, window-eyes 5.5 beta2, and a 400 megs processor if any of
this information helps.

Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-08 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. I think it depends on the stream you're listening to. Most times I can
just look at the title bar and it at least tells me the station I'm
listening to, but like I said it all depends on which station you're
listening to. Some will tell the title and artist of the currently playing
track, some don't.

2005-10-07 Thread Dean Martineau

Hi, Ann. The only way I know to record streams without capturing software
speech that you generate while using the computer is to use Total Recorder
and to use its software recording option, which works splendidly for most
and terribly for a few people. In addition, when capturing mp3 streams, I
am able to silence the stream so that I don't even hear it while it's
playing if I want to, allowing me to use the computer uninterruptedly while
recording.

How do you get total Recorder to ignore the software speech? I have the
program, but can't figure that out, and I have it set to use the Software
option when recording.

2005-10-07 Thread russell Bourgoin
Hi Ann,

If you don't need to do anything else while downloading and
recording your stream, you can turn jaws or we off. With total
recorder, I usually launch the program, get my stream started, alt
tab back to total recorder, shift tab to the record button, alt tab
to the screen reader, turn it off, and focus is returned to where you
were in total recorder. Then you just press space bar to start
recording. Sounds like a lot but its quite simple.

2005-10-07 Thread Kevin Cussick
Hi,

Yes that's fair enough it's a shame I won't use it then I just need a
program that will record from the bbc and I can use my computer at the
same time and this program did all that but I really only listen to
the bbc thanks again.

Hi. Screamer radio doesn't support real audio streams because of
licensing.

Hi
Screamer Radio
http://www.screamer-radio.com
will do this. it records directly from the stream itself so no
worries
about software speech coming through. and best of all, it's not only
accessible with screenreaders, it's also free. You can't beat that.

   Hi folks,

Is there a way, with one soundcard and a program like Total
Recorder (or
some other), to record streaming content, but not hear the JFW
software
   speech on the recordings?

I know the two obvious solutions are use a hardware synth, which
I
can't
 use
any longer, or add a second soundcard, and I am also having
difficulties
   there, too.

   Thanks in advance.

   ~Ann

Re: Recording streams and not software speech

2005-10-07 Thread Ron or Susan Denis
you can do this with replay-radio using the enhanced sound card option for
the input. It will record the stream while not recording system and other
sounds including software speech. RD
