Sorry, this was targeted to the question about how to extract exactly
one single cycle of a recording of a periodic waveform. I don't know how

build a pitch-shifter, but I rather would go for the pase-vocoder way

Not yet tried it myself, but what about writing live input to
 a table
(for instance with [tabwrite~]) in order to have access to the
 audio
data with message based objects? With those it should be
 fairly easy to
the detect the exact position of a zero crossing. For finding
 a single
cycle, it would be sufficient to find a positive crossing -
 for
instance- and from there find the next one, so you have the
 exact end
 points of one single cycle.

Of course, there might be waveforms which have several zero
 crossings
per cycle, but the above approach might be a start.

I am wondering if you or anyone else could let me know how advanced the plans

I don't have the contacts in Berlin to put up something like this. But since am

Re: [PD] PdCon 2011

2010-08-19 Thread Alexandre Porres
*In the 3rd convention, if I
understood it properly, it was more scattered, more «multi-city». I say
that because I want to say that a «multi-city» collaboration is a
possibility.*

We had help from people outside of Sao Paulo (but not that many people), and
it was hard because of the distance issue, as things had to be negotiated
locally in Sao Paulo in the end. Moreover, there was a bridge between
events, and many who went to Sao Paulo got to go to another event in
Salvador.

But yep, It's a possibility, and even easier in the case of smaller
countries than Brasil (not too hard for that to happen, huh!?!).

the first, for what I heard, was much more European centered. In the case of
Canada, a bigger participation of that country and the US happened,
likewise, south america (but mostly Brasil) obviously had a good neverseen
share in the last one.

Now going back to Europe, and the issue of being multi-city anywhere there,
I don't know if I see like the case of Canada and Brasil, where a country
can or need to get together. Europe seems so unified as a whole to me that
it's just a different reality. Just to say, couldn't it even be multi
country?

I'm really happy if it can be pulled off every two years. The 3 year gap
between the first and second is too much.

The perfect is that if it could be done every year. I think the pd user
world has a demand for that. It's nice to see for the first time two efforts
for organizing the same year. Why not think of one at 2011, and another at
2012?

just an optimistic wish...

cheers

Ok Max, and other interested, I checked
http://web.uni-weimar.de/medien/wiki/Pure_Data_convention_2011

You see, maybe if you think of the event as not only a conference, that
might be evaluated by how many PhDs are going, or only held by a computer
department in a University, you might have more shots.

The event has many features, it can be seen as an art festival on new media
and technology, it has the free software appeal to it too.

I just say that because in Sao Paulo we didn't have a music department from
an Univesrity behind it (the link to the University was Digital Desing), and
we got a lot of support mainly for being an art festival, like, one main
supporter was the Museum of Image and Sound.

So maybe there are much more options in Germany if you look for
collaborations between cities, and national institutions that support this
kind of thing/festival - I have no idea how it works there so I may just
shut up already, I think you got my point...

But you mean that the __declspec info is stored in the .a, taken from the

[PD] Output a value in an array as a bang

2010-08-19 Thread João de Brito Vidigal
Hi guys! Here I am with my troubled mind!
I've been looking at this for hours and I can't seem to find an answer. I've
actually been dreaming about all this for days!
Well... Finally I made it with the list for ON/OFF values!
With some modifications on Frank Barknecht's flipper I did what I
needed... In a way!
That's what brings me here!
So, here's the thing:

When I bang ON it stores a 1 in a table without repeating the index. It
looks for a 0 to turn it to 1.
When I bang OFF it only bangs one that is already ON.
So basically the whole system 1) looks for an available slot to turn on; 2)
looks for an unavailable slot to turn off.
As I said before it stores this in a table.
What I need and can't seem to be able to do is:
when the table writes a new value that value can be output through a
bang in a corresponding index.
Lets say I have a table of 5 indexes. If index 2 changes value from 0 to
1 a bang is triggered.

It's so hard to explain... damn it! Hope you can understand!
Thanks guys! You're being saviors...

2010-08-19 Thread Mathieu Bouchard

On Thu, 19 Aug 2010, Max wrote:

a Mac 8 core machine uses one Processor with 250% for that. When

quarter of PAL one get under 100% but it still still seems like a lot.
Any Ideas why that could be?

There are several reasons, one of which being that specialised processors
can still be much faster than general processors (just look at what video
cards can do...) but it's also very possible that they downscale the image
by a factor of 2*2 (4 times faster) or 4*4 (16 times faster) before
starting to apply the face detection.

Note also that converting from GEM's YUV to RGB upscales the U and V
channel by a factor of 2 horizontally (no vertical scaling), which means
that the RGB data is a bit redundant. That's the 422 mode. For cameras
in YUV 420 mode, there's also vertical scaling, therefore, in my camera
code, I have added an option to convert directly from YUV420 to a twice
narrower, twice shorter RGB picture, for the case where the chroma
resolution is absolutely essential. It reduces a lot of waste.

I'm not counting files. I'm reading the code, and even diffing the code,

For the client, it's more complicated to tell the difference, because it's
been split into smaller files, and namespaces have been added, but when
opening random tcl files from that folder, I do recognise most of the

I know there's a more formal way to enter bugs for the GUI rewrite, but I
encountered an issue when choosing Properties for objects (In my case, a

time you open the menu again and eventually it will make its way towards
the bottom of the screen and I can't access the buttons on the bottom of the
window.

I know I can just press enter and it will exit. You do have to be selecting
Properties a lot to get to this point though. I've attached a screen shot.

Let me know if this is just a matter of changing a parameter and if I need

That should not come as a surprise since that was a clearly stated goal
of this phase of the GUI rewrite. The idea is to first rewrite the Tcl
side, touching as little of the C code as possible. The Tcl side was
rewritten from scratch, with lots of borrowing, where it made sense.

In other words, one step at a time. :)

[PD] Pd-extended 0.42.5 release candidate 5 released!

2010-08-19 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

Ok, I think this is the one! Unless someone finds a critical bug, this
version should be the final release. That means test all of your
patches, especially GOP GUIs. We've fixed a number of bugs related to
GOP, so it should be much more stable. Also included are a couple
PiDiP fixes.

There are of course many bug fixes and additions since 0.41.4, here
are some highlights:

* fixing Graph-On-Parent GUI bugs
* complete 64-bit support for GNU/Linux

Re: [PD] Dodge!

2010-08-19 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

Nice, I like the pitch tracker control! Two comments:

- it would be useful to start the pitch tracking with some sensible
defaults, rather than 0. Then people could adjust accordingly.

- pitch tracking is quite jittery, so I think some filtering will
really help the game play. Check out the mapping library. I think
you could do something like an weighted average of the past few
values, or perhaps just a [median_n 3]. Another fancier alternative
is to use some of the 'pm' physical modelling filters.

Re: [PD] Bang order entry

2010-08-19 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

With Firmata, you should either get a 1/0 with a digital input or a
range between 0-1 for an analog value.

As it is coming from the arduino firmata, the only way I know is
that the signal inputs a bang.
So I'll have 2 bangs being hit with a delay between them. this delay
depends on the speed of the body crossing the sensors and its size!
calling them bang1 and bang2, if the order is bang1 then bang2 =
coming in, if it is bang2 then bang1 it means coming out.
the thing is I think I have to pair the hits to set an order and I
just don't know how to pair them and read it to then bang an in or
an out.

what form is this coming into pd in?

If it's a list (such as (door_crossing in) or (door_crossing out))

then you could parse it down with routes

e.g.
[route door_crossing] (removes the first item in the list, if it's
door_crossing)

|
[sel in out] (the first two inlets will be a bang if it's in or out
respectively)

Not sure how else you might be getting the data into pd

 Subject: [PD] Bang order entry

 Hi again.
 Here goes another problem!

Ok. So I'm working with Arduino firmata here...
To expose to problem in a simple way, I have 2 sensors that are
detecting a door crossing.
The 2 detectors give an order to the door crossing: coming in or
going out.
Now I just don't know how I can translate that to bang 2 different
[bang( depending on if someone's comming in or going out!

Can you help me with that!?
 Thanks

[PD] selecting 1 output signal from multiple input signals

2010-08-19 Thread Johnny Ferguson

Is there an external object that will do what I'm looking for?

I am creating an ADSR object, and I need to route one [line~] object for
each phase of the envelope to [r~ $0-envelope]

I've found out that I can't have more than one [s~ $0-envelope] which
makes sense as audio rate objects have constant output and would reset
eachother, or explode (I'm not sure which).

So what I'm looking for would essentially be an audio rate multiplexer.
I could roll my own, but I hate to reinvent the wheel. I thought there
might be something like [gate~], but didn't find anything.

For the filter or the tessitura?

Yeah, the pitch tracking isn't so usable yet. But it's fun excuse to
yell at the screen!
