[Phono-L] Regal Phono

2011-09-19 Thread Jeff Walton
Greetings:

I picked this Regal Phonograph up at auction over the weekend. I usually
dabble in mostly columbia machines, but picked this one instead. Can anyone
tell me the value of the machine? I cant find much about the Regal Company on
the web other than they were produced between 1915 and 1923. I did find one
website that offered a lot of history:

http://www.capsnews.org/apn2006-1.htm

Does anyone know what this goes for these days.

Jeff,
This is a very interesting machine. Because it's an off-brand, they are not
worth as much like a Victor, columbia or Edison. I would say $200.00 tops for
it.

They likely aren't related, but there was a Canadian Symphonola. I would

Acc to 'The Trademarks of Recorded Sound,' there was a Symphonola Mfg Co in
Minnesota and they introduced their branded machine in 1918.

Symphonola was sold by the Larkin Co. of Buffalo, NY. Larkin was a very
interesting company -- with an office building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright
(now demolished). They started out selling soap, then embraced premium schemes,
and finally issued catalogs of cut-rate furniture and home accessories. In
Western and Central NY plenty of Larkin firniture shows up, and there is a
special kind of desk which in that vicinity is known as a Larkin desk.
