Re: Odd behavior - LR 3.4 (on Mac) and DA 35mm f/2.4 AL lens
I haven't used the "Update DNG ..." command in quite a while. The original implementation seemed a little buggy but that was way back in v1.x. My concern is that I have a lot of time invested in metadata annotations: I want to be sure that when I re-read the metadata, what's in the catalog is embedded and integrated with the refresh from the files. I know this method works ... I've just not tested the other one. :-) On Wednesday, April 27, 2011, Charles Robinson wrote: > On Apr 27, 2011, at 14:14, Bruce Walker wrote: > >> On 11-04-27 2:57 PM, Charles Robinson wrote: >>> On Apr 27, 2011, at 12:46, Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: The catalog's metadata needs to be updated. - select "All Photographs" in the Library module, Catalog panel - Set Grid view - use the filter bar, Metadata switch, set the first column to "Lens", and click on "Unknown" - Select all - use the "Metadata->Save metadata to file..." command to write out all keywords and other IPTC metadata to the file system for this set of files - use the "Metadata->Read metadata from file..." command to refresh all the metadata for this set of files >>> I did something like that, Godfrey - but there was an option on the >>> "Metadata" menu, when the affected files were selected, to simply "Update >>> DNG Preview and Metadata". >>> >>> Did I break anything by doing it that way? Re: Odd behavior - LR 3.4 (on Mac) and DA 35mm f/2.4 AL lens
The catalog's metadata needs to be updated. - select "All Photographs" in the Library module, Catalog panel - Set Grid view - use the filter bar, Metadata switch, set the first column to "Lens", and click on "Unknown" - Select all - use the "Metadata->Save metadata to file..." command to write out all keywords and other IPTC metadata to the file system for this set of files - use the "Metadata->Read metadata from file..." command to refresh all the metadata for this set of files Lightroom will re-read the original files' metadata and the metadata you output from the catalog this way, integrating and updating all original image files with the newly incorporated lens names. It will not refresh the metadata shown by virtual copies, however, so if you use virtual copies in your workflow you'll still have some "unknown" lens even for image files which it now knows about. Of course, if you're persistent, you can fix that too ... ;-) -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Sounds vaguely familiar to me. It was a while ago, but I think that shots with the DA*50-135 are tagged as "unknown" in the metadata if imported into LR before LR had an update that included that lens' information. stan On Apr 27, 2011, at 11:56 AM, Charles Robinson wrote: > While there are indeed correction profiles for this lens in LR... and LR > finds images taken with this lens and applies the corrections properly, LR > reports this lens (when, say, you filter by metadata) as "unknown". > > Obviously SOMETHING in LR knows that it's this particular lens. > > Is anyone else seeing this behavior? > > -Charles > > -- > Charles Robinson - charl...@visi.com > Minneapolis, MN > http://charles.robinsontwins.org > http://www.facebook.com/charles.robinson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
