Costs about 14 euros on Amazon. As a liquid, I use 9 parts demineralised water (sold in supermarkets for ironing), one part isopropyl alcohol and one (!) drop of dishwasher liquid. For drying use ordinary kitchen paper towels as shown in the video. Works perfectly well here. There's a record shop just across the street and their super duper machine doesn't clean any better. I play them on my computer and use a program called Audacity to "rip" them while listening. The CDs then get stored where I won't mess them up handling them. Someday I might do the same for my old LPs. There's an audiophile shop here in town that has a record cleaner that will restore them to better than new condition, so I could play them one more time and get clean recordings. The cost is $5/disk, so I won't be doing it all at once. On 12/14/2021 8:40 PM, Rick Womer wrote: My collection is overwhelmingly classical, and consists of about 150 CDs and twice that many LPs. Re: OT: Dyspeptic Rant on Modern CD players
I thought Vinyl was making a comeback... I only have about 200 LP's , 20-30 78's, and 40 cd's mostly classical but some jazz, folk, blues.. whatever rock I had was an ex husband's and I sold most of it. CD player broke.. but I have a mid 20th century portable phonograph. RIck, if you find a CD player that gives you the info you want I could use one also... but not for music, for my travel notes from 2001, 2002 that I recorded on casettes then transfered to cd"s with a machine that I was given and no longer know how to use.. very fancy... but it is big and heavy so I'm not using it to play CD's now. ann On 12/14/2021 8:40 PM, Rick Womer wrote: My collection is overwhelmingly classical, and consists of about 150 CDs and twice that many LPs. OT: Dyspeptic Rant on Modern CD players
Around 35 years ago, I bought my first CD player, a Denon. It provided about 25 years of trouble-free service. About 10 years ago it died, and I replaced it with another Denon. Two things annoyed me: The buttons were labelled with dark grey symbols on a black background (impossible to see in dim light), and the display was rubbish. Where the old player had shown the number of tracks, the track being played, the time remaining on that track, and the time remaining on the whole disk, the new one just had the track number and the time remaining on that track. Denon #2 died last month after about 9 years, and I just bought a Yamaha. The symbols over the buttons are a bit more visible, but it has the same stingy information as the second Denon. C’mon. I can’t believe that a CD player that provided more information would be significantly more expensive to produce. Rant complete.
