Some time ago I was asked how to find out what weight a cycle would
take by
two of my friends, who were overweight. They were both tall and
suspected

they may have to lose weight first. As cycling is low impact exercise on
joints, I thought it made sense for them to cycle as soon as possible,
especially as you see improvement quickly. I lost 30Kg myself in 2010 by
adding cycling for an hour or to my day for six months and cutting out
snacks.

Oddly enough, it was really difficult to find that information,
although you
could find just about anything else out! One or two manufacturers do
hide
the details in the fine print of the specifications, and this is my
rough

guide from Summer 2011.

Most good quality metal frames (Reynolds 501 and above with the
exception of
753) will have a top end weight of 125Kg. Many metal framed mountain
bikes
are about the same, but don't expect to do anything other than normal
easy
cycling at the top limit. I didn't look at carbon, as the frames were
not

being included in suitable cycles for the task.

Many cargo bikes take 150Kg (and in fact my friends bought two of
these - I
think the Kona Ute?), but all the weights are all in, so for the
cargo bike

that's the rider, shopping and anything else you may be carrying.

This is just a FWIW posting, but there are lots of very overweight
folk in
society which decide to use cycling to lose weight (a good thing
should they
so choose to do lose weight that way), but are often sold unsuitable
cycles
for the job. I would have thought there was a market for stronger
cycles, or
at least the information about any weight limit should be up front in
big
print. A catastrophic frame failure on the go is never going to be a
good
thing. However, my 'research' as such is 4 years old and I hope the
industry

has moved on.

Some time ago I was asked how to find out what weight a cycle would take by
two of my friends, who were overweight. They were both tall and suspected
they may have to lose weight first. As cycling is low impact exercise on
joints, I thought it made sense for them to cycle as soon as possible,
especially as you see improvement quickly. I lost 30Kg myself in 2010 by
adding cycling for an hour or to my day for six months and cutting out

Oddly enough, it was really difficult to find that information, although you

Most good quality metal frames (Reynolds 501 and above with the exception of
753) will have a top end weight of 125Kg. Many metal framed mountain bikes
are about the same, but don't expect to do anything other than normal easy
cycling at the top limit. I didn't look at carbon, as the frames were not
being included in suitable cycles for the task.

Many cargo bikes take 150Kg (and in fact my friends bought two of these - I
think the Kona Ute?), but all the weights are all in, so for the cargo bike
that's the rider, shopping and anything else you may be carrying.

This is just a FWIW posting, but there are lots of very overweight folk in
society which decide to use cycling to lose weight (a good thing should they
so choose to do lose weight that way), but are often sold unsuitable cycles
for the job. I would have thought there was a market for stronger cycles, or
at least the information about any weight limit should be up front in big
print. A catastrophic frame failure on the go is never going to be a good
thing. However, my 'research' as such is 4 years old and I hope the industry
has moved on.

That's the benefit of cycling, which has allowed me to retain a small
chocolate ration in life!

I'd have thought a decent mountain bike would take more than that,
given the stresses involved in dropping off a mountain. Something with
29er wheels would also probably suif a tall person better than 26
 wheels.

Depends which flavour of mountain bike really. Decent hardtails with front
suspension only should take more, but the cross country m/b's with both
front and rear suspension of up to a 100mm travel are designed for speed
over rough terrain and not weight carrying. The all-terrain (up to 140mm
travel) may take a little more and all of the downhill bikes feel like they
will survive anything, but aren't great to pedal on the flat or uphill. My
own mountain bike had a recommendation of 125Kg hidden deep in the handbook
but as I bought that in 2011, times may have moved on - it's a Giant Anthem
29er - and also the best cross country mountain bike I've ever owned by a
considerable margin. I quite enjoy mountain biking for itself, but it was
bought to help me photo more and different areas of the forest in less time
than walking. Two hobbies in one, win/win!

I did notice a big difference between 26 29 inch wheels, but 26 inch
wheels are stronger. Now I understand that there are even more choices, with
wider 29er rims and 650b wheel sizes, but what these extra choices offer I
have no idea. I know I prefer 29er wheels.

Indeed. Not everybody would be able to afford this, but for anyone who
could I'd recommend having a made-to-measure frame built by an
 experienced framebuilder.

Yes i am.:-)
At 2.8 or even 3.2 i'll have to play around with a pre focus point, as
they come in from a bit of an angle to my right, thus the higher ap
values like 5.6 and 6.3 to give my more in focus area but a poor back
drop. Practice, we talking about practice here.

FWIW - I'm not aware of any f2.8 600mm prime lens, by any manufacturer. My
600mm f4.0 already weighs too much - would need a small truck to cart around

Just in case there was something I was missing, I searched. The fastest
600 prime I found was F/4.

Sigma makes a 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG zoom lens, but it doesn't appear to
be available in Pentax mount.

The fence really bugs me man. If the camera was a couple more feet away
