2010-09-17 Thread Marco Donnarumma
sorry for late reply, but it's a busy time.
However I tested again with pd-ex 42.5 rc6 compiled on Jaunty and I get the
same behaviour, pd~ does not work.

pd~-help gives me:

error: pd~: can't stat /usr/lib/pd-extended/pd

Am I missing something?

s...@sad-laptop:~$ whereis pd
pd: /usr/lib/pd

[pd~ pddir /usr/lib(
error: pd~: No such file or directory

s...@sad-laptop:~$ whereis pdextended

/usr/share/man/man1/pdextended.1.gz

[pd~ pddir /usr/bin(
error: pd~: can't stat /usr/bin/pd

thanks,

Yeah, if you have an easily reproducable bug, then its best to just go
ahead and post to the bug tracker, i.e report bug on the Help menu.
I've never seen this one, but if you still see it, then you should
report it. And including things like screenshots is great.

Actually, it launches pd, if I go to the directory of the bin of the
compiled source.. so there's something not perfectly working with the
tidy up.

after sudo make install
1) if I launch from bin - ok.
2) If I launch from /usr/bin - that error appears.

I'll look more into it, if it is not related to my system I'll post to
the tracker.

i know see, that pd~ is looking for /usr/local/lib/pd/pd rather than

Then why is it that Miller's notes say that the GUI was completely

The idea is to first rewrite the Tcl side, touching as little of the C

borrowing, where it made sense.

With the amount of borrowing that I can see in the code, it would be more
fair to say that perhaps half of the Tcl side was rewritten from scratch,
but it would take more time to measure it more precisely.

You know, if you search-and-replace to use namespace prefixes all over,

There's a problem with your definition of comprehensive, rewrite or
GUI. It's misleading. Most of the GUI code is in files named g_*.c where
g stands for GUI, and those files are left almost untouched. There's
more I could say, but those two facts should be enough to illustrate the

I'm not counting files. I'm reading the code, and even diffing the code,
and the difference is about 2% of the C code of the server.

For the client, it's more complicated to tell the difference, because it's
been split into smaller files, and namespaces have been added, but when
opening random tcl files from that folder, I do recognise most of the
lines as being quite exactly the same that I once all read over 6 years
ago.

Hans,

I know there's a more formal way to enter bugs for the GUI rewrite, but I
encountered an issue when choosing Properties for objects (In my case, a
canvas object). I can't move the window that pops up. There's an offset each
time you open the menu again and eventually it will make its way towards
the bottom of the screen and I can't access the buttons on the bottom of the
window.

I know I can just press enter and it will exit. You do have to be selecting
Properties a lot to get to this point though. I've attached a screen shot.

Let me know if this is just a matter of changing a parameter and if I need
to post this somewhere else.

That should not come as a surprise since that was a clearly stated goal
of this phase of the GUI rewrite. The idea is to first rewrite the Tcl
side, touching as little of the C code as possible. The Tcl side was
rewritten from scratch, with lots of borrowing, where it made sense.

In other words, one step at a time. :)

I have one suggestion to the developers: at least with kde the canvas
has the color of the current theme. It's ok, no problem. Can be
prettier then the ugly old pd, but... the objects also have to have
their color according to it because it somebody likes a dark theme
with dark background he/she will not be able to see the objects
because they are always black.

Re: [PD] [PD-announce] pd 0.43 test 2 (first 'real' test version) released

2010-08-19 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner

This must be something that Tcl/Tk is doing, tying into the system's
theme. It could be changed with a one-liner GNU plugin. Here are
some examples:

I have one suggestion to the developers: at least with kde the canvas
has the color of the current theme. It's ok, no problem. Can be
prettier then the ugly old pd, but... the objects also have to have
their color according to it because it somebody likes a dark theme
with dark background he/she will not be able to see the objects
because they are always black.

Sounds like it, but I haven't seen this for myself. I'm currently
using

something pretty close to a default Ubuntu theme.

Hello,
Is the canvas color related to the desktop color scheme in a
different

way now?
On ubuntustudio, with the default color scheme, the canvas is dark
gray instead of white.
I changed the my scheme (SystemPreferencesAppearance) to
'Clearlooks', and now the canvas is -almost- white :)

Hi all,

Pd version 0.43-0 test 2 is available on:

http://crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.htm

This version features a comprehensive re-write of the GUI
(almost entirely
contributed by others!)

I'm aiming to get the final 0.43-0 out by Aug. 31.

cheers
Miller

Re: [PD] [PD-announce] pd 0.43 test 2 (first 'real' test version) released

2010-08-19 Thread Scott McCoid
This was on Mac OS 10.5.8 with 0.43-0test2.

I just tried it on 10.6.2 with 0.43-test2 without any problems. I'm able to
drag the window.

In the future, is it more appropriate to report these to the bug tracker
linked from the Help section?

 Hey Scott,

Thanks for reporting the bug, can you tell which version you are using?
Also which platform are you on?

I know there's a more formal way to enter bugs for the GUI rewrite,
but I encountered an issue when choosing Properties for objects (In
my case, a canvas object). I can't move the window that pops up.
There's an offset each time you open the menu again and eventually it
will make its way towards the bottom of the screen and I can't access
the buttons on the bottom of the window.

I know I can just press enter and it will exit. You do have to be
selecting Properties a lot to get to this point though. I've attached
  a screen shot.

Let me know if this is just a matter of changing a parameter and if I
need to post this somewhere else.
