Tim,

You could end the task in task manager.

control-alt-delete should bring up the task manager, use the tab key to
get to the applications tab, then find the application totalrec.exe or
what ever it is called, then end task.

Shouldn't need to do this, but it will unload total rec.

Your problem is a bug and you have to go into your processes and close
it manually. I would love a solution -- this happens to me all the
time, I just close the program either in the process tree, or with a
nice powershell command I found. Then once closed you have to restore
your system sounds, if you have them turned off in total recorder.

Not at all! Total Recorder is perfectly accessible though you may
need to label a few buttons and graphics. If you're a user of Window-
Eyes then I've created some Total Recorder set files where I've
labeled allot of graphics, labeled allot of buttons and named some
edit boxes.
You'll find Total Recorder a breeze to set up particularly now that
Version 6.0 has that Recording Wizard built-in to the functionality
of the software, this can test your recording facilities before you
start to ensure that all systems are working on your machine.

Re[2]: total recorder questions

2005-02-27 Thread Dean Martineau

Indeed, the manual states that, if most of us recommend, you only use the
total Recorder driver when the program is active, as opposed to replacing
your usual sound drivers with the Total Recorder driver all the time, that
you must start a Total Recorder recording first before the source you want
to record is launched.

As for your problems of losing speech once you start Total Recorder, the
people at High Criteria sent me a .reg file which fixed the problem. The
problem identifies JAWS, probably because that's what they've heard of. I
use JAWS, and it solved my problem, which was that I could record, but the
recording also captured software speech and I knew it didn't do this on my
other computer. I haven't looked at the file to try to see if I could
understand what it does; it could really be generic. Then again, HAL uses
a different software speech synth, right? My advice would to write to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and courteously describe your situation and ask
them for a fix. I think there's a good chance you'll get one; that's been
one of the things that has impressed me about this company.

Re: total recorder questions

2005-02-25 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Kevin,
Are you using software speech? If so, you have to realize that the stream
is one sound source and the total recorder driver essentially acts as the
second one. If you were able to use JAWS speech while running Total
Recorder through Eloquence or whatever your software speech, you would
probably have a driver conflict with RealPlayer or Winamp or whichever
program plays the stream. Only way around this that I know of is to use a
hardware synthe or a second soundcard to run JAWS. If you do this the
speech will not be recorded and you can certainly multitask. I can only
speak from my experience with Windows 98 and don't know if there is anything
about the XP configuration to allow what you want to do, but I imagine
others will comment if they have been successful running TR with software
speech. I don't think most people do.

By the way, I don't think you have this problem with on board recording
because I don't think the driver is involved. Again, the experts will
doubtless correct me if I'm wrong.

total recorder questions

2005-02-24 Thread Joanne
I have installed total recorder but it isn't the purchased version because I
wanted to first see if I could work it with Jaws before buying. I have read
the help file on how to use some of the features but would like opinions
from those who use this program frequently.

It seems from the help file that you can use total recorder standard for
recording from tapes or records. Is the sound quality good when recording
from tapes or records, or would there be a better program (either total
recorder pro or another program) for getting music from these formats?

Also wondering if total recorder only records in wav or can it record in mp3
format?

Thanks for any help.

Re: total recorder questions

2005-02-24 Thread Scott Meyer
Hi Joanne
Total Recorder sounds great both playing back streams and Cassettes. You
can only record for 30 seconds I believe in demo .
Yes you can record in mp3 but you have to download the program . you can
find a link in the help file under mp3.The difference with the professional
is you can edit files i.e delete dead air, only on cassette recording
should not happen on streaming if you have it set up right., append, split
and normalize volume. a Great little program.

Subject: total recorder questions

I have installed total recorder but it isn't the purchased version because
I wanted to first see if I could work it with Jaws before buying. I have
read the help file on how to use some of the features but would like
opinions from those who use this program frequently.

It seems from the help file that you can use total recorder standard for
recording from tapes or records. Is the sound quality good when recording
from tapes or records, or would there be a better program (either total
recorder pro or another program) for getting music from these formats?

Also wondering if total recorder only records in wav or can it record in
mp3 format?

Thanks for any help.

Well Dean..have you ever had Total Recorder not record in stereo..as..a
while back..I was trying desperately to get mine to do? As far as I could
tell, I had the settings just as they should be. Still, it insisted on
recording in mono! Haven't done anything with it of late. But every time
someone speaks of total recorder..I think to myself, Well..it's probably
a fine program; but I can't get it to work right on my computer!

Re: total recorder questions

2005-02-24 Thread Kevin Shields
Joanne I have had total recorder for 2 years and I love it. I only have
the standard version. I have it set up to record and convert to MP3 on
the fly. You have to have the lame encoder in order for it to record and
convert to MP3. Marty Rimpau is one person you should contact to give
you more assistance with total recorder. And Debbie Cook can help you
also. Once you get it installed and working, you'll love it. Yes, you
can record from your sound card, as well as from the internet. The
product is very blind friendly.
Hope this helps.
Take care,
Kevin

Hi, Joanne,
It's just fine for recording. Withj the demo version you can activate all
the features but the catch is that the program interrupts your recording
every minute with a noise you won't wanna keep unless you're really
desperate and cheap. grin There's a dialog box in which you set the length
of recording time and that goes from 15 seconds up to 15 hours.

grateful.

RE: total recorder questions

2005-02-24 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Kevin, first, make sure in the record source parameters dialog,
that the radio button selected is software, and not sound board, or
what ever the second button is called, then, you will probably want to
convert on the fly to mp3, and to do this, check the check box that
says record using specified parameters below, and also check the check
box that says remove silent gaps, prevent internet transmission check
box, so that when your stream buffers, it will not be recorded. Then
tab to the change button, and press the space bar, and from the
formats, select mpeg3, and 56k is a good bit rate, then press apply,
and okay. Then, from the file menu, right arrow to options, and then
press enter, and then press enter again on the settings dialog, and in
the system tab, which is the tab in that ten page tab control on the
far left, tab to the radio buttons, and select the bottom one, which
tells total recorder only to run the driver when the program runs,
then, in that same tab, check both the use directly check boxes, for
recording and playback. There are some more things, and a good
tutorial is at
http://www.acbradio.org/archives/mainmenu/mm0883.mp3
which is about an hour long, and there are other tab controls covered,
but for recording, just start total recorder, and press control r, and
the focus will change, and you will hear it say something like stop
button, or how ever your screen reader is set up. Control p is the
stop command, and control u pauses the recording. Hope this
information helps, and incidently, you need to start recording before
you start your player of choice, or total recorder won't record.

Hi there ???

If you are thinking of copying your old records and tapes to mp3 files, by
using the Line-in on your computer, why not consider Goldwave. It only
costs around £25 and there jaws scripts available. You can check it out at:

http://www.goldwave.com/

Best wishes

As for recording in stereo, since most of what I record is spoken word
material, I confess to not having tackled that issue. Perhaps one of the
other Total Recorder users can comment on whether they have succeeded in
making a stereo recording.
