[Phono-L] best way to store wax cylinders?

2010-12-23 Thread Ron Cowen
I should know this but what are some of the best ways to store wax
cylinders, aside from good temperature control? Is it OK if they are in
their cylinder boxes? And if I am putting them all in some large storage
box, is it OK if it's plastic, and should the large storage box not have
a lid, because that might trap moisture? Are there some kind of archival
storage boxes that are preferable and what type are they and what might
be a source?
Thanks,
Ron

[Phono-L] New Amberola Graphic

2010-12-23 Thread Barry Kasindorf

Hi,
I subscribed to this a long time ago and have most of the issues Martin
printed. I am not sure if he will ever make anymore but I assume not.

I can scan them and make them available online if there is any interest.
It will take a while to locate them and I may need a few fills.

Re: [Phono-L] New Amberola Graphic (What happened to Martin)

2010-12-23 Thread bruce78rpm
What ever happened to Mr. Bryan? I remember getting a letter from him about 7
or 8 years ago, saying that he was going to get his act together, start up the
Graphic and promised to get it out on time. I sent him the money for the
subscription, but the check was never ever cashed and the Graphic was never
published again, and he just dissapeared from sight. Does anyone know what
became of him and his promise to start up the NAG again ? Why didn't it happen?
Why didn't he at least send out a notice to all of his loyal following,
explaining what happened and why it never took place. It was just very odd.
Very Very Odd.

Is it possible that a late Victor would have a speed control with the

but I have never seen one with the speed indicator. Or, is it a very well

2010-12-23 Thread Jay Horenstein
It's too bad there's no full view of the side on the machine, to see if a
crank hole has been filled. The crank now looks suspiciously too far to the
back of the machine. However, being a later machine (as can be seen by the
back bracket), it could be the company was dropping Victrola mechanisms in
V-IV cases to use them up. If that's the case, it could be a very rare
machine.

Strange. When I click on the link, I get an ebay message that says the item was

crank location. The screws on the crank escutcheon look new too. The Victor

Re: [Phono-L] Victor on Ebay

2010-12-23 Thread Scott and Denise Corbett
Living in the Los Angeles area, I have seen several Victor horned machines
that came from Mexico. This is consistent with the features of a late South
of the border machine. Including the aluminum ID tag, slip in elbow,
Victrola type motor, Victrola arm and #2 reproducer. I heard that after horn
machines declined in the US due to the 'new' Victrola line, Victor shipped
parts to Mexico where they were made for the Mexican market where the horn
machined were still popular.
It's impossible to verify this is 'correct' without seeing it in person, but
I agree with Kurt.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all HAPPY COLLECTING
