Thanks bpa. I'm running it again now. If the errors occur again I'll
check that the stream is still running as you describe. If it is I'll
leave it all day and see what happens.

Next time it happens I will capture the log and post it here.

2011-02-15 Thread cliver

Just had one bad CRC_32 error as before. Stream is still running
acording to stats.
I'm leaving it running for a few more hours to see if anything else
happens.

This would seem to indicate that these errors aren't the source of the
problem.
However, the timing of them seems to coincide with the length of time
that the stream runs before failing using sbs.
I also don't know how DVB-t should behave but I would imagine any
system designed for ota transmission should be designed to cope with
signal dropouts. This is the behaviour that VLC is demonstrating as it
seems quite happy to carry on.
Is it possible that the problem is with sbs not dealing effectivly with
the errors/drop outs and closing the playing stream down when it sees
these errors?

Thx again Eralnd for looking into this.
I have attached a small file with 2 dummy albums that represent my

I use the default skin for the SBS, the server running on a WHS.
Music is also stored on The WHS. I have tried the custom menus on this
cofiguration, it stiil won't sort the composers according to the
composersort field.
BTW perhaps it would be uselful to build a small test environment
similar to the one I've made and publish it on the forum so everyone
can test the plugin behaviour using a defined environment. I would be
glad to help to do this.
I have just seen that my zip file is to big for an attachment, I will
send it by mail.

Since this is a broadcast system - a proper DVB player has to continue
when it gets errors in a stream. However if the DVB player gets no
signal I would expect it to shutdown after a reasonable time. I expect
VLC's handling of DVB to be reasonable as it has been around for about
4-5 years and in use around the world.

You could actively test to see if DVB errors can interrupt VLC. Start
by playing a DVB station through speakers and then test by removing and
reinserting the aerial connection.

Initially - remove the connection and see how long before VLC stops or
takes some other action (e.g. crash, hang).

Then trying removing and replace aerial within a few seconds. Do this
repeatedly (say 3-5 times) as this will create errors that should
exercise the VLC and then leave cable in to see if VLC recovers and
plays streams.

IF VLC is OK with above tested then try to get/make a dodgy cable so
that by wiggling the cable - the breaks in signal will be fractions of
a secs. Again do lots of this and leave signal connected and then
repeat. See whether VLC play stations OK at the end.

You could compare the behaviour and handling of faults by VLC with a
proper DVB player which came with Hauppauge card or perhaps MCE.

This sort of testing can be very wearing as for all your efforts it can
seem that you are not making progress and you get frustrated. In which
case I would advise taking a break from testing for a few days and
perhaps make do with the http/MP3 solution in the interim.

BTW - I retested VLC 0.9.6 and logfile gets all the debug message but
only if there is a --extraintf logger which means it still does not
work when called from VLCPlay/SBS.

Just done some short term stress testing.
Removed cable for a few seconds and replaced.
Inserted a coupler which I used to attenuate signal to point of break
up.
Removed and inserted cable quickly several times.
Removed cable for 40 mins ands then replaced.
In every case it threw a load of pid errors (among others) but
re-syncronised within a couple of seconds and played perfectly.
I'm goping to disconect and leave it for several hours just to see what
happens but it looks like VLC is handling it fine.

Interestingly I have just tried the same tests while streaming using the
mp3 streaming solution and I broke it straight away.
Removed and replaced a couple of times in quick succession was ok but
when I removed it for about 30 seconds it didn't resync.
VLC was still streaming but sbs couldn't play it. Although it showed as
playing on the sb touch panel.
I tried stopping and restarting sbs but it won't restart for some
reason.
Even if I kill both sbs processes and restart it it comes up stopped.
I'l restart pc after posting this as this is my only way of restarting
sbs. Will have to research that problem further.

It seems to resync every time without problem. It certainly isn't as

I think there seems to be a problem with the way sbs is handling

In a worst case scenario, maybe you might be able to hang any potential

I think this is going to need armv5 which I can't get to compile at

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-02-15 Thread Triode

I've just posted a new version of the plugin using the newest version of
libspotify. At present this is only for intel machines, but I will will
be working to see what is possible for arm based servers.

The main features are:
- move to libspotify 0.0.7 (claimed to fix at least one crashing case
which we may have seen)
- new feature: lastfm based similar artists and recommended artist
lists
- fix auto architecture detect on osx 10.5 macs
- fixed 2 line display on sp devices for recent albums

The new lastfm features are an attempt to make use of lastfm data for
selecting similar artists to play on spotify. (I have found the
similar artist information is more similar!) They are disabled by
default so you need to select them in the settings page. They offer
two functions:
- replace the spotify defined similar artists with lastfm defined
similar artists for both artist lists and artst mixes
- create a recommended artist list and mix based on your lastfm
username

The new spotify library seems to use more memory than the previous one,
so I am not sure but it may cache more details in memory. I've tuned it
for holding as much information in memory so it may be faster than
before (don't know as previously the tuning parameters were not
available)

Let me know what you think...

I tried removing all helpers bar spotifydnoflac, and then renaming it

However, I can run spotifydnoflac by hand - with a config file stolen
from the old server I'm migrating from, and I can get the Spotify
What's New list working in the Squeezebox web app. (I can't get
anything audibly playing at the mo - I suspect because my config file
does not have all the latest settings in it.)

I posted a problem a few days ago, and now i saw this. Our logs are
similar thus we probably have the same problem. I also have the DS411+.
Did you resolve the issue? i was thinking of not using the built in
plugin, but installing SSODS. Seems like the plugin is not installing
correctly, and a more manuall install might fix it??

SSODS did however work like a charm! No problems what so ever! Big

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-15 Thread bpa

I'm not sure using http streaming is valid in the SBS/VLCPlay context.
The VLCPlay uses a file output module which will proceed unless there
is a disk/file error. The http mp3 streaming from VLC can be broken by
the http/mp3 player (e.g. SB3) - if packets do not arrive on time the
player can reset the connection. Whether the playing restarts will
depend on the player and not on the source VLC. If a player is playing
a MP3 radio station and the stream breaks, some players try to reconnect
a number of times and then stop. The same could be happening with VLC
streaming http if the DVB loses connection.

That's because now iPeng starts with using the menu text from it's own
translations. But then the server delivers it's own title and iPeng
starts to use that.
I don't really have a fix for that that would not break a lot of other

I've had this request before and although it is a nice idea I never
thought it was a job for SqueezeIR. My thinking was that you would
have to be holding your Controller and have it pointed at your amp at
the precise moment the the player went to sleep. However, if you have
a Controller and some other controlling device (eg iPeng, another
Controller) then you could sacrifice one Controller and leave it
perminently aimed at your amp and use the other to control the player.
I'll look into it...

charge vanishes.

In fact, even with no music playing and the phone asleep it gets warm

My phone is not jail broken.

It impossible that ipeng is using 100% CPU?

Thx again Erland for looking into this.

Music is also stored on The WHS. I have tried the custom menus on this
cofiguration, it stiil won't sort the composers according to the
 composersort field.

Your problem is caused by a bug in Custom Scan, currently it seems like
the sort tags has also to be added to the Tags to scan field to make
it work. So if you add COMPOSERSORT to the Tags to scan field it
should work correctly.

I'll correct it in the next Custom Scan release so this isn't
necessary.

BTW perhaps it would be uselful to build a small test environment

can test the plugin behaviour using a defined environment. I would be
glad to help to do this.

Any help that makes it possible to test Custom Scan and/or Custom
Browse is greatly appreciated. There is two parts in this:

1.
Have a set of music files with various tagging and file formats. It
could be really small files to save storage space as we don't need to
be able to play them, we only want to test the scanning and browsing.
Also, it obviously can't be audio data under copyright as that wouldn't
be possible to publish without violating the copyright.

2.
Have a script or something similar that can be executed after the
scanning to verify the contents of the database or even better the
contents of the browse menus in Custom Browse. I suspect it easier test
the database contents, so it might be a good idea to start with that.

Currently I have a set of music files which I've collected from various
users but I don't have any automatic testing so this results in that
sometimes things breaks as it just did with the sorting functionality.
