[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC and Mac instructions

2006-06-28 Thread GeeZa

I was wondering if some kind soul can help me get AlienBBC working. I'm
on a G4 Powerbook with OSX 10.4.7. My SlimServer version is 6.3 - 8154
- (8J135). I *was* using 6.5b1 but installed 6.3 back over the top of
it because I found that early release a little buggy. What's worth
bearing in mind is that it took me 5 minutes to get AlienBBC working
under 6.5b1 but now I'm having problems. :-)

So I'm back to 6.3 and I have followed these installation steps:

i) Downloaded alienbbc-linux-v1.04_6.2-3. Copied mplayer.sh from Bin to
~/Library/SlimDevices/bin. Copied the contents of Plugins to
~/Library/SlimDevices/Plugins.

ii) Downloaded mplayer from the link on the AlienBBC website. I did
have another version installed under /usr/local/bin but I have
commented that out and instead installed the version linked as
suggested. The abbreviated contents of /usr/local/bin are:

-rwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 147696 Jan 27 2005 flac
-rwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 386 Jan 27 2004 gendiff

-rwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 6385952 May 21 2005
mplayer.notworking

iii) Downloaded and installed the iTunes-LAME 2.0.7 disk image but on
seeing the later comments in this thread, deleted or renamed any lame
files currently installed and instead installed LAME-3.9.61 from the
Thalictrum site. Contents of /usr/local/lib:

-rwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 331820 May 23 05:40
libmp3lame.0.0.0.dylib
lrwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 37 Jun 28 22:47
libmp3lame.0.dylib -> /usr/local/lib/libmp3lame.0.0.0.dylib
-rw-r--r--1 root wheel 381832 May 23 05:40 libmp3lame.a
lrwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 37 Jun 28 22:47
libmp3lame.dylib -> /usr/local/lib/libmp3lame.0.0.0.dylib
-rwxr-xr-x1 root wheel 816 May 23 05:40 libmp3lame.la

After those pieces were installed I tested mplayer at the command
line:

Powerbook:/usr/local/lib seantownsend$ /usr/local/bin/mplayer -playlist
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/radio2/paul_jones.rpm

MPlayer dev-CVS-060315-18:00-4.0.1 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
AltiVec found
CPU: PowerPC
STREAM_HTTP(1), URL:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/radio2/paul_jones.rpm

And after a few other messages and some caching I hear a BBC stream
loud and clear. My problem is that I get *nothing* out of either the
Squeezebox or from Softsqueeze. The AlienBBC option is showing up under
Internet Radio but when I try and play a stream (say Radio4 Live) I get
a short 'Connecting' message then nothing. I have re-cycled the server
several times but still no luck. Given that I can get a stream at the
command-line using mplayer, and that the plug-in itself shows up
correctly, what am I missing? Any help much appreciated, I've spent
hours on this tonight. :-) I'm worried that there is something
left-over from my 6.5b1 SlimServer install that is borking 6.2/3
Plugins. I will try debug mode and see what I find tomorrow

Phil,

Good to see you are still tweaking this plugin. Just thought I would
let you know that I am running the current trunk (6.5b1) w/ a modified
version of the plugin that chris provided in an earlier thread. Channels
tune without problem but the now playing title is the channel name not
artist-song-album as before. That info is in the output but isn't
making it to the display or web ui.

Let me know if you're interested in debug output.

Thanks again.

2006-06-28 Thread philf

Is there a chance that your SB3 is not active/connected when you get the
crash? There is a known error in my XM stuff that it will crash the
server if you access the *web* XM interface when there is no SB on the
network actually connected to the server.

Check this out and let me know if this might explain your problem...
I do intend to fix this in an soon to be upcoming release.

Is there a specific requirement regarding mplayer? I'm currently using

have AlienBBC running on SlimCD 1.71...

The Slimserver is on Windows Small Business Server 2003.

I just want to hit record somehow during a stream that I want to keep
and have it recorded to an MP3/AAC file. Then I want to put it on my

It presumably is the same problem. Would you mind testing these changed
files? I can't access internet radio from work, but I hope the problem's
fixed. Just uncompress in your Plugins folder. It will replace the two
plugins' Plugin.pm files.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienStream playlist and slimserver 6.3

On Linux Mplayer is need to decode WMA - however it is possible that
something is stopping mplayer being launched.

Check you have the following lines in your slimserver-convert.conf
file.

Code:

  #
  # WMA for mplayer pre7 or later
  wma wav * *
[mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3
$FILE$
  wma mp3 * *
[mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3
$FILE$ | [lame] --silent -r -x -q $QUALITY$ -b $BITRATE$ - -
  wma flc * *
[mplayer.sh] -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -cache 128 -af
volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file=/dev/fd/3
$FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --endian=little --channels=2 --sign=signed
--bps=16 --sample-rate=44100 --compression-level-0 -

2006-06-28 Thread danco

pasodoble, you don't say what OS you are using.

Depending on this, there are programs for the computer that record the
currently playing sound, and there will be scripts that could be used
to turn this program on and off.

And then there is the Execute Script plugin for the SB, which can make
the computer run these scripts.

Do you mean *absolutly* everything, or more specifically internet radio
streams?

If it's files on your own PC, then why not just transfer them onto your
DAP (Digital Audio Player - i.e. iPod etc)?

For internet radio streams there are several freeware apps out there
that will let you download the streams to hard drive. Can't remember
their names off hand, and i have them at home instead of here.

Depending on the type of stream (RealAudio, WMA, etc.) you might need
to convert them to something your player can cope with, but this should
be too hard to do.

Hope this helps :)

Don't bother with the SB2 - stick with the same config (i.e SoftSqueeze)
and focus on the problem. Talksport only works with WMA built in
disabled so working SoftSqueeze is the best way to go. Version of
Softsqueeze is irrelevant as long as it is 2.x.

I presume AlienBBC installation is OK and is working for BBC stations ?

Could be caused by changes to the library while SlimServer has the

2006-06-28 Thread pasodoble

Looks like I'm being as clear as mud on this thread, eh? All right let's
start from what I want to do.

I just want to record anything I'm listening to on the Squeezebox at
that moment with a couple of button presses on a remote. I don't care
if it's done from the Squeezebox or something external to it, via
analog or optical.

I want that recorded show to be portable in terms of format, i.e. MP3
or AAC so that I can stick it on an iPod. I will not be near the
computer so if the SB won't do it I guess I need another 'box'.

I need it to be simple and reliable... no 'bleeding edge' products with
firmware workarounds, etc. It should also be as silent as the SB in
operation.

All I'm looking for really if you want to break it down is say a
recording (either onboard or to a network) machine which is like a
Minidisc deck but records to MP3/AAC.

WMA Builtin option is only relevant to SB2/3 since they do decoding
built-in - SoftSqueeze requires a decoding app such as WMADEC or
Mplayer on the PC/NAS.

What OS are you using ?
Post a log with d_source when you try to play the Talksport using the

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienStream playlist and slimserver 6.3

2006-06-28 Thread knigma

I've not really had time to dig into this bug so this is less of a bug
report and more of a "this didn't work for me". I just tried moving
from slimserver 6.2.2 to 6.3 with AlienBBC 1.04.

While BBC streams played fine I was unable to play this playlist with
SoftSqueeze:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,TalkSport
mms://194.46.192.142/talkSPORT

I tried with and without built-in WMA enabled. Softsqueeze just
displayed "Unable to play mms://194."

Downgrading back to 6.2.2 made this work again. I enabled just about
every debug option but couldn't get any useful diagnostics.
