Hi,

I stumbled over the same bug and could verify the described behaviour:

* Setting locale to C.UTF-8 leads to an empty message window after
decrypting.

* Setting locale to e.g. de_DE.utf8 fixes the problem.

* Patrick's patch fixes the issue for me with C.UTF-8 as well.

For me, these Versions are broken:

 2:1.9.8.1-1 990
 2:1.9.8.1-1~deb9u1 500

This version is ok:

 2:1.9.7-2 500

Hi.

In FF54, the plugin does not really seem to work anymore.
The status bar is shown, but no content in it.

An update seems to be available, solving this:

I really wonder why Firefox (itself) is such a user-hostile crap,
that one needs plugins (which they break every once in a while)
to get back the most basic funcitonality (like showing the URL
of some link in the status bar)... gosh... Mozilla=evil

Anyway... would be nice if the addon could be updated, to make FF
a bit usable again :-)

Quite weirdly, I was prompted for pinentry when looking at this message
I had just sent in the Sent folder, despite the fact that it was not
encrypted. Other than that, the self-compiled version of Enigmail works
wonders. If it has no security implications, I suggest that for powerpc,
we fall back to that version (I am referring to
https://www.enigmail.net/download/source/enigmail-1.9.7.tar.gz, for the
record). Since DSA https://www.debian.org/security/2017/dsa-3921 is
about "restoring compatibility" I think that it misses its goal and
hence, it's not wanted on PPC. If there are other (security)
implications, what are they?

version of enigmail is debian-specific.  I also think your issue has
more to do with enigmail and thunderbird on jessie itself.  Your
situation i think has more to do with https://bugs.debian.org/870073
than with https://bugs.debian.org/869774.

installation.  the version of thunderbird available from

   fixes

 * ensure that you have "use-agent" in your ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf

 * ensure that gnome-keyring is not presenting a gpg-agent interface

   thunderbird and enigmail on debian jessie)

On 64-bit jessie, updating to the current officially supported versions of
thunderbird/iceweasel (version 1.52.2.1) and enigmail, the enigmail portion
(version 2.1.9.8.1.1) is unusable because it requires gnupg 2.0.7, whereas the
version in the jessie repository is 1.4.18. See screenshot at

The only solution appears to be to downgrade thunderbird/iceweasel and enigmail
to the prior working versions.
