Re: help! I upgraded Firefox and now...

2012-01-22 Thread Darren Addy
Ann,
It would be helpful to know what version of Firefox you upgraded to.
There is a lot of info out there about java being disabled by Firefox
3.6 update.

I believe the solution is simply that you need a newer version of Java
installed.
You'll find the steps here:
http://java.com/en/download/help/firefox_online_install.xml

Hope this helps.

offer I just thought it best to keep quiet.

Aw, Didn't think that for a minute - got upset out of proportion as it
was on top of other worrisome stuff.

Glad you managed to fix it yourself. I've opted out of this continual
upgrade cycle that infects Firefox (and Thunderbird) lately, especially
as each upgrade seems to break some add-ons. I'm still using Firefox
4.0.1 and while it still works, I'm staying with it.

It had not occured to me at first that I could pretend 3.6.25 was new
and I would not have to uninstall 9.0 to reinstall 3.6.25

9.0 sucks in a bunch of ways. apparently it's upgrades have a lot to do
with being able to use it on hand-held devices of which i have none.

Unfortunately (because you are a photographer) 9.0 is very superior to
3.6 in that it recognizes version 4 ICC profiles (version 3.5 - 7
don't).

I _don't think_ I care about that - if it is only affecting my view of
things on the web - my eyes aren't good enough to notice.

It isn't just the mess it made of my leisure/social activities - the
whole design was irritating.

I'm happily back to the earlier version...

BTW version 4 of what? photoshop? lightroom? other?

I think plug-ins incompatible with the new version of Firefox are
disabled when the update is installed. My experience is new, updated,
compatible plug-ins become available within a few days of the Firefox
update, so you may get your program back soon.
