Re: OT: Getting the Drop on you!

I think zero would be a bit cool for me! We are in the middle of a very
wet spell thanks to Cyclone Eloise & a large frontal system which came
up the coast. All the East flowing rivers are in flood & most of the
Kruger Park is shut down. Most places around here had well over 100mm in
2 days & it isn't finished yet.

PESO x 2 : Queen iof the Night

2021-01-24 Thread Alan C
These images are of an invasive, climbing Cactus (Hylocereus Undatus)
known here as the "Queen of the Night" originating from Central America.
They only flower for few hours at night & in the early morning so this
was a lucky sighting. I rushed home from my jog to get my camera. The
pollinating agents are Bats. These plants became a problem in the Natal
coastal forests & a big effort was necessary to eradicate them.  Scroll
for the other.

Re: PESO - Aloe vera (flower)

2021-01-24 Thread Bulent Celasun
Dan, Toine and Alan,

Thank you all for visiting and commenting.

Alan, the plant itself is a rather neglected one in a pot waiting to
be trimmed and
transplanted into garden soil about a month or two later.
Also, the flowers are on a stem which is far taller than the plant itself.
It might be unfair for her to be photographed in such a shape. : )

The truth is I might have considered some trick to get a shot, if it
wasn't 10 pm here.

Re: OT: SSD

2021-01-24 Thread Paul Sorenson
If you're a Windows user both Crucial and Samsung have free  SSD
management software that gives a boost to your system's speed. When
enabled it sets aside unused RAM - similar to the DOS Ramdisk except is
automatic not manual (if you're old enough to remember DOS  😁).  Since
RAM writes faster than the SSD, data is written to RAM so the processor
can move on to other tasks, then transferred in the background to the
SSD.  The downside is, since RAM is volitile, if you lose power and
don't have a battery backup whatever hasn't been written to the SSD is lost.

Crucial calls theirs Storage Executive.  Samsung's is called Magician.
Both have a module that performs this function.

Very cool.

I’m a little bit surprised that nobody picked up on the fact that the picture
was Batman and Robin.

Re: OT: SSD

2021-01-24 Thread Henk Terhell
Before purchase I compared reviews  of Crucial and Samsung SSD's but it
looks there is no consensus which is better.
I decided to go for the slightly more expensive Samsung because their
dedicated cloning software is for true dummies...

problem with them.

This is not to say that other drives aren't good. Just my three
eurocents.

Larry, that is golden jelly fungus (Tremella mesenterica).
We have it over here too.
