Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: MuiscIP + SlimServer != 'Browse folders'

2006-10-23 Thread Michael Herger

Well, I'm stumped. I've read this thread 3 times, the WIKI post on how
to integrate MIP (latest version download...V 1.7.1) with SS (I'm using
version 6.51), and read the page hosted by MIP. Nothing works as
advertised. Any input appreciated.

Have you tried running MIP from the command line?

- stop SlimServer
- start MusicMagicServer.exe from the MIP folder
- restart SlimServer
- verify the MIP plugin settings

I make sure that in the Services tab of Preferences in MIP
that API is checked and the service is started.

This often didn't work for me. Running the server manually did.

I have made sure (12 times) that the plug in for MusicMagic is checked
in SS, and I click the change button. I install MIP. I stop SS. I
open MIP. I make sure that in the Services tab of Preferences in MIP
that API is checked and the service is started. I start SS. In the
general server settings, I do NOT see the Use MusicMagic option at
the bottom of the screen. I then try all sorts of permutations of
starting, stopping, rescanning, clicking, praying...you know, all of
the supertitious things we do when the logical stuff does not work.
One clue, if indeed it is a clue: I do NOT have SlimServer listed in
the Send To tab of Preferences in MIP. I see this in the screen shot of
a previous poster on this thread. Should it be there? It is quite hard
to determine, as the support Forums are all referencing old versions of
MIP (or is it MMM...I'm lost in acronyms). Can anyone help. Seems
like SS doesn't know MIP is there, or MIP isn't addressing SS, or
something. I've left the port at the default on both the SS and MIP
 sides. Can anyone help?
I have found the following;
* Make sure MusicIP validates ALL songs before being connecting it to
SS
* Once MusicIP is ready, start SS (and allow SS to start properly...
might take some time... I went away 30 minutes)
* SS 6.5.1 is the nighly build, and they differ quite much... I tested
several and found that that the 2006-10-20 worked for me... the
previous ones did NOT work especially good (read crashes and similar).
Have not dares to touch anything now, as it works
Good luck!

Thanks arcticblue. I indeed do have MIP in validation mode. I have a
collection of over 15,000 tracks and it is moving at a snail's pace,
so I'll (perhaps) let it do its thing in a parallel (independent) way,
enjoy SS while MIP slowly counts down (I would estimate a week at
least) and then consider making another stab at hooking the two up.

Was your experience the same...the length of time for MIP validation
(what ever that is...not exactly well explained in the help file) - was
it incredibly slow?

Yes, it is. It took me almost a week for 7000 songs... The time taken
heavily depends on your hardware: the faster the CPU, the quicker you get
it done. If you estimate a week for 15000 songs you clearly have faster
hardware than my Via C3/1000 :-)

But it's worth the effort.

If you're still on 6.5.0 then I'd recommend updating to a 6.5.1 nightly.

but AlienBBC completely disappears from the SlimServer GUI (after a

I've looked through the plugin.pm's of other SlimServer plugins but get
no real help there (infact many don't even appear to have the
getDisplayName() call). I did wonder if it was the space that did it
but other plugins appear to announce themselves using spaces so I'm
stumped (I've now also tried it without a space and it still
disappears).

Any help appreciated.

getDisplayName must return a string token, not a string. By changing
it, you have now provided a nwe token for which there is no localised
string, thus you get blanks.

instead, look for the strings() function, and replace the
PLUGIN_ALIENBBC translations to suit.
