Re: Pentax slogan

2010-12-10 Thread Joseph McAllister
I've had the same conversation with Photo Managers at Costco, and of course the
high end Pro shops.

Rather than moving units, Pentax has always been more interested in maintaining
their price point in hopes that Canikon will lower their high Pro prices (for
better spec'd units) to undercut Pentax, leaving Pentax as the high priced
spread that the monied folk will lust after. It's not sales they want, they
want the lust…

I hope so. The deadline to have it at Dwayne's Photo is Dec 30.

Best of luck on that. Because of the XMas Rush in transporting may be
clearing up by the 25th, cross your tripods!

A quick inventory of my freezer stash produced 11 rolls of Kodachrome KR-25/36
that expired in 1997, and 8 rolls of KR-64/36 that expired in 1999. They are
currently thawing, in hopes that I can shoot that many rolls in the next 10
days or so. It's not the amount, it's finding that much subject matter within
100 miles that I don't have to hike to. The current weather patterns are pretty
solid rainGuess I'll do the nearby wetlands, the Olympic National Forest, Mts.
Rainier, Baker St. Helens. That's a lot of driving in 10 days. That's $190
for processing, plus shipping both ways.

Hmmm. I'll shoot a test roll of each ISO and ship it off tomorrow PM and hope
to get them back before I've shot the rest so I can judge whether to even have
the rest processed. Burning the film is the easy part. Having something to show
for it, harder.

Well, so I paid Pentax Israel a visit this morning. After a cup of coffee
(thank you, dear Pentax, it was just in time) on the house and 40 mins of

But... These blobs that can be seen in f/11 and smaller are still there.
Pentax rep suggested that I can submit my camera for deep clean that
involves taking it apart, etc. It wouldn't be free of charge of course,
unlike the procedure that was performed today.

Since I am still to loose a shot to these blobs (11,000 clicks on my shutter
count so far), I could really care less about them. So I thanked them and
 walked away happily.

But for sake of statistics - at least one K-7 has the blobs although I cannot
say with all certainty whether it came this way or it is a result of some
 (mis)use on my part.

I studied my K-7's sensor shot at ƒ22 at a white wall 4 feet away, lens at
Infinity. I saw no 'blobs' or 'strings of blobs. I did see a soft dirt spot
just off center that needs cleaning, but it's so soft and un-noticable on my
images at 100%. What was freaky was enlarging the center of the image as far
as Preview would go, which showed the many different colors the pixels show. At
full screen it looks as smooth as glass however.

It doesn't work as well as ICE, but I have an old Poloroid dust and

How would that work? AF-C is for predictive autofocus of moving
subjects so, by definition, it has to fire when the subject isn't in
focus (choosing the proper delay so that - if all goes well - the
subject will be in focus by the time the mirror goes up and the
shutter opens).

The K-5 allows you to prioritize focus or shooting speed in continuous
autofocus. Choosing focus priority tends to make focus lock more likely in
continuous shooting, although it's no guarantee that every frame will be in
focus.

How would that work? AF-C is for predictive autofocus of moving
subjects so, by definition, it has to fire when the subject isn't in
focus (choosing the proper delay so that - if all goes well - the
subject will be in focus by the time the mirror goes up and the
 shutter opens).

I don't think continuous autofocus is predictive. It just continues to adjust
focus as the shutter button is held down at least half way. I think that if it
were predictive, it would work only for one rate of subject movement. By
prioritizing focus over speed, it will delay firing in machine-gun mode until
it thinks it has a lock.

The K-5 has it. About AF-C, you can select between Focus
Priority and FPS Priority (meaning shutter priority).

The K-5 allows you to prioritize
focus or shooting speed in continuous autofocus. Choosing
focus priority tends to make focus lock more likely in
continuous shooting, although it's no guarantee that every
 frame will be in focus.

Re: Two more PESOs from Boris

Yes. IIRC, that is what a lot of folks complained about when you
first posted that image. My image also had a lot of very dark areas,
plus a door and a sign that got in the way from the right.
Accordingly, I cropped the hell out of it to get rid of all of that,
and just show the gelato with all the colors and the hand-written
flavor label. My conclusion is that you were correct in not trying to
eliminate the dark areas that bothered some. (besides that, you image
of course was a better one than mine to begin with.)

A layback is actually a rock climbing technique where you hook your fingers

The K-5 has it. About AF-C, you can select between Focus Priority and
FPS Priority (meaning shutter priority).

And the ist * D and K-10D, too.

Very nice. Is the color a little on the blue side? That's not a criticism, it
makes the reds really pop.

I'm not quite sure how to submit photos. The closest I can find is to find the
contact us link and send them a note. I tried that a while ago, and never heard
back. I just tried again with a link to my book preview.

Well, that's the way it's done. They should get back to you with an
'Artist's Code'. It commonly takes up to a week so, if you don't hear
back, trying again is the way to go.
