I figured that I'd just go with something like Vivitar 285hv's as a cheap alternative, since Pentax Digital and TTL didn't seem to work well together, and they have a pretty good if limited amount of manual adjustments, but the newly made ones don't seem to be all that reliable, (now, they're once again discontinued, and used units appear to be made of unoptainium), and yes I've been toying with the getting a couple of Yongnuo 560 III units, (damn I just checked and those are discontinued too), but once again user ratings point to extremely variable QA testing, or maybe no QA testing, and it seems very limited warranty support. Bottom line it seems that no inexpensive flashes are very good these days, and even what appear to be expensive flash units aren't particularly reliable either. Re: My luck with flashes
It's not just your luck with flashes. I have a pair of AF280T's one of which only works at full power, well, used to only work at full power, after sitting on the shelf for a couple of years, it's stopped working entirely. It was a replacement for the same unit that was also giving me trouble, but while I was testing it the batteries, (when has a modern battery leaked let alone three of four in a single installation), which solved my problem, and Duracell paid for replacing it. Congrats, Ken! It is a worthy set of great images that tell the story well. Re: My luck with flashes
That's odd, because if I try to press my button JUST until I can swivel, then it is also able to tilt. My flash has the ability to tilt just a bit BELOW level (in addition to swiveling up). Maybe try pressing DOWN on the tilt and seeing if that frees anything up. Also, since you CAN swivel, try raising/lowering the tilt at EACH position of the swivel and see if it will move on any of them. (You've probably already tried that too, huh?) If you have a thin feeler gauge, see if you can work it all the way around the PRESS button. I'm still guessing that it is hung up on one side. My fear is that it has been in that depressed position long enough that the spring under the button has lost its sproing. But that really shouldn't matter because it is the button in the DEPRESSED position that frees up the tilt & swivel. Very confused as to what the problem is. It's red
I was discussing packing, camera gear etc. with my friend Nicole who will be driving in the SCCA runoffs next week. I joked that if she replaced her D90 with a Pentax body, then we could share lenses, with less to pack, and I'd be able to keep a second lens mounted when photographing her track sessions. In order to convince ourselves that this really was not a feasible idea, we looked up the price for K-3 at KEH (about $80 less than new on Amazon). However, they also had a red K-r for $168. She has a thing for red, it arrives tomorrow. I do still have my stormtrooper K-x, but the shutter button has been rather fussy for a while. Yes, I know a woman software engineer, who races cars and makes impulse purchases of camera gear, maybe unicorns also exist. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO (s) "New Haven" and "Last Train"
I like the pics--both are very evocative. Since Conrail snuffed it years ago, you must be referring to Connecticut Shore Line East as the operator. I've seen (and heard, and smelled) a few of their trains go by, and all three senses indicated that they were diesels. Why they should be running diesels on electrified lines is a mystery. Re: It's Sundown - Shanah Tovah!
Yes, quite sure. Judy's gluten free these days so sadly challah and babka are right out (two of my faves). We didn't feel like cooking so we did Indian take-out. Not exactly the traditional Rosh Hashana meal. LOL.
