Winamp and the CDDB

Where in Winamp is automatic lookup from the CDDB when you insert a CD
controlled? I want to turn it off but have forgotten where that
option is.

Thanks in advance.

problem with CDex and the CDDB

2008-08-31 Thread Terra Syslo
I am having a problem with CDex trying to retrieve the disc information from
the remote CDDB. It is happening on every disc where it immediately says no
match found. I just started having this problem last night. I've tried
disabling my firewall, and that didn't seem to help. Winamp retrieves the
track information when I listen to the CD, but I don't know how to import
that information into CDex. I really don't want to manually type in all the
track names and album title and everything, when it was working right
before. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My first experiment would probably be to simply reinstall CDex without
uninstalling it. Perhaps the data base problem will repair itself that way.

It's just a suggestion and, if you haven't already done it, I hope it works.

The button to access the CDDB does not seem to be accessible by tabbing around.
The only way Jaws could find it was with the Jaws cursor.

Did anyone find this? I did have a problem with the install but eventually it

Very strange...I'm running 5.5 and haven't had this particular
problem...Although, on my system, it now appears to be called MusicID From
Gracenote, instead of CDDB.

In fact, I just popped in a CD now, clicked the MusicID button from my

Hi Don.

To configure the CDDB in CDEX, press function key F4 to open the settings
dialogue. Locate the remote CDDB tab and tab to the e-mail address field.
Enter your e-mail address and then tab to OK. Press enter to save your
settings and you should find that CDEX will start searching the CDDB
immediately - assuming you have a CD in the drive of course.

seem to have Windows-style menu lines with File menus. And if I launch Nero

hi Donald, in settings you have two cddb pages.
1 is the local cddb page, this is where the names styles and other
information is stored usually it resides in my music.
the second page is the remote cddb page, if you put a tick in the auto
connect to remote cddb box, when you put a cd in, it will search for any
artists matching your cd.
that's all you really need to do, and it should work with Nero too, although
I use roxio myself, and that uses the grace notes cddb.

Hi,
What do you mean by calling CDDB grace notes? I play and read music, so

So why do you refer to CDDB as grace notes?

Thanks. Always interested to learn new technical expressions.

What you see on the outside is nothing compared to what's on the inside.
As I said, Gracenote CDDB has allot more error checking applied whereas FREEDB
is... well... open slather, just take a look at FREEDB sometimes and see how
many matches you'll find for CD'S and (even then) allot of those matches found
don't follow the track list which appears on the cover.

Gracenote is better without a shadow of doubt because of its error checking
however both (in my experience) have inconsistencies so one should never rely
on either, wherever possible or (if in doubt about a track listing) then scan
the CD cover yourself and make the data entry into your CD ripper.

Re: Gracenote CDDB

2005-01-29 Thread Peter Scanlon
Well, the Gracenote CDDB requires a software writer to pay a licence fee
and has more stringent rules about their licence. The Freedb seems to be free.

I find that more of the CD's that I put into the system come up on the
Gracenote one. But I simply want to have the option to find it in one if it
does not find it in the other database.

Preferably a software ripper that will either read from Winamp or allows
access to both.

As I recall, CDEX could access Gracenote CDDB until the Gracenote company took
it over, Gracenote now charge an access fee for the service so that's why many
CD Rippers are unable to access it.

I've asked this before, with no succes.

Is there a ripper that is accessible and uses the Gracenote CDDB besides
 Winamp?

That's right! the Gracenote CDDB is checked for errors (or supposed to be
checked for errors) whereas FREEDB is not.

does not find it in the other database.
Preferably a software ripper that will either read from Winamp or allows access
to both.

CDEX, CDDB

2004-11-15 Thread stever2525
It has been mentioned that there is more than one CDDB site. Is there any
way when CDEX doesn't have the information available, but I find it with
Roxio, or Winamp, etc, is there anyway I can access the alternate CDDB sites
and have it apply using CDEX, so I don't have to burn a CD with one of the
other programs, then rip using CDEX. That works, but there's got to be an
easier way.
   thank you

Re: CDEX, CDDB

2004-11-15 Thread Kevin Lloyd
In the remote CDDB tab of CDEX there is a query sites button that will scan
for all CDDB sites and add them to the available list. I don't know exactly
what criteria it uses but it added over 20 sites when I was looking at it.
May be worth you taking a look at this.

CDDB problem

2004-10-26 Thread stever2525
Hi, this is Steve. This is inconsistent. when I use CDEX, Usually when I rip
a CD to my hard drive, the CD information is available, other times it's
not. On some of the CDs that I can't retrieve the information from, if I
open CD Creator/roxio, the information is available. If I make a .cif of
that CD, then insert the copy in the drive, open CDEX, the information is
available. That's too many steps to get the information to CDEX. I checked
my settings and CDDB under CDEX is working.
Now, after that confusing explanation, what can I do? thank you

2004-10-26 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi,
There are 2 different databases.
cddb and freebe or something like that. So the 2 programs might use 2
different bases, so if you're not lucky with the one maybe the other has the
data.

Best regards
Brian

cddb and winamp

2004-06-07 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Hello. I am running winamp 2.90. A few weeks ago I had a serious crash and
had to reinstall everything. In the p c days, prior to crash days, I had
the cddb installed with winamp. Now when I insert a cd, winamp tells me
that cddb is not installed. Yet, I do not recall ever having installed or
activated that most wonderful feature. If I use cdex to digitize my cd's, I
can access it through their utility but it is not often as good as gracenote
which I had in winamp 2.90 in my goold ol' p c days. What have I failed to
do?

Many thanks in advance!
