Re: UPS Stupidy
I think they delivere it if, they have a truck going close to the location so that it could work that delivery into their route. They do whatever will cost less, and they have completely computerized their delivery routes to maximize efficiency. I think the USPS charges other package delivery services 58¢ for last mile delivery so if they can work that delivery into an existing delivery route, they save a bit more than half a dollar. On 10/18/2017 11:57 AM, Igor PDML-StR wrote: Actually, that's not quite correct. Re: Adobe doesn't seem to want my money
There are some very capable RAW processors, other than Lightroom. I haven't bought a new Adobe product in quite some time and I feel pretty smug about that, as Adobe has developed all the highhandedness of MIcrosoft at it's peak and the arrogance of Apple selling iProducts, with features removed to satisfy their design aesthetic whether you like it or not, so you better like it. Smaller vendors sometimes fail to support older products because they simply haven't the resources, but I see little excuse for would be monopolists to abuse their position and simply design systems to milk the consumer, once they think their customers are locked into their system. I don't know of anyone who complained of having slightly outdated software if what they had did the job. They bought the upgrade when they needed it and if they didn't need the upgrade soldered on with what they had. I've heard stories of CC upgrades significantly changing controls. I don't know how true that is but I have had that happen with an upgrade to Windows 7 it changed the shutdown behavior without telling me. Which is a problem, I thought I was shutting the system down, but instead it put the machine into sleep mode. It's probably not a good idea to pull the power supply, and remove a hard drive at that time, but that's what I almost did. It's annoying enough to move between major revs of a software package and find features significantly changed when you expect such changes, DxO optics Pro 9 changed the rendering and export options almost completely from version 8 which took a lot of getting used to. I can only imagine how wonderful that would be to fire up Lightroom CC and find a similar thing happening after a minor update. Last week I sent an insured priorty mail parcel from ft. lauderdale to miami, FL. This was on a friday with expected delivery date of saturday. As of today, six days later, its still not delivered, and expected delivery date is "delayed"? ive never had such bad service from USPS before and their call in help line is not working properly so I cant reach a live agent for help. jco On Thu, 19 Oct 2017 12:04:08 -0400, Johnwrote: Well, FWIW, my experience is USPS is they still do allow their carriers the leeway to use some common sense ... at least here in Raleigh. I cannot fathom why UPS, FedEx and other delivery businesses would want to emulate the latest stupidities that strictly enforcing USPS rules have created. On the other hand it is disturbing that a signature required tracked package could be left on one's doorstep, as FedEx did, and be considered properly delivered, as happened when I ordered my K20D from B photo several years ago. (Although in this case, I believe, the end result is "as doctor prescribed": the package was delivered to their outlet, as you requested. So, from the UPS point of view, - they complied with your request. :-P ) I would argue that it is a feature of any large service system: it works acceptably well until it breaks; but when it breaks, all hell breaks loose, and nobody knows what to do. Speaking of large service "machines": I was greatly impressed with the design and setup of another large machine: Disneyland. They have a very complex traffic control/switching, and it is designed extremely well. I have handled the lens though I have not tried it on a body, and it appears to be in very good condition. I already have three telezooms in this range, so I do not absolutely *need* this lens. However, my current telezooms all have issues of one sort or another, which the Sigma might solve. So, my question is: What are the pro's and con's of both types of cutters, especially in application to the photo paper? Thank you, Igor My experience is that the rolling style cutters give a more precise cut, less slippage and fewer ragged edges. It's a lot easier to use when you misjudge the cut and have to cut it again to take a tiny sliver off. I only have a straight cutter & have never had to change the wheel. Re: UPS Stupidy
I've been enjoying the full customer failed-delivery journey experience with a couple of carriers over the last two weeks. With one of them today I logged a query on their system. In response I received three emails over the space of an hour to tell me they'd logged my case. Each of the emails gave a different case number. Just now, several hours later and with no intervening communication at all, I have received two further emails congratulating me because my case has been closed. Neither of the case numbers in these emails matched any of the earlier ones. I'm wondering if I should raise a new case for each of the 4 emails after the first one... Well, FWIW, my experience is USPS is they still do allow their carriers the leeway to use some common sense ... at least here in Raleigh. And I've noticed lately that for some smaller packages (books, T-shirts & small repair parts) UPS & FedEx are both handing off to USPS for the last mile; the benefit being if the package won't fit in my regular mailbox, the carrier *does* leave a form so I can pick it up at the post office. Re: guillotine or rolling cutter for paper?
On 18/10/17, Igor PDML-StR, discombobulated, unleashed: >I am considering buying a simple inexpensive one for myself. >I haven't used "rolling" cutters (I believe they are frequently called >trimmers?). I see that they could be a bit more versatile if there are >multiple types of edges (wave, straight, etc.), but then you'd need to >change the "knife head", probably very frequently (?). I have a Dahle A4 rotary trimmer. It's about 15 years old, never changed the blade. Only maintenance is to very occasionally grease the pole with a bit of extra virgin olive oil ;-) Half the technique with them is how you hold the timmer head and how much pressure you use and in what direction. Easy to master. Still works perfectly. -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__UK Shoot / Edit and || (O) |Live Broadcast News -- _ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
SIGMA 70-200mm f/2.8 EX APO - thoughts?
What do people think of this lens? It looks like I have the opportunity to buy one of these (used) for C$225. It is not the current model. I think it's a few generations old and I do not think it has the "DG" (digital grade) coatings. I cannot seem to find a review online for this model. I have handled the lens though I have not tried it on a body, and it appears to be in very good condition. I already have three telezooms in this range, so I do not absolutely *need* this lens. However, my current telezooms all have issues of one sort or another, which the Sigma might solve. To start I would use it on my K-3, but I am really looking to have a quality full frame telezoom for when I upgrade to a K-1 (or whatever full frame DSLR Pentax/Ricoh will be offering) in a year or two. Thanks in advance for all your words of wisdom...or otherwise! --- Steven Sharpe - The Office Gallery d...@eastlink.ca -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Adobe doesn't seem to want my money
https://fstoppers.com/apps/adobe-announces-lightroom-classic-cc-lightroom-cc-photoshop-cc-updates-and-more-200026 First, Lightroom 6 will be the final standalone version of Lightroom. There will be a Lightroom 6.3 update that will provide Nikon D850 support (which is here now for Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom CC, and Photoshop CC), but that's all that we can expect. There will be no further updates after this year to Lightroom 6. While Lightroom 6 will still be available for an unspecified amount of time, going forward, there will simply be two new subscription-only desktop versions: Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
