Re: Pentax GPS accessory
yep that is what I have my eTrex Legend for - it upsets me somewhat though that the Oregon was announced just a few days after I bought mine and that once again just recently when I had to buy a smartphone the Garmin-Asus nüvifone A50 had just become unavailable from my cellular provider. free Garmin nav with lifetime nümaps for a device costing 35% less than the Defy would have been just too nice even with a 320x480 display as opposed to the Defy's ruggedized 854x480. then again I've thus far been too lazy to log with the eTrex and too conservative about (and wary of) exposing my where&whenabouts on the iNet so I've yet to find use for it for myself - I practically never have time to reshoot, I don't offer anything location based that will earn me a single cent, and quite frankly these days I don't take many pictures, my DAD (Duplo A Day) tilt/shift architecture project is still on ground, my photography is overwhelmingly listless and underwhelmingly uninspired. but hey maybe taking a bookworthy pic for the annual could be a source of appetite I'll try my bloody hardest. Ecke, this is exactly why I bought a 'real' gps (a Garmin GPsMap 60cx). It is not that much more expensive and it can be used a gps in car, trekking or cycling. In that case, it should be fairly straightforward to set up an Android (or iPhone) to record gps data periodically, and go from there. I tried to see if such a program already existed, but most of what I got was about using the internal camera. In a similar vein, I believe that the pc jack is not limited by shutter speed, as I've had several shots that didn't sync because the shutter speed was too high. In theory, one could buy a $10 bluetooth headset, wire the button to a pc sync cable so that every time you took a photo, the headset would send a ping to the android, then simply write an ISR that used that signal to look up gps location rather than dialing the phone. This seems like it would be a good application for blue tooth technology. That is, if only Pentax cameras were built with blue tooth capability.
