FS Friday (posting for a friend) - K7 and some beautiful lenses
Hi All, My friend Alex Lee is selling his Pentax gear. Try as I might, I couldn't convince him not to switch to a Sony NEX camera. I've seen his gear and can vouch that he keeps it in good shape. The primary image was the fork and the background wasn't a pure enough black so I created a a copy layer, turned the original image layer off, removed the background, put an empty layer below it and filled it w/black. The saturation on the fork was increased as far as it would go to bring out the colors, then the right hand tine was selected, cut and moved to a new layer. The free transform tool was used to bend that tine and the end of it was selected, cut and pasted to a new layer so I could adjust how much would stick out of the banana. Whew!! The background of the banana image was also removed, the banana copied to yet another layer in the original fork image and resized, moved, and rotated using the transform tool until I was happy with how it looked. The text and my logo were added as the top two layers. I put the original psd here if you would like to see it in all its layered glory. Re: display bonus
It may be best practice but I never bother with best practices other than when they work for me. 2.2 gamma and the 'native white point' that everyone likes nowadays is harsh, contrasty and too blue. My calibration targets are Luminance 110 cdm^2, 1.8 gamma, 5500K white point. Why? Because when I use those targets, my prints come out indistinguishable from what I see on the display in my normal workroom lighting, which is a close match to average exhibition gallery lighting. I've never heard any complaints that my pictures don't look like they're adjusted properly from web viewers. I look at them using five different computers and displays, only one of which is calibrated, and they're all pretty close. On Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 9:56 AM, Bruce Walker bruce.wal...@gmail.com wrote: Apple themselves recommend no longer using so-called Mac gamma (1.8). It's generally considered best practice to use 2.2 gamma now for all workstations and monitors. This comes from a few webinars I've attended on colour workflows by both the Munki and Spyder folks. Don't forget to reduce the monitor brightness quite a bit before calibrating. And I don't think you'll ever get a colour match between two monitors. I think you need to choose your One Best Monitor For Editing and stick with that one. Put the Ps Lr menus on the other one. It took a bit of research, but to rotate the external display on a mac, you have to hold option and command when clicking on system preferences, then option and command again when clicking on display. The image on it didn't look wonderful at first, but finding the menu option to use mac gamma rather than PC helped, and a quick run with the sypder to calibrate it brought it right into shape. Oddly, the sypder is giving me slightly different colors on the two displays, but that may be because of the way I fudged things to get two color profiles out of the software that came with the cheapest sypder. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO - XC skiing trail
The light trail is above a skiing track, so the vertical distance between the track and the trail is the measure to go by. The skier was probably crouching a bit, so the headlamp is slightly less above the ground than you could expect from comparing to the walker. All in fridge and basement...Joe I've been making a point to shoot out a lot of my film - especially the 35mm. I have a few odd rolls of 35mm color - maybe 6 or 7 - the rest is all BW white. The Neopan SS I'm working with now expired in 2005. It has never been out of the deep freeze and has been at -15 F the whole time. I have to say... I do see some loss of contrast in it, both in terms of base fog and needing to push the development time a little. It is still usable and cold storage surely adds years to film's life - but in the end film won't last forever. I made the mistake of using some very old XPII Super on a trip a few years ago, and got barely printable negs. I also found that bags of powdered chemistry in the Kodak foil pouches have gone bad over the years - I tossed three bags of D76 that had turned dark brown before finally getting a good one last week. So - I'm hoping to use up all the film and chemistry I have on hand and just buy fresh in the future. - MCC -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Here's how it was done - eight layers in PSE... The fork and banana were shot separately on a black background. It's about 10MB :) http://studio1941.com/bananas/forkbanana_edited-1.psd -p On 4/9/2012 6:57 PM, Darren Addy wrote: The image that struck me (at small size) the most, and the one I still have the most questions about (as in i'm intruigued is Don't Go Bananas by Paul Sorenson. There's something about those colours. I like how the combination of film used and age have given it a slight bluish tint. Going thru the thousands of images was a revelation to me - who are these people and why did I keep these images? Let me know what you think.
