I think you nailed my most troubling thoughts about buying an istD right now (and its just money and availability of lens) For film I mostly use the FA24 FA77 and FA50/1.4. They are fast and sharp (compared to zooms). I also have a Tamron 90 and an F300 and lots of zooms. The long end doesn't bother me (Tamron 90 and F300 could be fun). The DA14, when available, I guess will cost $800us +/- and can't be used with film. Is there and APS SLR? Smaller lighter and shoots BW film?? Wow Pentax there's an idea... The FA28 would be a good wide normal and not too pricey. The Camera Center here in Lafayette has the istD ($1500) and 16-45 ($500)in the showcase plus $180 tax ($1980 after rebate). I might be impulsive if the store price were in the $1700-1800 range. I would like to buy local. I'd rather have a good price on the istD with DA14 and an FA28 I guess. There now, I've got it all figured out. My definite favourite on the *istD is the 50/1.4 FA, which feels much like the 85 did on film, from the point of view of framing and shot selection, but is much smaller and lighter to carry around. The other lenses I have for the *istD are a Sigma 24-70/2.8, which isn't bad, but is heavy and complicated to work in comparison with the 50, and a Pentax 80-320 FA, which haven't yet taken a picture with in anger. I sold two PZ1ps before their value dropped too low; it would have been difficult to part with them for bargain basement prices. I think the prices of used film equipment are rapidly dropping, which is not too good for those wanting to get some money back out of their used equipment. The more desirable film gear should retain value for awhile, but as time goes on it there will be more competition from other sellers, and prices will go way down even for very good kit. -- John Mustarde www.photolin.com

The M7II is a great camera. I also have a 67II. The pros/cons of the two are obvious. My problem is I really don't like to part with my cameras. Lately I've had the most fun shooting an Auto 110 with a little zoom lens. The girls in the office think its cute. istD for color, Pz1p and M7II for BW. I need to add digital SLR to see what it does to my overall photo habits. I'm still not as settled as I was with my full frame lens line-up and that's after shooting over 4000 images. My 31mm was my defacto standard lens on my 35mm film bodies, I really like the AOV as it lends its self to a lot of the type of shooting I do. So I had high expectations for the FA*24/2 on my new *ist D, unfortunately my hopes were dashed. I've ended up back with the 31LTD on the *ist D which whilst not a bad thing isn't where I'm really comfortable. Since I sold my A24/2.8 I tend to just straight from the 31mm to the 20mm which is quite a leap in AOV. I've always used a lot of lenses. I generally carry 13 with my *ist D kit. Current heavy users include the K 50/1.4, the Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5, the A 400/5.6, the K 85/1.8, the K 24/3.5, FA 28-105 and the Sigma 17-35. Most of these were also among my favorites in 35mm film, although I didn't own any autofocus zooms until I bought the *ist D. I think the M 35/2 got a better workout in my film days as did the K 135/2.5. Paul Paul
