[Phono-L] Research: Amberolas 1A and 1B
George, I'm looking forward to reading your article. I have noticed that the serial number can appear in other locations too. I have found it stamped into the cabinet, under the right-hand grill behind the bedplate. In addition, I have found it written in chalk on the backs of the drawers. You can read it using a mirror-on-a-stick. It would be interesting to record those numbers as well. Some of my Amberola 1's are in storage, so I will forward you my information next week. mine is a bit sad and lonesome - it has non-matching numbers, and someone removed its shelf years ago, so it sits up high on spindly legs, waiting for the next big earthquake to topple it. but it sounds great and is very cool. Peter, I certainly have nothing against Amberola IIIs! It's just that I've been wanting to clear up some early 1909-1911 Amberola questions for a long time, and I'm not getting any younger... Are there questions surrounding the Amberola III? Best, George Paul

The only question I'm aware of for the Amberola III is why there is apparently less interest in them than the Amberola I. Are they a lot more rare? I don't consider either the Amberola III or the 1B to be common machines.? As to which is rarer, I wouldn't hazard a guess... Over the next week or so, I'll be moving the list to an updated server - so as I'm testing things, you may notice some weirdness (disappearing, reappearing posts, etc.). I'll try to keep such stuff to a minimum. [Phono-L] Loss To Phono Collector Community
We in the phono collecting circle in South Carolina/North Carolina/ Georgia have learned that Pat McFadden of South Georgia passed away on Tuesday. I met Pat at the North Carolina show a couple of years ago and he was truly a nice person with a passion for phonographs. He was very gracious and always willing to offer great advice. Also, does anyone know how I can contact Charlie Hummell? As always, thanks to all for this great thread. God bless! Brantley Williston, S.C.

Hi Brantley, Let me know if you got my reply off list. I really enjoyed knowing Pat and was looking forward to seeing him at the Orlando show this year. What a great person, I will really miss him.
