But if not, figure you'll want to recoup the cost of printing and framing, plus the 30% the gallery gets, plus a small profit. That will probably bring you to a number close to $300 as an asking price. That's pretty much the reasoning I followed. I ended up a little higher, $350 ask / $325 min, for a couple of reasons: (a) This is the first work of mine that's been exhibited, so there's sentimental value in holding on to it. (There's a competing value of being able to say I've sold a print, but I don't really have any ambition to make a living in photography, so this factor is weaker.) (b) I don't think we'll make it to Chicago, so there's value in keeping the finished work so I can see it. Added to this is that I don't do any digital printing myself; the few digital photos I've printed have been automated Mpix-type prints. I'd like to see what a good printer like Mark can do. So, basically, yeah... I figured out what it would take to break even, then bumped it up because I'd rather have the print than break even. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

SDM in Cold Weather
Something I've been meaning to ask about. Has anyone had the experience of shooting with an SDM lens, fresh out of the bag from a warm car and into early morning air chilly enough to produce visible breath fog. This happened one morning while at the coast DA* 50~135). AF felt as though it were operating in at least cool molasses. I was attempting to track some birds in flight and had to pick them up early and try holding focus awaiting the shutter. Later in the day, I took it out into the warming sun for a few minutes and tried it again. This time it seemed to be normally quick in response. I was relieved, but made me wonder if it's starting to wimp out. K20D battery appeared to be fully charged. Any such experiences? Thanks! Re: OT Ouch
That's because they *are* nothing but minor politicians. Years ago, in the small town that I grew up in, a local businessman provided the school buses for our school district. A small business that employed maybe 1/2 dozen drivers plus himself. He was making a living at the business but not gouging anybody, either. A hot-shot young lawyer moved into town and told the school board they couldn't just hire him year after year without competing bids. The following year a large bus company with state-wide contracts out bid him and literally put him out of business. I don't know if he ever recovered financially from that. -p On 4/14/2010 10:52 AM, David J Brooks wrote: I find school boards just as frustrating to deal with as politicians. I'm not sure what that means but we have a colloquial term in German Popometer which translates to buttmeter (or perhaps buttmeasure). For example, my car has this engine shake in idle when running on LPG that is not there on 95 Octane. It's there since Subaru replaced the engine under warranty at 43810 km. Also, the pedals vibrate. It's there, it's annoying and my buttmeter picks it up because I drive that bucket every day. People at garages don't detect it for lack of reference. I guess I will have to live with it. 2010/4/14 Jack Davis jdavi...@yahoo.com: It does, and it's a bit different than what I had guessed. A drag ass is a person who refuses to go over the speed limit. ;) Right. I knew dragging ass for being slow and hauling ass for hurrying up so I was kind of guessing along those lines. Thanks for making it clear nonetheless. One of those drove me to hospital once. The people accompanying me were freaking out but he refused to be bothered or so I was told later. The hospital had to interrupt an appendix operation but they fixed me up fine.
