Many hours on a photo interpretation table with similar aerial pairs taught me to do away with the special stereo lenses used on the light table, unless I needed more power to look more closely at something. Are you sure of that? Doesn't it just split the frame down the middle into a left and right image? Does the format size or the field of view make any difference? Yes, it makes a difference, but not one impossible to overcome. The adapter is designed to produce left and right images covering the same field of view on one frame of film. Just using that on a smaller sensor will lose the left third of the field of view from one half, and the right third of the field of view from the other. This means the only part of the field of view in both parts is the central third. The way to compensate for that is simple; use a lens which covers the same field of view on the smaller sensor as the lens for which the adapter was designed when it is used on a full-frame sensor. I believe the adapter was designed for use with a 50mm or 55mm lens. That means you should use something like a 35mm lens on APS-C, I'd expect anything in the 31mm - 40mm range would work just fine. From: Bob W From: pdml-boun...@pdml.net [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of Stan Halpin One frequent topic here, most recently raised by John Sessoms, has to do with the kit to take on a trip, and the question of how to carry it all. I have found the solution to the second question. http://www.justluxe.com/livingluxe/reward.php?cid=1569184 If you are going to buy lens or lenses at $10,000 for a photo safari, why not a trunk to put the gear in? that's all very well for someone fulfilling their Hugh Hefner / James Bond fantasy but the designer has obviously never been a Real Traveller - there's nowhere to put cleft sticks. I've always found it most useful to turn to accounts of Real Travel when planning my own humble excursions and have recently been much encouraged by Bowman's The Ascent of Rum Doodle. In it he describes the logistics for their renowned expedition: The object of the expedition was to place two men on the summit of Rum Doodle. This necessaitated the establishment of a camp at 39,000 feet stocked with a fortnight's supply for two, so that in the event of adverse weather conditions the party could wait in comfort for an improvement. The equipment for this camp had to be carried from the railhead at Chaikhosi, a distance of 500 miles. Five porters would be needed for this. Two porters would be needed to carry the food for these five, and another would carry the food for these two. His food would be carried by a boy. The boy would carry his own food. The first supporting party would be established at 38,000 feet, also with a fortnight's supplies, which necessitated another eight porters and a boy. In all, to transport tents and equipment, food, radio, scientific and photographic gear, personal effects and so on, 3,000 porters and 375 boys would be required. He later gives great praise to the porters, who were essential for the success of the mission, and mentions that despite their short stature - few of them were above 5 feet in height - they were immensely strong and each carried a load of 1,000 pounds. I think that puts the Playboy Trunk into its proper perspective. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

GESO: A trip to Sumner and Lyttelton
Some more quake photos. We passed so many great photo opportunities but we were going visiting and in many places there was nowhere to stop anyway. http://www.multi.net.nz/quake-sumner-lyttelton/ One boulder I wanted to see was not accessible as the surrounding roads had been closed. You can see the line of shipping containers at the base of one of the cliffs, which are there to help prevent rocks from rolling onto the road. In some places they're stacked two high. The cliffs are looking dangerously unstable with huge cracks everywhere. It'll take a lot of work to sort that out. Good news today, the boil-water notice has been lifted which means the tap water has been tested and declared safe to drink. I didn't think it'd take them long so I've been drinking mostly bottled water. We'd been treating our hand-washing water with bleach, as we did last time. Considering the tap water is already chlorinated after February, the smell of bleached chlorinated water isn't very pleasant. Re: GESO: Field Day, or... how I made friends with AF-C
Cool stuff. Being a class photog of Galia for like 4 years now, I can totally relate. If you wish to see many schoolkids images from over here, give me a shout, Christine :-). On 6/18/2011 19:00, Christine Nielsen wrote: Yesterday, I volunteered at my daughter's school to take photos of the 3rd graders at field day. For the uninitiated, Field Day is a day of fun games at the end of the school year. Back when I was a kid, events included the three-legged race, maybe a game of kickball, and popsicles for all. These days, you need an army of parents to organize a plethora of outdoor activities, water games, a DJ, bouncy houses, a BBQ, *a professional Simon Says guy*, t-shirts, and of course, photographers. But, I digress... I took the k-7, and the 50-135. It was a cloudy day with off on showers. (Hooray for weatherproofing!) The goal was to capture each kid in action... I started out by pre-focusing on a spot waiting for a kid to arrive... by the end of the day, I worked up to pre-selecting a focus point, and using AF-C to track shoot. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The only images that didn't work this way were due to user error (mis-placing the focus point, or poorly framed), or closed eyes... Hang in there, Dave. Sorry to hear of further damage, but you provide an excellent documentation of the situation. You'll have to put all your photos together for historical reference. Re: Quick Release Camera Strap
From: Godfrey DiGiorgi Most popular one of these things around here is the Black Rapid ... they have several models and options, see http://www.blackrapid.com/ for details. I learned long ago: never skimp on a strap, no matter what kind you prefer. Get the best you can find. Your expensive equipment is hanging on it. Sun-Sniper and Black Rapid R-Strap were pretty much equal for me. I actually preferred the feel of the R-Strap slightly more, but the Sun-Sniper has an embedded steel wire to prevent someone behind you from cutting your strap to steal your camera. Knowing I would be traveling where that might be a problem, it gave the Sun-Sniper a slight edge. - No virus found in this message. Debbie and I spent the weekend at Virginia International Raceway for a series of amateur/small team motorcycle races. I usually present street scenes in monochrome, but some photos require colour. I think this is one of them: http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/coffee-driven.html Another shot taken from a streetcar (you may call them trams or trolleys) here in Toronto. BTW, the title is taken from the bike. Hope you enjoy. Comments always welcome. cheers, frank that's great, Frank. Belongs in a museum of sociology or something like that. RE: Vanessa Mae in Israel (no photo content)
Hi there. Two days ago I went to see Vanessa Mae perform in ancient amphitheater of Caesaria. I lucked out to get the sits in the middle of the front row... Oh, man, I hate it when that happens. Gosh, that was beautiful. Oh, the 'sits'. Sorry. Misread it. I admit that I chose not to bring a camera with me, although in retrospect I should say that I could have brought home many pictures. The light was good and my position was advantageous. Yet, I simply enjoyed her music. Somehow certain emotions that I find pleasing are now on total overload in my mind. Take a cold shower. Just so you know...
