[Phono-L] gold plating question

2006-12-24 Thread Matt Brown
I have heard that running your solution through a charcoal filter before
plating (a fishtank filter with charcoal in it will work) will take away the
brightness. I'd be curious to know wether or not this really works. The
fellow at Caswell plating would know.
I've had tuba mouthpieces plated in gold with a satin finish on them - it's
been awhile, but I think Anderson Plating out of Elkhart, IN did the work -
turned out quite nice.

Subject: [Phono-L] gold plating question

Hello to all,
I am in the middle of restoring an oak Puritan and want to know about the
plating on the parts. They look gold plated but maybe in a satin finish.
Does anyone know where the parts can be replated in the correct gold finish?
Or of a home kit? I tried the Caswell plating kit but it leaves the higher
gloss finish. Most platers I have contacted only do the high gloss gold
plating.
Thanks,
Ken

[Phono-L] eBay Please remember that eBay will never ask youforyour private information

2006-12-24 Thread Matt Brown
Even when you are linked to a site from an email, you cannot always trust
the link. I received an email from (I thought) Earthlink, asking me to
update my account information. It all looked very convincing - even took me
to a site that ended in "earthlink.htm" - well, I began to fill out the
form, and just on a whim decided to contact Earthlink by phone instead -
turned out to be a fraud.
Unless you go directly to the site's homepage and log-in from there, I would
advise against giving out any important information over the web or through
email. When in doubt, pick up the phone.
