Finding this thread, I now realize that there is a downlaod to use
 Ipeng on your PC

As Calum already stated: iPeng 0.5.3 is a plugin for SC that will
provide a web interface for Mobile Safari.
It's older than the App, much slower and has a bit different
functionality.
The only thing it gives you when used with the iPeng App is a few
customized strings in the interface.

 1) Is it possible to play my MP-3's on the Touch using the headphone
 jack?

Not with the App, this currently is a pure remote control.
However, this is the one thing that the iPeng _plugin_ would probably
give you. It doesn't have support for streaming either, but it can play
back songs form your SC library. Only works for .mp3 and .aac files and
it's kind of a kludge. You have to disable your iPhone's screen saver
and you will not be able to manually skip to another track without
going back to the playlist and things like that - the QuickTime
interface in Safari is really limited.
You can read about how it works here:
http://penguinlovesmusic.de/2008/07/
And to install it with a recent (7.3.0) version of SC just use (in SC)
Settings-Advanced-Extension downloader.

When I tried that this evening I found that even though I was accessing
the song on the I-touch, it was playing on the SBC through it's small
 speaker

Yes. Technically the SBC has two different applications on it, one is
the control application and one is the player. They work independent of
each other so you can use your controller to control your Receiver while
you use iPeng to control the controller :-)

 2) I understand an update for the app is imminent - is this fore the
I-touch and if so,how do I get the update once it comes out?

It will be a free update.

I've got an adapter for the latest power supply that i don't need. You
can have it for free (or postage if it ends up being more than a couple

bump.

Sorry to bump but still not getting any joy with this. As far as i can
work out from the MusicIP forums there is no preference pane to enable
running in headless mode for Intel Macs and Music IP development seems
to have ceased - is there any workaround?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2009-03-27 Thread Veggen

I have tried the different alsa stream names getting the same type of
message:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2202:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM alsa_stream
arecord: main:590: audio open error: No such file or folder

running arecord in a terminal window seems to work, it reads a
continous stream of data.

Will try wavin:hw(1,0) when I get home tonight.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2009-03-27 Thread bpa

I think I made a mistake in the syntax. You should also try hw:1,0 first
- there are a few variations on Alsa names depending on the app.

Depending on your linux distro - the user id which runs Squeezecenter
may need to belong to group audio (or whatever names is on your
systems) in order to access audio hardware - otherwise silence.

Thanks Pippin

I have the Simplify app on the Touch which seens to work very well as
far as a solution for streaming, I was just curious if I-peng was
perhaps an all in one solution

No issue having both, I love having the Itouch as my Squeezebox remote
- I'm really look forward to the update to 2.0

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2009-03-27 Thread bpa

On many Linux system - groups are managed through the /etc/group file
which has a line per group. The name of the group is at the start and
the users in the group are at the end.

You can edit file directly (careful you don't corrupt it) or typically
use commands such as useradd, userdel and usermod

Before messing with audio group - make sure as root you identify the
correct Alsa device and can record from it and confirm by playing back
recording.

To record a 30 secs wav format into file testrec.wav from Alsa hw:1,0
- use the following
arecord -d 30 -D hw:1,0 -t wav -f cd testrec.wav

If you have Audacity - set some music playing and then using Audacity
click record - when the volume levels in the channels move sync to
music - you have found the right device. Use Preferences to change
record source to deifferent devices - use the Alsa devices and not OSS
or Pulse which may be offered.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Title Switcher for switching texts on player display

2009-03-27 Thread downtime

Erland, thanks for a great plugin. I'm having a bit of trouble though.

Using this string works great:
ALBUMARTIST=ALBUM:10,ARTIST:5

But when I change it to:
ALBUMARTIST=ALBUM:3,ARTIST:3

the old information persists. The ALBUM still displays for 10 seconds
and the ARTIST for 5. I've restarted SC and tried other strings such
as

ALBUMARTIST=ALBUM:10,ARTIST:5,TITLE:3

just to check and still get no change.

Any ideas? I'm running SC 7.2.1 under Ubuntu 8.10. Do I need 7.3.x? (I
downgraded from 7.3.x because of lack of support for the XMRadio
plugin.)

Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC-M-PLayer doesn't load (Windows XP)

2009-03-27 Thread Radio4Exile

Trying to load up new silent mini-PC with Alien BBC. However m-player
doesn't install correctly -I can see that the extension installer is
trying to download it. Further investigation in 'Settings- Advanced'
shows 'bad md5 checksum' . I have tried figuring out a manual download
per the Alien BBC website, but I find the websites I am directed to
either incompehensible or the links no longer in existence.

I don't think I am doing anything unusual so up to date help would be
very much appreciated. I do have a successful Alien BBC set-up working
on my power hungry noisy laptop -installed back in 2007, but updated
since.

Not a happy bunny at present.
