Dan, thanks for posting, it was fun. Awkward text on a variety of things can be found even in the US. It is frequent at oriental (or some other ethnic) restaurants whose owners are not English native speakers (and don't bother to get the menu proofread). But it also happens with the owners who are English native speakers (but obviously not writers). I just saw the menu of this new (to me) franchise: http://mooyah.com/menu_nutrition/ This one is subtle: with burgers, they serve fires, salads, kids and shakes. :-) I always suspected that kids are much better with an applesauce, so they include it here. :-) Cheers, Igor -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OT- Student Exhibition Appeal
Hi Listers, Begging hat on - my son Stefan is in his second year at London South Bank University (BA Hons Digital Photography) and his class is having an exhibition in early December. Last year, things like exhibitions were paid for by the Uni, but this year (presumably in an effort to get the students to start organising their own displays from scratch) the Uni is funding half of the exhibition space, the students have to find the rest! This evening half a dozen of them are bag-packing at a local supermarket, for instance. They need to raise a couple of hundred quid - already some parents have donated, including me. If there are any listers out there with a spare few bucks who would like to put it towards a good photographic cause, may I invite you to donate? In return, you will of course be invited to come along to have a look over wine and cheese (Thurs Dec 11th for 2 days in London) or if you are indeed not in the UK, I will shoot some video of the exhibits and post them for you to see the venue your donations helped procure. Many thanks as always - and please don't give if you can't afford it! I have been in both situations personally. Nothing worse than where I would have loved to have given to help a good cause, but literally didn't have two farthings to rub together. I know what it's like - your good thoughts here are enough. For those that are able, think of it as a group hug :-) Donations via Paypal gratefully received by the exhibition treasurer: ste...@seeingeye.tv Best, Cotty -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__Broadcast, Corporate, || (O) |Web Video Production --www.seeingeye.tv _ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: Any probs remaining with K-3? YES
The good news: My 3rd K-3 seems perfectly fine and came preloaded with the latest firmware. The 55-300 replacement is also looking like an ok copy. The bad news: the grip doesn't work, which is probably why flashing the firmware locked the 2nd camera. Going to send this 20-40 ltd in eventually to Precision to see if they can fix the slight decentering. I've kind of become attached to this copy for some reason. The rendering is awesome. Re: Image Backup while on the road
Sorry, little wisdom to offer. ... When I travel I usually take my laptop and a portable hard drive to back up images as I go. I keep one copy on the laptop, another on the portable drive and I also ensure that I don't reuse any full SD cards until all images are safely transferred to my home storage. I do much the same, though I don't usually keep files on the SD cards, just laptop and external hard drive. On this trip I've run out of laptop space so now the two versions are those on the SD card and those copied through the laptop to the external. Like you, I would like to forget about the laptop, and I hope you come to a good solution to share with us. Stan However... My wife and I are planning a trip to the north-west of Australia next autumn. It's too far to drive and I wouldn't be confident of driving on many of the roads in the area anyway. So, we'll probably take a package tour with one of the operators in that area. This means that the amount of luggage will be restricted and taking the laptop may not be feasible, although I'll have my Samsung tablet. Looking at backup options I'm considering one of the new portable hard drives that have a built-in card reader (eg. Western Digital's 1TB My Passport Wireless). At $250, it's more expensive than I'd like but perhaps it's the best way. Alternatively I could take several USB sticks, but that would mean copying full cards to the Samsung tablet and then copying them back out to the USBs. Pretty tedious but it would probably work as long as I'm careful not to mislay the little buggers. Another possibility would be to connect a portable hard drive to the Samsung tablet but as far as I can make out, that's not possible, at least with an unpowered drive. On Nov 17, 2014, at 2:49 pm, Brian Walters wrote: Are there any other alternatives that I've overlooked? Brian, There are dedicated photo backup devices with built-in card readers. The advantage of these devices is that they process the files themselves, and some even do a verification (checksum and/or the full file). Also, they have a rechargeable battery, so you can backup on the go, without being plugged into the wall. I've used an older model Hyperdrive while it was still reasonable, but then it was outdated because of the size of the HDD that it could support. The latest model is here: http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive/UDMA-2/ I looked at it 1-2 months ago, - and unfortunately, it is not USB-3, which means it is relatively slow for transfer to the computer. I suspect it is not the fastest for the transfer from the cards but it is still very reasonable. The price tag is not very small, but it might still be better than less-intelligent HDDs with just a reader. BTW, this model allows to preview the photos, and it even understands some RAW format files, - I am not sure if that includes Pentax's RAW, but it should work with DNG. Note, that these drives are also available from other resellers, e.g. BH sells them. If I were buying it, I'd buy just the empty shell, and buy a 2.5 HDD separately and insert it. I did that with my older model, and it was very easy. Pentax 600/4 F* on KEH
I remember some people here, on PDML were discussing Pentax 600/4 F* lens. As far as I know, - it is rather rear... Hence, I thought I'd mention that there is one available @KEH right now. It's only $3.5K. ;-) (BGN condition) but maybe someone is interested (or BUI of LBA) ... Re: Pentax Lens and Carl Zeiss Tie Up
Where the hell is he getting a 28/2 for $60? An f2.8 sure, but that f2 has never been cheap. Don't fret. English speakers are very tolerant. It is obvious what was meant. In SA, where English is a second language for most, they have to be! Cool shots.
