I think our *official* fireworks display was canceled this year due to predicted thunderstorms. Not a particular loss as far as I'm concerned because they moved the location to downtown Raleigh last year and you can't really see them very well through the buildings. When they used to do them out at the state fairground the sky was wide open there was plenty of room for people to watch them. The predicted bad weather didn't seem to have any effect on the unofficial displays. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: GESO fireworks
You have some nice images here that are both visually intriguing and somewhat unique in treatment. I wouldn't dismiss photographs of fireworks or flowers so quickly. No two are alike, and either subject challenges the photographer to provide a unique perspective. If we do dismiss them, we might as well toss in shots of people, animals and architecture as well. All common photographic subjects. Paul On Jul 18, 2012, at 2:14 AM, J.C. Yes, perhaps part of the secret is to stop down and reduce the sensitivity so much that the fireworks fully control the exposure of the sky, so as to speak. Not earth-shatteringly wonderful, but there are some pleasing colors in a few of them. http://charles.robinsontwins.org/photos/2010/aquatennial_fireworks/index.html I like them. As fireworks shots go, I think the two last are the best. No 6 is in a way more interesting, but the fireworks could have been centered a bit better, and maybe a bit too much of the trails are included... I also rather like the way the colours of the bridge are reflected in the water in some of the other images, though. - Toralf (Camera was attached to an Ultrapod-II and strapped to a railing.
