Re: PESO - Jim Thorpe
Nice little album, Rick. Mauch Chunk was a dirty little mining town when my father was born there in 1915. My Matyola grandparents migrated there from Mucachevo (then in Weastern Sovakia, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now in western Ukraine), where the were subsistence farmers. My grandfather hated the mines, and got a job as a track walker for the railroad. This allowed the family to escape Mauch Chunk, and move to Manville, NJ, home of the world's biggest asbestos factory. From the frying pan . . . . In any event, here is an old snapshot of my grandparents as I remember them: https://www.photo.net/photo/15462434/Michael-and-Helen-Matyola Dan Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola On Fri, Jul 7, 2017 at 9:47 PM, Rick Womer wrote: > Jim Thorpe is a small burgh about an hour and a half from Philly. Thanks everyone for your input. Even though the K3ii doesn't have a built in flash from what all I have seen I am leaning toward it. Re: Under the (photo)bucket
You can't complain too much if a provider of a free service doesn't do a lot of hand holding, but there is a minimum level of support expected. If that minimum level of support isn't met I'd simply sever my relationship. I was very disappointed with dropbox, when they discontinued the features that I relied upon, and would have found a different provider who did, except that I was able to use the app workaround supplied by updog.co. I could could host some pretty complex client side gallery software, but the simple HTML pages I use are fine with me. True, creating a link to my web pages isn't as trivial as it used to be, but it works and managing my storage space is just as easy as it always was. At least their terms of service doesn't give them any rights to my work product, like most social media and dedicated photography sharing sites seem to. Re: PESO - Another moss macro
I appreciate the input, Jostein. The 150mm is my inclination, I admit, but the quality of rendering is very important to me so I'm also curious about the 120's. I have heard good things. A long focus throw is a concern, but livable with, I expect. The 90mm has a very long focus throw too, but it also has a limiter which I keep engaged. Thanks! Re: PESO - Another moss macro
Bruce the 150mm is a very nice portrait lens, but I suspect you know this ;) Very nicely priced used too. On 7 July 2017 at 08:39, Bruce Walker wrote: > Those colours! Re: PESO - Another moss macro
Thanks Bruce, I have the 120/4 in both A and FA incarnations. Very different constructions, the A has the recessed front element construction typical for that era, the FA is more reminiscent of the DA 100 macro. The focus helicoid has a long way to go, so AF feels rather slow. But otoh, I mostly use it for macro, so for portraits it may be a completely different thing. I also have the FA 150/2.8, which to my eye seems to have a more typical portrait lens construction. Since you already have the 90 mm macro I suppose you are well covered for closeups. I think if it was me I would go for the 150mm, but my experience with portrait photography is really to scant to make any good recommendations either way. Sorry about that. Re: Under the (photo)bucket
I had some hot-links to image that I had stored there, mostly older so I'm not overly perturbed but their transition was basically a ransom, I think that they would have kept more people in the system allowing free linkage to existing images but charging to add any, In any case I have removed all my image from the site and deleted my account.
