RE: windows media 11 players services problems

2009-04-19 Thread Cornell Ligon

I too have the same problem. when I go to Jimsumptershow.com and click on
listen live, I get error message stating WMP cannot play the file... unknown
file type...

this began about a month ago and occurs on all my PCs. I had my wife try to
access their site via her work comp and got the same message. so I figure it's
a WMP 11 issue probably related to the windows Genuine Advantage tool.

Using windows XP and JFW 6.2.

Best Regards, Cornell

 HI.
 having some problems since yesterday.
 jaws and my system crashed.
then several reboots, figured out that volume control had muted jaws.
 so fixed that problem.
but now go tseveral stream files in windows media player and like for
 example the fivee aa.asp.
but it says that it cannot either play the requested service or says that my
 computer memory is low.
and only have got windows mail running.
 can any one help.
 how do i resolve this.
also tried to play some abc stations, and get a message saying that the
media service is having some technical difficulties.
so, any one had this problem before and how to fix this.
when for example i go to http://www.fiveaa.com.au and click on listen live,
the windows save as dialog comes up and then windows media player downloads
the saved file to a folder called docs/ documents.
but before this happened. di install real media.
but before installing, did not have to download and save these files.
 running windows vista.
 windows media player 11.
 jaws 10.0.142.
 cheers Marvin.

playing dvd's with windows media 11

2008-08-27 Thread Scott Blanks
Hi all,

From all indications, Windows Media 11 should support the playback of dvd
media, both the old school variety and hd dvd's. However, I am unable to get
wmp to play back the audio ... video may be coming through but I have no sight
so ...

I've set up wmp to be the default player for dvd media, and I've also made this
the action the drive should perform when a dvd disc is inserted.

wmp does open, but no sound is forthcoming. I can locate the list view
indicating the correct name of the dvd disc, but I can get no further.

Help me end my long separation from dvd movies. I'm going through withdrawal!

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hi Scott,
Can you hear the audio when you play any other content in Windows Media Player?
Like an MP3 file for instance. I have a similar problem, where video is playing
on the screen but there is no audio. This happened when I upgraded to WMP11,
and downgrading to WMP10 did not fix the issue. I use Winamp for playing media
files though, and Power DVD to play DVD's, so if you cannot fix the problem
there are 2 pieces of software that may be useful to you.

windows media 11 file associations

2007-03-07 Thread don bishop
I asked this question yesterday with no response, so let me try
again and hopefully state the problem more clearly.

I have a desktop machine running Windows Vista and Windows Media
Player 11. I prefer winamp, so installed it on the machine and
under file types I selected all for the file associations.

If I play mp3 files from within wimamp they play just fine, but if
I simply hit enter on the file I want from windows explorer, the
file plays in windows media.

I can't seem to find the place in wmp 11 to change the file
associations settings in order to prevent wmp from automatically
play the mp3's.

Does anyone know how I can get the files to play automatically in
winamp?

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don,

I don't know about Vista, but, in XP, you can go to the control panel,
folder options, file types tab, down-arrow to MP3 and specify the program to
use when opening the MP3.

Vista must have something similar.

From my standpint, the difference is an extra 1 isntead of a zero, but I
haven't used it enough to really say, except to say that from an
accessibility standpoint the differences seem minor if they exist at all.
